Best bets for me this week Rickie Fowler 35/1 EW and Dustin Johnson 40/1 EW.(opted to use WH terms)
Longshots JB Holmes 500+ Ben Curtis 700+ Curtis a good links player that did rather well in this event in 2003. Top 10 in the Memorial one of the stronger events this season is good recent form. When Holmes won recently you could not fail to be impressed with the way he drove the ball with driver and iron off the tee. His low bullet drives will come in handy especially on Friday when the wind gets up. |

How high a premium is placed on scrambling around here? I was a bit young come the last open and don't remember it at all to be honest! Being the British Open I guess a short game around the green is going to be vital? I did see some article say that the greens are pretty flat though so guessing the greens might hold the balls pretty well?
I'm thinking of having just a small bet on Russell Henley but considering his short game around the green is pretty horrendous compared to the rest of his game, i don't want to back him if he's going to be chipping a lot as it's something he is very average at. |

Maybe help, I don't really have scrambling stats, but in 2006 when they played here the GIR - greens in regulation, meaning there putting so not scrambling was 50 out of 59 greens hit, which is quite high 84%, tiger hit 58 of 59
so my opinion is that its not overly needed, ALTHOUGH! if u do miss they are small greens here, so there's always a counter argument lol. |

Mind saying that, in 2012 when the women went there, it was a lot lower 60% ish I think, but I have chose to ignore this one for now.

I might just back Henley at the price he is I think he's worth a bet at 250/1 as he's one of those players who can go on a birdie fest when he's hot. Would be kicking myself if I never did and he was in the top 10.
Bradley Neil 25/1 with a few firms for top 20 finish seems overpriced to me. I will reveal the rest of my selections tomorrow though when i'm all done. |

Has the Racing Post got an Open Golf supplement today? And if anyone has it, is it worth reading? I'll walk to the shops if its worth it.

this I thought a bit strange--the open last year
Mackay said, he was polishing off a pizza with Rickie Fowler’s caddie, Joe Skovron, when his cellphone rang. It was Mickelson, who told Mackay to cancel his commercial flight home the next day because he was making room for him on his private jet. I thought bones always was on his private jet ![]() |

yeah ,worth it,just for the type of bets available Thanks. It was sold out in the local Tesco (the b******* killed of the local paper shop) so I got it at the nearest service station (only two left). I see Steve Palmer picks Hideki Matsuyama at 66/1. I backed Marsuyama at about 410 last year for a big green but although he finished 6th in horse racing terms "never nearer" so he was difficult to lay. I found the 2011 RP Open preview a few days ago and only Chubby Chandler, Darren Clarke's manager, gave him a mention. Fwiw I use this for local weather forecasts. http://www.windfinder.com/forecast/west_kirby_basin |

Fwiw I didn't "big green" on Matsuyama.
I was hoping to "big green". |

well i'd backed over 25 people for this, but then greened up for pennies, so book now is blank.
so many can theoretically win this, it's crazy, but even tho i am ITCHING to make some bets its the wrong play!! we all know the wind is king on links, so how can u bet b4 the day??? imo u cant, i will be up very early tomorrow and placing bets then. But i honestly beleive if the weather for thursday right (very calm) the are gunna rip this course apart!!!, i'm talking 8 under + even 10s not out of the question, friday there saying wind may get up, i hope so. also think especially the thursday, the longer hitters are gunna be top, all 4 par 5s reachable in two, those who have good eagle stats will do well. Actually i lie, i have backed one player who i beleive is the CRAZIEST PRICE EVER enter BOO WEEKLEY , His game is 100% set up for a PURE testing links course. accuracy/gir/ball striking, he loves it. i have literally got enuff money to retire if boo could do it lol...just happens that boo's recent form is highlighted by a 5th at the hp byron in may, reffered to as a links style course!!! good luck all. |

Someone was asking why Noh was not playing.Just read he has turned down the option of being 1st reserve ,Ben Crane flew over today to take his chance at getting in.Hope he gets in ,can't understand why a young player like Noh would not take a chance and fly over.

Must say though, the fact you know if a guy has made a putt or not by the odds contracting or lengthening does kill it a bit for me, i have tried to get in the habit of turning the machine off mid round Sunday but it stays off for about the first 3 holes then i fall into the hole of watching numbers move on a screen instead of watching the flippin sport

I've got one spot left up for grabs in my team. Rickie Fowler or Harris English. I wasn't going to back Fowler but 40/1 for 8 places is very tempting as he should be top 20 at least this week. Having said that, Harris English I think very highly of and think he is a future world number 1 in the making and has the all round game. Yes he is in a bit of a slump of form at the minute but if it all clicks then he has certainly proven he knows how to win and with his power and accuracy he could take advantage of the Par 5's. He's the kind of guy who is going to win at a stupidly big price soon and everyone is going to be kicking themselves saying 'Why did I not back him at that price?'
Hmmmmm....... |
|
By:
The rumours of "every caddie wants to be on Harris's bag" swayed me, especially at the prices.
By rumours i mean i probably read it somwhere and was half cut at the time ![]() |
|
By:
I've heard that rumour and all so you couldn't have been that cut. Stuff it, I will go with Harris at the prices. He showed glimpses on his opening round at the John Deere last week that he was getting back to his best. Hopefully a change of scenery will be enough for an upturn in fortune and he did show up well for a long way at the Travelers. Rickie is probs 1.01 to place now I'm not going to back him but while I have a lot of time for Rickie as a decent human being and consistent player. I just think he's missing that X factor on the course and killer instinct to go with his style and clothing and actually win. |
