thinking aloud here
my 1.10 bet would obviously have caused an overround on the back side this overround is going to be instantly snapped up Jolly Green Giant he wont come out to play unless an overround appears so can't offer me any other price no overround - no lay appears, which it didnt for entire duration of the clock so somehow JGG is timestamped to take my bet despite higher prices on offer |

magician, the point you are missing is that this was an in play market and no-one would have submitted a bet that would have matched tmm's bet in that 5 sec delay timeframe.

By:
So now it's possible to circumvent the in play delays, but only if you're Betfair.

The lack of understanding on thread appears to increase as the thread does!
No clocks are being beaten, your bet is getting matched. The fact is that probably only a few people spotted this and bothered to get a clear answer, everything else is hyperbole. |

There was no lay at 1.10 Magician
there were serious lays at 1.13 and 1.14 during the countdown these lays were pushed down by further serious lays at 1.15 and 1.16 no way on god's green earth did someone submit a lay of 1.10 when the bloke lost the point - if he did he was winging and a praying it he needed several things to go his way: someone like me to make a balls-up the layers at 1.13 and 1.14 to take down their lays or get matched (which aint happening because he lost the point) and the further slice of luck he had was the 1.15 and 1.16 layers also took their money or got matched with confidence i can say had i not submitted there would have been no unmatched lay at 1.10 in the system how this works is beyond me but one thing's for sure despite what Scrip says, this Jolly Green Giant aint more efficient for me |

Im cloud cuckoo land people with purple hats are often voted emperor for a day, however in efficient in play tennis markets those type of curious incidents do not occur. EVER. |

Curious how it's been happening for some time yet you only appear to have found issue with it now. |

I don't blame betfair necessarily. Companies are under continuous pressure these days to maximize profits. And if a rival exchange is behaving immorally you often don't have a choice in such a competitive environment.
The key is regulation, and the cause a failing GC's policy. So we have bookmakers who can do anything they want, and soon we'll have betting exchanges who can do whatever they like. Why should anyone even be surprised ? |
|
By:
on the whole there are no more overrounds during in-running tennis
these markets are manic at times, serious panic ensues and i myself in the past have deliberately caused an overround to ensure i got matched, yet we no longer see em efficient i agree but who's snaffling up the extra money and how do they manage to do it without the rest of us seeing? it must be getting snaffled instantly - that is not possible on an in-play market, or at least it oughtn't be |

can i add to my 20.32 post
there was no money leftover at 1.10, not a penny - almost as if someone knew the exact amount i was requesting just another bit of luck for him i guess |
|
By:
Read my posts, I have clearly told you the start date already.
I really don't know why I should bother to explain, I have clearly set out what is happening. The fact that I bothered to phone Betfair and find out what is happening is testament to how little you have all been concerned by the changes which you now seem to acknowledge have taken place. |
|
By:
it definitely is going on. just tried it in the tennis.
Tried to back Luczak at 5.7 and 6.2. People were asking to back Gulbis at 1.16. Both bets were matched at my requested price straight away even though there were none of these amounts in the market. Now that ive actually tried this i must admit i am a bit more concerned. just doesnt seem right somehow. After all if im matched at the price requested and Betfair lay the other side they are profitting from their own markets. Surely thats not on. Surely the price differential should automatically be passed to the customer not go into the pockets of Betfair? |
|
By:
"it must be getting snaffled instantly - that is not possible on an in-play market, or at least it oughtn't be"
Of course it is, especially in a two player market, if there is money on the other side the can match it there. Its' going to happen all the time. |
|
By:
"Surely the price differential should automatically be passed to the customer not go into the pockets of Betfair?"
ITS NOT GOING TO BETFAIR!!!! Is nobody listening? |
|
By:
you're the one not listening mate
there was no 1.10 in the market, not before i submitted, not during submission and not after submission yet i got matched at that price |
|
By:
To be honest, I took the effort to phone Betfair and ask for an explanation when I noticed it. I suggest you all do the same. It's such a shame nobdoy is listening and everybody is getting upset, if you just though about it for a short amount of time it would start to make sense.
|
|
By:
Scripophilist so you're suggesting Betfair are circumventing the in play delay because a) the incoming order will create an overround b) the bettor has requested the odds to cause the overround and therefore wishes to be matched at those odds ?
|
|
By:
Scripophilist.
We are listening, we are not daft, you are not making yourself clear. state your position. |
|
By:
humour me and explain then PLEASE in layman terms who are matching the bets if not betfair or an end-user?
|
|
By:
I've given up, phone Betfair yourself I thought I was being helpful but noone is listening.

