His obsession with bank size is baffling.

Yes it is. I have commented more than once on his blog that if he has an edge, he can start with any size bank. The key though is that he doesn't have an edge and bank size has nothing to do with his troubles.

He needs to realise that the way he was making money previously no longer exists.  It sounds as though the snipers have taken over and he'll need to re-adjust his style or continue losing.

Marky, I don't think much has changed on the markets John discloses he trades on.  John uses his wits and over stakes.  I suspect that his system is good if only he could bring sense to it, stop over staking and be willing to take the no bet option more often.

But John is John and despite his profits and losses he remains deaf to advice and continues to miss the obvious.

Alex, the snipers have gone up a gear for sure this year.

In Darts and Cricket I've noticed a big difference.  For example, in the IPL they are 5-6 seconds ahead.

Why is he obsessed with having a large bank?  If he can’t make money with a small bank, he’s not going to be able to make money with a large bank.  I think the best thing for him would be that he keep his bank small, or, better yet, listen to some advice and stop gambling altogether.

rod: why does betting on lots of sports automatically mean no edge?  In this case, obviously he doesn’t, but I don’t think it’s true in general.

ok legacy, bye you strange boy. please leave me alone now.

eggman, there is no way you can bet on the amount of sports that he does and have an edge in every sport. There just isnt the time of day to do the research needed. He is just lumping on short odds and had a good run last year. That is shown now by lots of little wins then a big loss.

He bets on chinese div 2 football ffs, how can he even know the players? let alone alone if its the right price to bet at?

If you are betting to survive, you defo need a big bank.

Trying to make £250 a week off a £300-400 bank is pretty hard. doing it off a £3000-4000  bank is much easier.

Agree that you can turn £300 into a big bank in the space of a few months or even weeks if you are good enough though but I certainly see where OD is coming from.

If i watched a cricket match with a £300 bank i reckon I could make a tenner on the game easy enough. could i survive on that tenner? er.. no.  If i did it with a £3k bank then a profit of £100 a game is plenty to live off with several games per week.

Lix, whilst I don't disagree with your post remember that O'Dwyer had a big bank before, and lost it all.

He is completely living on past glories, which didn't last that long.  Worst thing that luck (and that's all it was) could have done for O'Dwyer was to shine on me for a relatively short period, because he's one of those delusional people who can't see the bigger picture and in response to any criticism all he does is harp on and on about his successes last year rather than facing up to the present.

Virtually everyone on here will have gone through periods when they generated decent profit for a period of time, the amounts and the length of the period may vary but we'll all been there.  Very few of us however will sustain solid profit in the long term.  Anyone only needs to glance at O'Dywer's screenshots to know he has no kind of edge or system - he bets on anything at all times of the day and night.  Thus, aside from the financial implications, it's reasonable to conclude that he doesn't have much of a life away from betting.

I hope he loses everything.  Not in a malicious way, but because clearly that's the only way he's ever going to learn.  Saying that I don't know though when someone like O'Dywer actually faces up to that reality (the one he's blind to but we can all see).

You can picture him sleeping in a shop doorway telling anyone who'll listen that one time he made thousands on Betfair and he could still be a pro punter if only he had a thousand pounds.  The fact that by that time his family will probably have disowned him, he'll have no friends, no girl, no future prospects, basically nothing to show for 30 odd years of his life, will be totally ignored of course.

thing is, lix, he's not blaming his small bank for his inability to make a living. he's saying it's what's stopping him making a profit.

and that just doesn't add up.

Another 7 day update freshly posted on his blog I see - a £32 loss.  As yet none of his usual "oh if only I had a bigger bank" or "last year I won thousands so I know I can turn it around".  Wonder who the £32 belonged to originally, the dole office or his parents ?!.

Whole situation is such a car crash I still wonder if it's all fake and in reality he's doing really well for himself, either through betting or other sources, and one day he's suddenly going to post a new thread showing several million in his bank account ?!.

It could mean that he is growing up.  It could mean that reality has dawned.  A solid £6.35 from a small bank shows more potential for the future than +£600 and then -£594, imo.

Is this £6.35 the net result from crazy punts or is it the sign of real work?

Yeah and the rest! Have a proper look! Thats just the markets he has clicked on. Don't forget he has edges in basketball, cricket, darts, horse racing, ice hockey, rugby league, rugby union, soccer, tennis and australian rules too. Laugh

What a tool! This is a decent comedy show now, following his blog.

Between his recent weekly updates (a £31 loss and a £6 win) there's a typically arrogant/boastful post about his overall profits on Betfair.  Shows how he still can't 'let go' of his past successes, and how he's still in denial.

Doesn't add up though, if you've no other source of income, no money to fall back on and you lose £25 in two weeks, you're in trouble...surely Mr. & Mrs. O'Dywer Senior must have something to say ?!

but all he needs is a 1k bank, then the thousands will follow...it's funny, as the other month all he needed was a £500 bank and the thousands will follow but he had that and lost it. Laugh

Thanks. Good advice, but all I need is to get to 1k bank size and it will kick on from there. It's getting there that's the problem.

Ummm why not get a job John, problem solved.

I recall him posting before about how he has no qualifications etc, and seemingly he's been out of work since deciding to 'go pro' about 4 years ago.

It's ironic how John often says "good advice" but only when it's about betting, never when it's about taking a step back and evaluating where his life is going.  It's always intrigued me what kind of a life he leads, he's never mentioned about taking friends anywhere even when he was doing well last year, with all his posts focusing upon himself, sport and betting.  One can imagine John spends most of his time sat in a room on his own betting at all hours of the day and night.

And all for what ? - a loss of £25 over 2 recent weeks, and even over all the time he's been on Betfair (4 years) he's made a profit of £15k, i.e. peanuts as he doesn't have another source of regular income - who would go through all the up and downs and the stresses and strains for a return of £3750 per annum ?.

Beggars belief to me that his parents, who must know what's going on and must worry greatly ("our 31 year old son is still living with us, spends all his time in his room, hasn't got a job nor had one for years, hasn't got any qualifications, hasn't got any income, hasn't got many friends, isn't likely to meet a woman etc"), apparently don't ever confront him.  It's pretty shameful really (both for them to let it go on and for him to put them through that worry).

Why are people thinking that his Parents live together with him?  I am a probabilities man and I doubt if that is the case.

But whether I am right or wrong we ought to give him a bit of slack.  I know he is difficult to get on with, but a level playing field would be good where John can respond.
By:

Hasn't he acknowledged before that he lives with his parents ? - perhaps I'm wrong, but I'm fairly sure he said that himself.

I don't see why we should 'give him a bit of slack', I'm not being nasty or rude towards him, I'm simply stressing the reality of his situation.  Anyhow why can't he respond on here ?.

It's like on his blog, he totally ignores the critics and often doesn't post negative comments, all he does is harp on about past successes and how if he had a bigger bank he'd be back in business.

No point being all softly softly with him...
