I enjoy this thread every year and im sure this year will be no Exception...but i have to say looking at oddchecker the betting is little short of a joke...unless some special bet comes up ie'- P.f gave shelbourne aston 50/1 a few years ago] i will be waiting until the 1st rd is finished . As ever theres plenty of great dogs and the irish greyhound derby will be as good as ever but i will be holding back till the 2nd rd . GOODLUCK with your bets lads

Puma has smashing pace alright, absolutely stunning run last week and again tonight he got some aggro but tracked clever off the second bend and set sail for home.

Skywalker Puma goes straight for the Derby

By:
jfk 28/1 with pp looks the only value out there at the moment

I people say this most years, but there really is so many great dogs up for the Derby this year. I think Puma has a good chance but others say lacks early, but does not lack any more early than Panther and Cain and they are at head of the market, and Panther although consistent with good runs hasn't really done it sustained against good all age dogs. Who is to say Panther would not find as much trouble running from behind as Puma, Cain or others and I think Puma is probably better placed early on.
Panther at 5's in place is for true looney's, but even best priced at say 7's, and although there is some concern re JFK at SPK traps, he is still 2 derby semi finals and 1 derby quarter final, how on earth can he be 4 times the price of the Panther?Madness |

Razldazl Will ran rubbish last night, broke well and moved off from 3 which was expected but still just about in front on the bend, drifted wide which left Danmar Benny and Jimmy Boy in front of him and then Confident Rankin and Stay Thirsty went by him down the back, he ran the last 2 bends awful before plodding on one pace up the straight. I wonder does he have a problem the way he ran the bends last night? Anyway had the race been last December when he was rattling home in the National Puppy Stake you'd have been celebrating run up but i've no idea what to make of the dog now and Dolorus will need to turn him inside out in a few weeks if possible.

Was going to ask what's with will?
Rioga still think it only just stays thought it was a bit of a goal keeper myself ballymac vic cought my eye ! |

PF I couldnt believe Will's performance last night, she has to take him away now imho, there is something wrong but I still believe he has a big 'un in him, dont lose the faith mate !

I've got a bloody lump on him for the Derby from early in the year and don't know what to do to be honest. He is a great competition dog who seems to make finals for fun but last night didn't look right. He hasn't been running well anyway but the ground he was giving away on the bends (ran them awful i thought) and the lack of pace 2 to 3 (given a cold by Rankin and Thirsty) was seriously noticeable and he just plodded on up the straight. I just hope she can get him in some sort of form come the start of next month.

Bit surprised that Skywalker Puma not going for the Champion Stakes as well as the Derby PF - was at Kilkenny on Friday night and very impressive indeed however does lack some early....ref Panther the dog way too short.
Any word on Noirs Buichaill??? Would be good if Eden Star came over for the Derby - no doubt Ted and co would take the dog on as they do with nearly every English dog that has come over here down the years... Brgds Johnny |

The pre-racing trial session was a huge attraction at Shelbourne on Saturday with the return to action of Milldean Panther and with other star performers including Tyrur McGuigan and Razldazl Jayfkay in action.
The John O’Flynn Jnr trained Milldean Panther displayed no signs of his recent injury problems as he cruised round in a wonderful 28.27. The brilliant son of College Causeway seemed to come away racing and, with the exception of a speed wobble on the opening turn, galloped majestically throughout. Razldazl Jayfkay also trialled very well, stopping the clock in 28.28, while PJ Fahy was satisfied with former Derby champion Tyrur McGuigan who posted 28.62 and with both Tyrur Sugar Ray (28.56) and Tyrur Justin (28.72). The Rachel Wheeler trained Camas Crash was another to move well, posting 28.52 in his first look around Shelbourne Park. |

Yeah cashdone agree he is limited to the corner, owner says Matt says skip the Champion Stakes and he knows best.
I see they have decided to put Dragon Shield in their market now, at 20s ![]() |

Some horrendous prices in the AP market
|
|
By:
Ante post this year is a farce.
They do not introduce potentially very interesting dogs until they have run a few times around Shelbourne and then the price is pathetic when they do. Eden Star must be 100/1 to come over. 550 would really stretch him although he would give the crowd a great sight at the start and to the last bend at least. |

The prices do seem to be very skinny this year.Trying to look for value this year
Only got three in the book so farBallymac Vic 33/1 Cashen Mafuma 66/1 Boherna House 66/1 Pf,Agree on Saturday @ Spk I fancy Confident Rankin stongly,Tyrur Justin moves off so CR should have it all is own way. |

YA sat nights card at shelbourne looks great. lots of rain f/cast hope it wont effect the card to much.
![]() |
|
By:
There is new sand on the track since last Wed so hopefully that takes the rain muchnbetter like it used too and we don't have slow going
|
|
By:
is there any news on Piercestown Sand trials or racing? He's gone under the radar cos he's not been out and one of the more reliable/consistent chances, and better prices, for Derby I reckon. Only a few months back it was safer to stick your money on him than buy gold.
|
|
By:
No hasn't trialled in Shelbourne anyway, he may possibly have had a spin around Enniscorthy (unofficial) as they use there a lot but he hasn't been around Shelbourne since getting knocked out of the Easter Cup.
|
|
By:
ok cheers PF, would he be in your top 5 fancies?
|
|
By:
He is definately one of the dogs who could win the Derby especially on his Waterford Masters and Gold Cup form. Personally i think he will just fall short, think he will go deep (unlucky not to make the final last year) but may just come up short. He is a fair enough price though at 33s, bit surprised we have not seen him back yet but maybe he will be back for the Champion Stakes.
|
|
By:
yep agree with all that. He is a great comp dog, whereas some of the others are talking dogs, fast and impressive in individual races or two, but yet to do it, cant wait to get over to Dub...
