Yeah it should be a cracker, it must be a right pain the prices of everything when ye come over here
, i used to prefer Wimbledon on Final Night (maybe as i'm in SPK all the time) but not anymore, Irish Final night is different class compaired to it now. |
By:
Wimb is rubbish now side has changed and you cant see anything from anywhere and packed like sardines. Not been to SPK (for final night)) I think 11 years (but been to Dublin fair amount)so am really up for it this year. and euro has weakened a bit lately so better, my Pearse Hotel (Holliday inn) only €89 per night, would cost nearly three times that in central London, beer little bit more but not much, money really needed for backing only

Yeah they ruined the English Derby night when they closed the main stand.
Final night in Shelbourne was absolutely packed last year, i'd expect it much the same this year but it was a great night (bar Casanova in the 750y ). |

One last comment, re-the way trainers can travel to Hove's south coast, north east to Wimbledon and even Scotland to London but not to Dublin, then i'll let the subject drop, it being pointless. I remember phoning Ginger McGee the morning after his Chicita Banana had beaten Try Again Rose, i think it was, in a big one-off Open over there. He said he'd only just arrived back at his Ockenden kennels with no sleep and the bitch got no rest either. Ferry is a very slow crossing, time-consuming, not mentioning expensive. There was a man who's philosophy was "have dog, will travel" but he even found pond-hopping strenous, just that once, not once a week as it would be for the Irish Derby, if your dog was even lucky enough to get through a few rounds
By:
Woody Swayne made some fair points.
However Ginger didn't get any sleep, either did Seamus and Theresa after the Classic as they said they got back at 5am. The ferry takes 1hr 49mins from Holyhead to Dun Laoghaire (could take that to get through London on a Friday evening) and then a 20 minute drive to SPK. I said we are never going to agree, you will pick up for English trainers regardless (imo) and i will criticise (maybe moan a better word) about their lack of get up and go and willing to take the chance. |
By:
I should say if i'm lucky enough to get a dog i think has a decent chance at Wimbledon and whoever if training it doesn't want to travel the dog will then be sent straight over to a trainer over your way.

Razldazl Luke @ 66/1 could be a touch of value. He's still yet to win a race but they think a lot of him and he ran very well Saturday night and maybe the penny is starting to drop. He's had poor enough draws the last 3 times (5,4,5) but on Saturday night he looked like he could have been coming to win the race when forced to check at the 3rd costing him victory, he stayed on really well and the time was good. If he can progress from Saturdays good performance he could make the price look huge, he has the pace anyway.
Any opinion? |
By:
If you want to look at it another way on the night he was 1L (just under) slower than Camas and he lost that at the 3rd bend when checking imo. Camas has since being slashed from 66s to as short as 25s (33s biggest) and Razldazl Luke left unchanged at 66s. He clocked the same time as Ballymac Vic and was just under 3L quicker than Jayfkay. Granted the race he ran in was a hell of a lot easier than the others i have mentioned and he will be stepping up in class again for the Derby but he's going the right way.
I actually thought Camas was too big at 66s due to his running style and unlikelyness to find trouble too. Anyway i'm just thinking out loud, talking to myself 1st sign of madness ![]() |

on rioja, dont think it will win but an improving three year old at 55-1 couldnt be missed imho

Seriously thought PF, the first sign of madness is when little white hairs grow from the back of your hands

i'm alright for now then |
By:
Yeah, i'm very photogenic. Irish, going to give girlfriend a lift home now. If youre at Shelborune Sept 8th, come over and say hello, i'll be wearing an England baseball cap, near Paddy Power's pitch. We can officially bury the hatchet, preferably in your head!
. Only joking, will buy you a pint, in return for your inside info! ![]() |
By:
When did Paddy Power get a pitch in Shelbourne?
Those cowards Lads don't even lay down there. Chronicle tried their hand at it for a while after taking Slasher's pitch but soon binned that plan. Razldazl Luke certainly impressed on Saturday and with a clear could well have been around the 29.45 mark. |
By:
Yeah the way i'd hope it goes with Razldazl Luke is he gets a few handy heats early on and gains more experience, you wouldn't really want him thrown in a tough heat early as he would want to learn to come away better but the pace is there. Of the bigger prices (66s+) he looks the most interesting to me at the moment

has the panther moved to dolores kennels??

