Full-time Betfair Trader Betfair Pro Trader Financial Services industry November 2008 – Present (2 years 9 months) I work from home trading on Betfair. Not because of not wanting to get a normal job, but because I feel there is big money to be made. Especially with the edge that I have. Starting to worry about John he is beginning to look borderline delusional.

I'm hesitant to keep updating this in truth because it does not feel right, especially in the difficult times in which we live in. Win or lose it seems a bit tacky and might come across as boastful
I think this cements it - the guy is a full blown loon. |

John still a believer despite evidence to the contrary.
Sunday, 17 July 2011 3 Month Update Not good viewing, but was caused by problems in April, May and June due to a combination of issues outside of Betfair and a small bank-size. I won't go into great detail about what happened because you can read back and basically see, but I am expecting things to turn round for the better in the coming months now my situation has changed. he had 9 good months last year but a couple of bad years before that and 7 bad months since, yet he still doesnt realise it was a lucky run and thinks that 9 month time was the norm.
![]() flat out deluded, you can tell that by how he keeps posting stuff then deleting it to try and make it look better. |

Amazes me that he still blogs. Doesn't add up, financially, domestically or mentally. If someone has no savings, assets or means of income, and they're losing the money he's losing over a sustained period of time, then they must be reliant upon a third party or parties to keep them 'afloat'. In his case that would be his parents, who in turn would have long got to the stage where they would have forced him to stop betting and concentrate on sorting his life out. And, faced with a complete lack of funds and parents forcing you to confront the reality of your situation, you wouldn't still be posting such delusional drivel...
I don't believe a word the guy writes any longer - either he's made a fortune and is just 'playing' with people, or he doesn't bet at all but hasn't got much of a life so has invented this alter-ego to get attention, or he's from a very rich background/family and it doesn't matter whether he wins or loses, because he'll inherit millions. All in all a pathetic character... |
|
By:
After all he said about Snooker Betting being a goldmine he appears to have lost heavier on that (nearly 1k ) than on anything else in recent months .
His 'strategy' as he said himself, was just to lump on players who were a couple of pots away from frame ball @1.08 or so and look to lay off @1.02. The countless frames Trump lost from strong positions in the final must have left Odwyer seething. |
|
By:
Despite my scepticism, his blog is (unintentionally or intentionally) damn funny/absurd, e.g. how his latest 3 month profit/loss figures are affected by issues outside of Betfair - is that another way of saying "the team/horse/player I backed lost/laid won" ?!.
And where do these muppets who post comments on his blog (like "keep fighting the fight" come from ? - we know he doesn't like negative/critical posts on his blog, wouldn't surprise me if he posts the positive comments himself...conversations with imaginary friends etc. |

If he is genuine, why his parents don't stop him ?. He's told us he lives with them at home, so it's not like he can hide the reality of his situation from them. They might not want to sling him out on the street, but they could easily stop him, if not by taking the computer/phone off him then by actually closing any betting accounts he has. That's why not of it makes sense.
|
|
By:
The fact that his family were apparently accepting holidays and so on from the proceeds of his betting while he was doing well suggest that maybe they believe he is a genuine pro punter just having a few temporary funding issues
|
|
By:
Silly k unt could've saved up a grand easy with a job over the last 3 months...
|
|
By:
"Temporary funding issues" - the guy has probably never gone outside in the last few months because he's got no money to do so !. Can you really imagine any responsible parents idly standing by as their 30+ son is locked away in his room/in front of a computer 24/7, with no job and seemingly no current life and no future prospects ?!. They are almost as culpable as him...if it's all genuine of course, which I very much doubt.
|
|
By:
He has Aspergers or something like that so his parents probably wrap him up in cotton wool and let him please himself.
There's no way this is a wind up, being going on for years. He is simply an addict. Betfair should have kept his last thread open rather than closing it as a warning to others about the downside of sites like this |

He is back again with another update, this time, for a change, blabbing on about bank size and his good run last year.

