Wow. Johns back in business.Be intereresting to see how he
goes now he seems to have a more workable bank. |

If he won 50k the likelihood is he'd soon give it back and more purely down to the way he operates. At this moment he'll no doubt be feeling invincible but over the course of this weekend he'll be on the chase and it'll be down to pure luck if he's plus or potless again.

He did say in the car crash thread he created a few months back that he was living with his folks and was on benefits.
How has he raised his latest bank roll? |

tinca tinca, that £188 is the profit from the start of May so he's actually lost around £400 odd this week if we consider the other pnl's he put up from start of May were -£31, +£6, +£632.
Maybe his creative accounting convinces him he's still got it. |

Thats well spotted ghetto,I did not look closely at the dates.
I was hoping he was doing well as it is horrible to be stuggling financially. Mind you having looked closer at the individual bets he does seem prone to betting on some wild markets.I should imagine it is hard for anyone to have an edge in the Mixed Martial Arts market. |

Mind you having said that he did make a £5 profit doing it.

Johns still got it
one. I'm hoping she does anyway. I think Schiavone and Kuznetsova are decent lays in the outright. I'm liking the look of Azarenka this year, although her match with Na Li is a tough one. The winner of the French will come from Azarenka/Na and the Petkovic/Sharapova matches in my opinion so the 'New Winner' Market on Betfair is worth getting involved in @ 1.33-1.4. If I had the bank I need and was happy to tie money up, I would be betting a significant amount on this market as there will be trading opportunities available. I do not think Schiavone or Kuznetsova will win it, and they are the only 2 previous winners of the event ![]() Another profitable week Friday, 3 June 2011 7 Day Update 27th May-3rd June 2011: +£1.07 Posted by John O'Dwyer at 11:10 PM 0 comments Links to this post |

The following post shows up on my Google Reader (I subscribe to his blog; better than following Eastenders IMO) as being posted about 9 hours ago. When I clicked on the link to read it on his actual blog site (I wanted to see what comments people had made about it), it says that the post has now been removed. So I thought I would copy and paste it here from my Google Reader so O'Dwyer's other fans can read it:
Finished by John O'Dwyer is a headline I hoped I wouldn't use. Nearly anyway. If I wrote the extent of how bad things really are on here it would shock a few people, and it has nothing to do with losing. I've not been losing recently, I've just not had the means to do anything about it for the time I need. There is big money to be made here as well. I've already won £350 mythical quid from predicting a new winner of the woman's French Open and Rafa as the winner of the men's, but what good is that?! When I did make the money I made 2 weeks back, I withdraw most and paid off various credit cards. I've been using an ultra small bank and seeing as this is my only form of income, it's an impossible task. I've had a bad few months overall on Betfair and not been able to do what I did last year. I know a 1001% why. I'm using too small a bank size. My Betfair bank at the moment is £2.66 and it's not been higher than a tenner for about a week now, hence the small amount. I owe about 5k in total which again is not betting related. That £2.66 is the lot for me. I'm all sold out. Wish me luck, and thanks. |

Just logged on to his website and his last blog has been removed which
showed his latest p+l. Da daddy,if your post is accurate I'm sorry to see it as I dont like see anyone bust their bank and as you say he is good entertainment. Hopefully it's not RIP John O'Dwyer. |

I hope he has learnt a very useful lesson in humility and I wish him all the best for the future.
|
|
By:
He still seems to think he only lost because his bank was too small i.e. he learnt how to win too late, after his funds had run out.
Of course it's easiest to win for micro amounts as you can get always get the best price in thin markets. I fear for him that he'll be back and make the same psychological mistakes as before. |
|
By:
He's posted then removed them before, he removed one post where he was begging for money iirc.
To be honest it's probably the best thing that could happen to him, blowing the lot so he has to finally face up to his responsibilities. His approach was always had the feel of a man clinging onto a ledge and was bound to fail sooner or later. I know at the moment £5K in debts probably seems like hell to him but it's really **** all, they'll all be unsecured debts so there's little they can do in reality to get their money back. And the banks who've lent it to a dreamer on the dole probably deserve what they get. It should be the making of him to realise the dreams over, for now at least, but somehow I imagine he'll still be blind to the truth. |
|
By:
![]() The fact he deleted the post shows that he still believes in the dream |

Based on many of his blog posts John is a strange character. On the one hand he posts a link to a young terminally ill's person blog, and talks about how not moaning about something as 'trivial' as a hobby/job, yet there's always the inevitably boasts in his posts about how successful he was in the past, e.g. tipping taxi drivers £20 etc, and how he still has 'edges' etc.
In the grand scheme of things financially he isn't that badly off, £5000 debt isn't exactly a huge amount. However, the problem is he seemingly hasn't got any way/isn't prepared to find another way of earning money other than betting. And that's why I find his attempts at displaying 'humility' somewhat false, because at the end of the day it isn't just a hobby/job and can't be dismissed as "not really important", in John's position betting represents his life, both past, present and future, and with that comes all the associated issues to those around him, like his parents who must be extremely concerned about him and who presumably pay for his day to day existence. At what point is John ever going to take a step back and look at his probable future ? - rather awful thing to say but is he just thinking "oh well, in the long run my parents will snuff it and then I'll get the inheritance ?". And I don't mean to preach, I've been in a similar position, got into debt through over-spending and losing money betting during the good times, then went through two redundancies/months without work thus generating more debt, and then even when I found employment within afew months of staring we were all put on a 4 day working week etc. As soon as the 4 day week started I realised I had to take stock and entered an IVA, which hasn't been 'fun', but 2 years into it I know that in 3 years time I'll be debt free (and have the 'pride' of knowing that I'll actually have paid off every penny that I owe) and I'll never make the same mistakes again. I still feel stupid about my past, and often chastise myself about it...wonder if John will ever face up too ?. |

