Not really sure what the course and weather will have in store this week but with it being a major week,it would be wrong not to have a few bets.Gone with the following 4 players:
Bill Haas - Was in great form earlier in the season before losing his form around the time of The Players/Wells Fargo possibly due to the birth of his first child.Back in form with a good showing at Memorial,a tournament he has never traditionally played well in,which I think bodes well for a good showing here.80s each way with the bookies,i was happy to take that. Hunter Mahan - Was in a desperate run of form but his last 3 efforts have seen him gradually start to return to the form he's capable of.A generally solid player,i'm hoping this weeks test might just play to his strengths. Was a very fair price on here at 100s I thought. Billy Horschel - A model of consistency all season and I like the way he finished off last weeks event with 3 very good rounds.Reasonably long, hits fairway**** greens and can putt as well. That will have you contending most weeks but hopefully more so this week.Another who was very fairly priced on here at 100s. Scott Piercy - Never thought i'd see myself betting him in a US Open but a player who's really come on in the last year or so.Want to have one 'bomber' on my team due to the wet conditions and he fits the bill.Another who started the season well, fell away and now seems to be back in the groove again.Ranked 2nd for GIR at the Byron Nelson and 8th for GIR in his last outing at The Memorial.Has also won in the state of Pennsylvania for what it's worth, granted that it was a Web.com event back in 2008.Took the 200s e/w with Joe C. Best of luck if you're having a bet and here's hoping the weather doesn't spoil what could be a great event. |

with an hour and a half to go is it possible to tell if there will be any significant advantage for early or late starters?if not i was thinking of backing rose to beat westwood over 72 holes.rose is early starter and lee late

Difficult to say who will benefit from conditions du to possible weather delays.

This is one really nasty looking storm that will hit at 9am and last the entire day. Not much golf… http://instagram.com/p/aflWzjJg-v/

I can't be taking anybody short priced with these conditions forecast. Looks like late starters will get an advantage. If its called off at say 10 am those early starters will suffer.

![]() Very wise words!!! This is a LOTTERY!!!!!! Any professional golfer, who is in any form whatsoever who gets lucky with a break in the weather, and the roll of the ball, will be able to put up a good score here. To back the favourites here, where just an hour of blustery conditions can destroy a scorecard, is a very risky strategy in my opinion. |

ARDMORE, Pa. -- Old man par is often the winner at the U.S. Open, but this week at Merion Golf Club it could be Mother Nature.
With more than 6 inches of rain having already fallen in the area over the past six days and heavy rain and thunderstorms in Thursday’s forecast, players will be challenged by more than narrow fairways, thick rough and the unfamiliarity of a golf course that is hosting its first major championship in more than 30 years. Who will win this year’s national championship? Make that Mudder Nature. “I’m hoping a mud ball doesn’t decide the tournament,” said 2010 winner Graeme McDowell. He was hardly the only player to share that sentiment. But with lift, clean and place not in effect, “mud balls” is a phrase fans and players will be well familiar with by the end of the week. “We've got to deal with it even though we're not going to be happy about it,” said Steve Stricker, who also had his own theory of why they could be so prevalent this week. In short, today’s golf balls spin less and spin is what helps take mud off the ball once it’s hit. “Yeah, it could decide who the champion is here this week, unfortunately,” he added. While the U.S. Open is the most democratic of tournaments because anyone with a game good enough can play in it, the 113th edition will be more open than usual given the soft conditions and unpredictability of balls hit with mud on them. There are 156 players in the field at Merion and all of them might have a chance this week. “I think it makes the course a little bit easier,” Luke Donald said. “It doesn't play quite as tough. And I think as a top player you want the place to play as tough as it possibly can.” In other words, the better the player, the more likely he is to be rewarded by a firm, fast layout. But without lift, clean and place in play and a soaked and saturated golf course, the term “level playing field” takes on a whole new meaning in McDowell’s eyes. “I'm kind of split on the issue of ball in hand, lift, clean and place. I think there's a need for it at times,” he said. “I think mud balls are a problem. I think they're unfair. “It is an element of chance as to how your ball pitches in the fairway, does it pitch in the upslope, does it pitch in the downslope, are you a low ball hitter or a high ball hitter, how much mud is your ball going it to pick up? If it's a long shot it literally can cost you shots. So it's unfair.” To borrow from a phrase often used by Woods, though, it is what it is. |

Lottery theory works both ways gents. If, let's say Tiger got the breaks with the weather, then the 7s is a steal. Changes nothing.

Would you rather be an early starter and played 5-7 holes, or a late starter and not played any?
Im starting to think you want a very late tee time as you probably wont have to play today and can take advantage of easier conditions tomorrow. |
|
By:
rough will get worse, you may have wished to get through the tougher holes today. unless you are +5
|
|
By:
Just placed a small bet on Tiger @ 6.2. The reason is simplistic in itself. Watched him hole putt after putt on the practice green. How about that for homework. lol.
|
|
By:
@theft....looks like those late starters are going to get 4 hours of it.

Luke , 52 on the purple one . Traded out at 18 . Now just watching .

Guys, from what I have been observing of Tiger so far, his body language indicates that his mind is not on the game as it should be. Maybe a night,s sleep will change that. But Phil will sleep best without a doubt. But me, I expect Phil to do the unusual again tomorrow, so would be inclined to lay him at current odds, especially if you have him at sp.

By:
Backing Mickleson @ 6.6 or Rory at 13.5. as current odds are. The value to me is clear.
