I've backed eight so far, all over 400.

Never know whether to get in early on these big tourneys or not... so on this occasion gone in early hoping my picks don't dramatically drift... better prices available on my picks but gone where not restricted/closed...
Bubba Watson @40s, Paul Casey @ 50s, Francesco Molinari @ 80s, Robert Karlsson @ 125s, Rafael Cabrera-Bello @150s. Six places, quarter odds... Will throw some further darts nearer the off... |
|
By:
ive backed 28 players already, nobody over 400 though. probably daft cos the book is terrible, suppose i gotta hope a few of the top players drop out to make the book better. if they drop out its just void selection with no reduction isnt it? i should know, but i never usually bet this early.

non runner no bet
no rule 4 |
|

the main ones that stand out for me are mickleson 30, snedeker 60, kuchar 50 and bubba 50. i know i know wrong type of course for bubba, but 50/1??
dont fancy him, but hes one of those i think youve gotta have on your side at those odds. same with all those other 3. id rather have any of those in my bets than mcilroy or garcia who are much shorter. theyre pretty much the first 4 on my list for any major right now. almost inevitable to be in the mix. |
|
By:
elliotts palmers and chappers tips will shorten, forcing the others out
plus the non runners will be removed, at least 20 of them |
|
By:
no reason for bubba not to play well
take masters winners and look at their links records, most do ok hes only played 5 opens and after 2 missed cuts hes been fairly respectable |
|
By:
i see. i think lol. not quite sure how justin rose winning the scottish makes him 16.0 to win the open when he was 26.0 the other day. how the hell does that work??
![]() |
|
By:
cos he sprang to fame in the open and. is obviously playing well
who would you pick to beat him if you were given evens |
|
By:
Kevin Stadler 400.9
Shawn Stefani 543.1 Charley Hoffman 510 Erik Compton 702.9 Matt Every 447.3 Oliver Fisher 613 Matt Jones 571.2 Matthew Baldwin 416.9 |
|
By:
well everybody is different, if it was even money id take snedeker against rose even though most people wouldnt. sneds is nearly always in the running these days. rose has missed the cut 8 of his last 20 majors. snedeker has missed the cut only once in his last 9 majors. ok thats selective number picking, but the last two opens rose has missed the cut, whilst snedeker has finished t3 and t11. id rather rely on snedeker than rose.
rose has played the open 13 times and has 1 top 10 finish, snedeker has only played the open 5 times and has 1 top 10 finish and was tied 11th last year. in the last 4 years, snedeker has had 8 top 20 finishes in majors, rose has had 6. yet snedeker is 60.0, rose is 16.0. no stats back those prices up as being correct. |
|
By:
does anyone have a note of the 20/22 non runners?
Thanks in advance if you do |
|

the runners are listed on this thread

snedeker is 60.0, rose is 16.0. no stats back those prices up as being correct
One enters off back to back victories and is a major champion, while the other enters on the back of poor form and having battled injuries all season long. I'd say that information is relevant. |

Royal Liverpool
Royal Liverpool — or Hoylake, as it is usually known — is the second-oldest seaside links golf course in England, and was the first course in North-West England to host The Open. Built on the racecourse of the Liverpool Hunt Club, it retained a dual role as horse racing venue and golf course for the first few years of its life. “Blown upon by mighty winds, breeder of mighty champions,” is how Bernard Darwin described Royal Liverpool, and looking at the list of Hoylake Open winners it’s hard to disagree. Harold Hilton, Walter Hagen, Bobby Jones, Peter Thomson and Roberto De Vicenzo have all lifted the Claret Jug on the Wirral Links, and Tiger Woods earned his third Open title when the Championship returned to Hoylake in 2006 after a 39 year absence. In preparation for the 2014 Open Championship, Royal Liverpool has undergone a number of changes to strengthen the challenge for the world’s leading players. The course will measure 7,312 yards and play to a par of 72, 54 yards longer than in 2006. A number of bunkers have been removed, leaving 82 in total across the course. Five holes have new swales around the greens to punish errant shots with more varied hazards, while broken ground has been created in the rough on a number of holes to create tougher escape shots. Just as at the 2006 Open, the 2014 Open will start on the member's 17th hole 'Royal' and finish on the 16th hole 'Dun.' The par-4 first hole has been reshaped and rebunkered and the green has tricky run-off areas on either side. R&A Chief Executive Peter Dawson has called it “the hardest opening hole on the Open rota.” Royal Liverpool continues to be one of the greatest tests in golf and will present a stiff challenge to the world’s best players once again when The Open returns to the Merseyside links in July. |

Big fancy on Bubba here. Never really put it together in an Open, but with the shots in his arsenal there's no reason why he shouldn't have the weapons to get it round the course pretty low. High ball flight obv a concern, but hopefully the wind will not get up too strong.
Seems one of the few capable of dominating a tournament if his game clicks at the moment. 50's looks pretty reasonable. GL |