![]() http://odwyer1980.blogspot.com/2011/06/this-time-last-year.html This Time Last Year.... by John O'Dwyer I'm finding it quite hard to look back at the moment, especially with Wimbledon around the corner. Had such a great time there last year, it's going to be quite hard to watch this year knowing how things have changed so negatively. This is a screen-shot from this time last year which totals £8,762.55 from the 11th March - 11 June 2010. There were consistent winning days, built from a solitary deposit of £500 in February 2010. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_tnR5W8Y3arE/TBHFRwweUjI/AAAAAAAAAkI/zKhFmMkyAEQ/s1600/3monttt.jpg http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_tnR5W8Y3arE/TBHFlOrgqQI/AAAAAAAAAkQ/Ia1DJnZdtIE/s1600/3monnnnn.jpg The frustrating thing is 'knowing' you can do this again, but using a bank size of 'nothing' it's going to be quite difficult, if not impossible! And to reiterate, I'm still 15k up since I started Betfair in 2007. I've just managed money poorly, over-spent and combined with a bad few months, this has left me more or less bankrupt and in debt. Big mistakes. I think the last time I had 1k in my Betfair account was March. Oh well, what's done is done! I'm 100% confident things will change for the better once I start using around 1k again, but when that is, I do not know. For anyone wanting to visit Wimbledon btw - It's well worth doing! Much better than the US Open and probably the best sporting event I've been too, especially in the baking hot weather. Even if you can't get on Centre or Number 1 courts - the outside courts are just as good. A very good experience all in all. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cCFkiBMQ2D4/Tfe6P3ixK7I/AAAAAAAAA7Q/3kcPdGeiMz8/s1600/nov.jpg http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vrvVR2RwvBI/Tfe6dTSbShI/AAAAAAAAA7Y/2MjGx6AHxPg/s1600/venus.jpg http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OWKFKPPKmQY/Tfe6xNbpXYI/AAAAAAAAA7g/oD2u_DnanlE/s1600/vera.jpg http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ECR1YaLT2rE/Tfe68br-O_I/AAAAAAAAA7o/wqlpP8BAdi4/s1600/hill.jpg |

Ok, now this is getting silly. I am starting to wonder if the whole thing is a hoax as he's beyond a joke now.
I follow his blog by RSS because you get to see the deleted ones and the amount of sports he bets on is incredible not to mention he lost -£1,109.72 on Mixed Martial Arts; is there even this much money traded on those events! What has really made me post this is the comments on his latest post. He made a loss of £42.29 even though he was 'Finished' with a bank of £2. How did he get the money...'the dole cheque of course'. I seriously hope that's a crap joke. He then goes on to say (after someone foolishly tries to give him advice), ' I know where I've gone wrong that's the thing. I've been here before.... '. If that's the case you numpty then why not try and learn from your mistakes and take measures to prevent them happening again. Beyond help. |

Thanks turtleshead. Like other posters I wonder if John's blog is actually true - he says he lives with his parents, how many parents would stand around funding their 31 year old child's life, without ever giving him a seriously hard time about how he needed to get a job, a social life etc ? - Doesn't add up, it's not like John could hide the reality from them for all this time.

Typical John...Twitter threads littered with "I went there last year" bragging. Comes across as a total obsessive, if he's not actually betting (because he's got no money to do so) he's still posting threads about odds etc. on Twitter.
Remember a couple of years or so back Sky showed that programme "Ben : The Diary of a Heroin Addict" ? - John would be absolutely perfect for the gambling equivalent of that (and in case you're reading John no that doesn't mean you'll become a TV star, it means you're ruining your life at a young age, and arguably more importantly ruining the life of those around you). |

Some contributors to his blog really don't "think", I see someone is suggesting that he might take out an IVA or a Debt Management Plan, err don't you need to have a guaranteed monthly income for such things ?! (and I don't think JSA or money from his parents counts !).
I'd love to see John's personal statement if he applied for an IVA "Well I've been unemployed for years but made money on Betfair and spent lots of money going to tennis and golf tournaments (or just buying tickets and not going !) but then it all went wrong, I still don't know why. But I'm still in profit to the tune of 15k over 4 years and I know if I could just get £1000 I could win thousands again. Did I tell you I went to Wimbledon last year and gave every cabbie £20 ?. Oh those were the days...when I get that £1000 those days will happen again...hello...hello !?!". ![]() |

You seem a bit obsessed with this character whoever he is. That can't be healthy either ? |

Perhaps because back in 2007, when I posted on here much more than I do know (and under a different username) I and afew others were the ones who were telling John where his delusions of grandeur would lead him. As we'd said before it's abit like a car crash, you turn away but curiosity makes you look again. Beyond that I couldn't give a toss what happens to John, no sympathy whatsoever.

By:
The facing facts posts of the ' it's all over' type and then the retractions/ removal of the posts , hint at psychological issues.
|
|
By:
Like the removal from his latest blog of the suggestion of an IVA/DMP and John's "what's your email address so I can find out more" type response - no doubt John's lurking around on here and has read what I said about such a possibility yesterday. Facing reality/a life not funded by Betfair is evidently something John cannot do.