I've never really had the betting bank-size I used when I was making the kind of numbers you see below (from April 2010), which is my fault as I have been asking the same questions for too long now, when getting a job for a few months would have given me a bank size of 1-2k+ to get going again

He's betting on Handball and Volleyball now

Another has been waiting for someone to step forward with a couple of grand based on what you can see in the earlier entries of this blog, but there were no takers and in the process I've gone into big debt. Which I only blame myself for.
Can't believe he failed to get investment.... |
|
By:
I cant believe his little bad run has gone on for 7 months now this year. I thought he would be sorted right away, what with his professional mindset and clear edge.

* overexposing company funds and blowing your budget on a weekly basis then going to bosses for advance on salary promising that's all that's needed to recoup monies lost.
Yes he ticks all the boxes. |
|
By:
He'd blow the account in a week and then tell his manager he wasn't given access to enough company funds to make it work.

This thread is reminiscent of the playground bullying scenario where everyone takes the piss out of the dirty kid or slightly weird kid. The whole group queueing up to pick on the one individual. I find it a bit distasteful really. All these theories about his parents' relationship with him too. None of you know jack about his parents. He's a bad gambler who thinks he's better at it than he is and likes to blog. So what, does it really warrant all this criticism, piss taking, crule jibes and amateur shrink analysis?

Maybe he has inherited his looniness from his parents ?
Maybe it's just one big happy loony family ? |

dizzydavid did you ever come across odwyer when he posted regularly on the football forum? if so, you will understand why he gets so much stick.
|
|
By:
It seems a pity, judging from the number of avid readers that his blog seems to have ( of which I am not one), that he cannot find a way to commercialise it into a tidy little earner.
He does seem to have a knack for " hooking" readers. |
|
By:
WTA I vaguely remember him on the football forum but my point is, if he deserved lots of stick for what he posted on there, fine, give him stick there and then. But this is different, if he was contributing to this thread I'd have no problem with people responding to his posts. He's not here though, it's just people kicking him in his absence. It's a feeding frenzy on someone who's not even saying anything, he's not even here. A kind of group bullying where the victim has long since gone away to sit in the corner of the playground to try to talk to other people, ie his blog readers.
|
|
By:
dizzydavid1,
It's nonsense to suggest we're kicking him in his absence, after all seemingly he's still got a Betfair account so could post on here if he wanted to. Conversely, try posting a comment on his blog that gives him well meant advice about finding an alternative source of income etc. and you'll find that he never allows it to be posted - instead his blog is full of supportive comments from people who are almost egging him along the road to destruction...people who I wouldn't be surprised are actually imaginary posters created by O'Dywer. The fact is quite simple, his blog is something he uses to satisfy his delusions of long-term betting success, through his control of it he ensures the desperate reality of his situation doesn't have to hit home. Simple as that. |
|
By:
if he was contributing to this thread I'd have no problem with people responding to his posts.
He started the original version of this thread a few months ago and we all kicked him there. Then he got banned again. |
|
By:
I think that maybe Ivana is secretly in love with him in fact.
The kicking is just a subterfuge. |
|
By:
I keep asking him to do his updates from the last date shown on the previous update to avoid "adding" previous wins already posted to make his situation look better, check his last few updates and they are all completely different dates, no doubt he tests a few dates to see which one makes it look the best and then posts that one.
We all know that he randomly makes posts and then deletes them, adds comments then deletes them and its true about the comments, very rarely do i even get a supportive comment posted, it wouldn't surprise me at all to find out John is doing them himself to fuel his delusions. |
|
By:
It's hardly bullying, he isn't even here.
The information regarding his parents and benefits he provided himself in the last thread. He has been given a shed load of advice and keeps on regardless so a few comments in a thread which he isn't even part of is acceptable. |
|

When i was at school, there was a fat kid whose life we made a living hell. One time he came back after the summer hols and he had lost all of the weight. Feeling bad with myself because I could see he had literally nearly starved himself to death, I apologised for my part in the bullying. He told me not to apologise, cos if it wasnt for the bullying he would never have attempted to try to lose the weight.
For every story we hear about someone topping themselves, theres plenty of people where bullying was instrumental in making a success of their lives. |

Hmm, falling in love with someone who seemingly spends 24/7 betting, hasn't got any money, lives with his parents and is deluded into believing the only way he can make something of his life is through betting - what a catch
Oh, and he's male too, so no good to me ![]() |