Sorry PF, they say the 2nd sign of madness if when you start looking for said little white hairs!

Will Raz Luke go for the derby? HAS HAD ONLY 4 RACES . I WAS VERY IMPRESSED WITH HIM ON SAT NIGHT. I was/nt going to have a bet until the 1st round was over ..but like P.F SAYS 66/1 IS GOOD VALUE. I had a look at his races so far and his track sence is not the best ..but he has pace and guts. but im not sure if he will go for the derby... maybe someone out there in greyhound land knows.

By:
read article an IGB today but cant find it now, but said all Razldazls and Kingo going for Derby, same article that said Fraser only has Jet going for derby
By:
I see no reason why he will not run, she was happy to throw him in the ECC Timber with only 1 run behind him and then happy to throw him in the Champipon Plate with only 3 runs behind him. I think all her dogs will run in the Derby, the only one i'd have a slight worry about is Rioga. She decided to skip the Derby last year with him and go for the Laurels, a brilliant move in my opinion and it wouldn't surprise me if she did the same this year as i think he will take the world of beating at Curraheen again this year.

I persume PP know something regarding Razldazl Will?? They pushed him out to 50s earlier on and have now removed him from their betting
By:
Non runner pf?
By:
Or a **** up over there razldazl dogs !
By:
It looks that way doesn't it but i have not heard anything, they pushed him out from around 25s to 50s double the biggest anywhere else this morning and now he is missing from their betting altogether. They suckered me into putting some more on (only small as got knocked back) but it looks rather ominous.
By:
They really are complete sc*mbags if they know he is a non runner and they are trying to lay bets.
If you lay on here these days with that knowledge, it will be voided. It will be interesting to see if it was just a trading error. |
By:
agree first line Bassanio. Interesting to see prices shortening for the Puma
By:
Just looked at the prices and yet again Lads are disgracing themselves.
Their prices on the front 8 are a joke. How can they now be so short Puma yet clear shortest Jet and Vic. Standout shortest on Tynwald and joint shortest Confident and Jayfkay. Is Sparta the only dog they have lengthened over the past week or so? |
By:
Laddies prices are nothin short of disgraceful, even worse when u consider they are the sponsors!
6/1 Vic - 8s available 8/1 Jet - 14s available 10/1 Puma - 20s available 14/1 JFK - 20s available 14/1 Rankin - 20s available 14/1 Bolt - 25s available 20s Rioga - 33s available ![]() ![]() |
By:
Theyre not known as Ladcrooks for nothing!
By:
They are using the Derby probably for a number of reasons;
- Account activation obviously. - Had a separate Irish advertising budget that they obviously wanted to spend to justify themselves - .................. They are certainly not in it to promote or assist greyhound racing in any shape of form. With the Irish operation coming back under the main banner going forward (I read something about this in the past 2 months), there must be a fair chance that the sponsorship will end this year (unless a multi-year deal has been agreed). If it does end, it will be great news as while sponsors are difficult to come by, you don't need these parasites milking the sport. |
By:
Bass, this is the final year of 3 year sponsorship deal. Prize money unch since last year, not sure about Year 1
By:
I'd say they are certain to end it after this year then. It is not as if they have shown any interest in greyhound racing otherwise and never price up on Saturday nights other than the very biggest events.
I would say their sponsorship was something similar to all the roadworks that you see taking place all over the country in December, where the local councils frantically try and use up their budget before the year end, so that it is not cut the following year. I would think the Irish operation was given an annual budget and this was picked as one place they could throw plenty of money. I would be very surprised if they retain the sponsorship. Maybe Betfair will take it over although it is hard to say that the 600 was a success, unless they created lots of accounts that did not filter through to the live Shelbourne markets. |
By:
Really looking forward to this year's Derby. If there's enough interest, I'll run a comp like last year from next Monday. Hopefully, Betfair will put up something in terms of prize money.
