Danny Lee with the second best round of the year....
By:
does anyone think the commentators are overhyping what brilliant rounds Koepka and lee have shot? sure they are very good rounds but the way they are talking it's two of the best rounds in history.
think they are made to look great by how poor some of the top players have played. feels like emperor new clothes stuff to me. |
By:
I would guess that measured against the field average for his wave BK's round probably is one of the best of the year in mathematical terms, and it was all the more impressive in that it could only have been better. But like you say, a very good Thursday round isn't going to go down in history, unless it's a record beater. But having gushed over Brooks earlier they are now obliged to also gush over Danny.

it's the pga champs featuring the best players in the world. did they think the lead was going to be 3 under? sure, excellent, brilliant rounds but sky hype up so much it's laughable.
By:
Fair play to Lee, I didn't expect to see anyone get within a shot of Koepka.
By:
Usual lovefest with Fowler I see. Lewisham are you keeping the price artificially low?

Only player in field without bogey.

Sarah in the Tight Gilet best thing I've seen in last 2 hours...

I wouldn't get a bogey at Bethpage either

Good to see a few more names sneak under par, keep BK honest.

Going in now....for others. |

Phil bad memories that hole 17....

Oh yeah, we're far from done

Chaos on this course at weekend with touch of wind and baked greens.
Utter chaos. |
By:
The whole "Brooks doesn't get enough credit" / "Brooks is underrated" thing is getting silly. If just about everyone keeps saying he's underrated how can he actually be underrated?
By:
yes totally agree total bosman. one thing that strikes me with sky sports is that they seem to stick to the same line. one commentator will say "hard course blah blah blah, brooks/danny lee amazing round blah blah blah" and everyone else will say the same thing. it's probably correct but doesn't make for a very interesting broadcast. would like to see more controversial characters in the box. bbc had Harrington in for the masters and what he said in about half an hour was far more interesting than what the rest of the bbc team have said in years.
interesting stat they put up at the end, that quite a few players have shot 63 in the first round of a major and only two have gone on to win it. and all the ones who shot 63 were very good players. there I go, clutching at straws again. |

The problem with golf commentators is that they always run out of things to say. Football 45 minutes then 15 minutes commenting then 45 minutes. Other sports similar. Golf is a couple of shots, commenting, tv ads, commenting, couple of shots, commenting, get the picture. Golf commentators are so boring.

Looks like most of the rain is leaving the forecast for today so hopefully the course will dry out nicely for a proper tough weekend. Breezy on Sunday too.
By:
Hope Danny acquits himself well after a great round yesterday. Realistically something like +2 would probably be perfectly acceptable.
By:
Good start for one Danny anyway.
By:
spiffy going along nicely, 1 under through 2 of the trickier holes.
mcilory hopeless. |
By:
brooks four shot lead.
By:
think mcilroy is quite poor on driving accuracy stats and that has again come back to haunt him this week.
By:
not quite sure why they are not showing Spieth/Johnson group on featured groups?
By:
They are. It's on the red button.
By:
Time for Danny to start thinking about the cut. Not what I hoped but kind of what I expected.
By:
danny lee butchering it

don't have the red button. only sky go on the laptop

I see. Well Rham is all over the place for your info

By:
mcilroy with the putter looks completely unconvincing as well. was going to lump on him for the open in his home land but starting to wonder about that now.
By:
Nice bonus for Brooks, 1 shot lead to a 4 shot lead before he finishes breakfast.
By:
yeah I think a few people are struggling today. think it just strengthens the case for Koepka.
By:
This course is a grueler.
Need a collapse from Brooks for an over par winner. ![]() |
By:
I'm going to predict brooks will make a bogey today.
if he doesn't the others might as well pack up and go home. odds on the course will catch up with him at some point. even tiger at the 2000 pebble beach made bogeys. |
By:
I don't think anyone is expecting him to go through the tournament bogey free.
By:
DJ looking "ominous"
By:
I know no-one wants a John Deere to break out, but the problem with these long tough courses is that in middling conditions like this watching guys grind out pars for hours on end is really, really boring. Hoping for full-blown carnage over the weekend but if that's not going to happen hope they move up the tees and get out the hose and let us see a few birdie runs.
By:
At least DJ making a game of it while the others slowly eject. Rematch of the flight to Paris in prospect.
