Maybe...

I know no-one wants a John Deere to break out, but the problem with these long tough courses is that in middling conditions like this watching guys grind out pars for hours on end is really, really boring. Hoping for full-blown carnage over the weekend but if that's not going to happen hope they move up the tees and get out the hose and let us see a few birdie runs.
I couldn't disagree more. Every week we see really boring birdie fests and putting competitions. This is a major ffs; and as such should present a real test of golf. I like to see players strategise, use a variety of clubs (not just the usual driver, wedge, putter that we see week in week out). Testing their skills, nerve and all round game is what it's all about. That said, I prefer slightly shorter courses with tough set ups as it gives all golfers a chance. However, I think this is a really good tournament and risk/reward very much to the fore. |

Typical Dusty...

Does the hard bit beautifully gets to scoring stretch and just switches off completely.
Gives 2,3 back with poor decisions and putting. 1 major. That's why... |

No wonder Brooks finds these majors so easy when the world, DJ tossing away shots like confetti.

Don't get me wrong, I'd like to see this even more brutal if possible, but courses like this sometimes find themselves in a middle ground of being too tough for birdie runs but not tough enough for pure carnage, and it just descends into a par slog, and that's what this has felt a bit like, BK aside. For me a course like Augusta actually provides a more comprehensive test even if the scoring is lower, because you have to defend on the tough holes and attack the scoring holes to make your score, whereas here much of the time unless you're 300 down the middle feels like it's just a grind for par a lot of the time.

Chez must have played well yesterday one of the shortest drivers on tour but still managed 2 under
By:
and Matt Fitzpatrick 6 under today!!
By:
fitz 6 under, another one of the greatest rounds ever?

By:
Well done guys, that's Matt's day ruined.

Berger to 1ft at the last, 4 under in the house. Very good round.

Not sure what all the fuss is about when Rich Beem can come home in 30.
By:
Won't hear the end of that.

Tiger Woods is inside the cut line.
Or he is until he starts playing. ![]() |
By:
thank god he has no chance of winning, not sure I could put up with the comms giving her a verbal BJ again constantly
By:
^ I think your cut bet is getting close to close out. kucher is -1.
Who is this? I think my game is coming around. I hit the ball well but missed a few putts. |
By:
Look out, here's vintage Jordan.
By:
I know he has fallen off a cliff but it would be a typically Jordan thing to do to get into contention when no one is talking about him. he only needs this for the grand slam, after all.
I did try and warn you all ![]() |
By:
Nothing will beat the Tiger story but Jordan completing the slam after 18 months of terrible golf, at a course you'd least expect him to re-find his game, would be pretty close. But we've still got his weekend issues to deal with.
By:
a lot depends on what Koepka shoots now. if he gets to 12 under or lower it takes a lot of people out of it- maybe the whole field.
By:
Jordan just said in his interview that on 9 the fans were saying everyone was leaving his putt short so he hit it harder and it went in. Don't know the ins and outs of the rules on taking advice from spectators but even if he didn't ask for the advice seems unwise to mention receiving and acting on advice in an interview.
By:
the fans don't seem to ever have played golf judging by the ones surrounding tiger
By:
Good organisation to get all the idiots together ,could kick off I fancy.
By:
You must be mistaken, the New York fans are the greatest in all of sports.
By:
At least they don't have to worry about brain damage when TIger's rattling the ball straight at them all day.
By:
Nervy start for Brooks.
By:
I've never chucked a major halfway through to spend the weekend in the pub, but there's a first time for everything.
By:
i have got doubles and treble
Woods Masters Phil US Open Scotty Open never even thought about PGA for Scotty |
By:
this is depressing
Fleetwood playing for second already, leaving every putt short hard to do anything though, when you're up against a merciless golfing terminator ![]() |
By:
think Koepka now 12 under would be acceptable
the way he's going 14 or 15 under looks likely ![]() |
By:
if he keeps it straight off the tee he will win double figures
By:
Few spots of rain and they're throwing darts. Not sure we're going to get weekend carnage to make things interesting.

HV3 4 on the bounce on the back side. Getting nowhere though.