"Surely the price differential should automatically be passed to the customer not go into the pockets of Betfair?" ITS NOT GOING TO BETFAIR!!!! Is nobody listening? So where is it going then Scripophilist ? The books overround everyone is matched at the odds they requested not some adjusted odds to 100% |
|
By:
Robin's example contradicts you
he should be getting matched at a higher price than the one he's submitted and Magician, in your example customer, enters back tails at 2.0 ( which is not available), but we're talking about a scenario where odds of over 2 were available, but the customer still gets matched at 2. |
|
By:
you've said nothing mate lol
in order to have no overrounds in tennis markets someone must know the bets before they hit the system and then match them instantly that is a FACT who or what has the capability of doing this? |
|
By:
sounds like bubbly for the shareholders meeting to me ;)

How many shares do you have to own to be able to stir things up a bit ? :)

"in order to have no overrounds in tennis markets someone must know the bets before they hit the system and then match them instantly"
Absolute rubbish. Think about how daft that statement is. If you have open bets in the market, which there always is, a bet enters the market, the matching engines sees the overround calculates the opposing side and matches it. Voila. Whether there is a delay or not doesn't matter. When the order reaches the market it can be matched. |

BF is supposed to be person to person betting. If they are operating their own bots in markets that is bang out of order.
Can we have a definitive answer to this question please. |
|
By:
"humour me and explain then PLEASE in layman terms who are matching the bets if not betfair or an end-user? "
You really just don't get it do you!!!! The opposing unmatched bet of another user gets matched. |
|
By:
"If they are operating their own bots in markets that is bang out of order."
They are not they are matching unmatched bets in opposing positions. I really give up now, nobody is bothering to listen. Speak to Betfair if you want an answer. |
|
By:
why dont you start explaining things Scripophilist instead of just saying people are talking nonsense.
I just backed Luczak at 5.7 for 12. The other guy was 1.16 to lay. My bet was matched immediately despite there being no money in the market at the price i requested. How could that be? if Betfair laid the Gulbis money at 1.16 for 59 they have got a 2.50 green screen already. And if theyre running this bot on every inplay market on the entire site they could make a fortune betting on their own markets. Tell me why my back of Luczak at 5.7 shouldnt be matched as 1.16 lay of Gulbis? And if this 2.50 doesnt go to Betfair where does it go please? |
|
By:
Scrip, i've been trading tennis markets professionally now for nigh on 6 years - if there were open bets on the system i know damn well that no overrounds would appear (given they were correct odds)
what i'm saying in times of absolute blind panic people make mistakes and to have not seen an overround (on a serious market) for ages now is highly suspicious |
|
By:
Wiljons, The Man Marcus and Robin Ewe's posts appear to speak volumes to me. Very suspicious that Marcus's 1.1 bet was hoovered up with the exact money.
I may have interpretted this completely wrong but the obvious answer appears to be that Betfair have added "another string to their bow" by hoovering the overounds as soon as they receive the bet to their server on an in running market and not giving the bettor a chance to cancel his mistake. My guess is Marcus was matched as soon as his finger left the mouse and not five seconds later. |
|

Scrip - why is he not getting matched at 7.25? |

I've tried to help you lot but really don't seem to understand. Speak to Betfair, that's what I did when I saw it.

To the original poster:
About five years ago my edge was suddenly taken away as well. My advice to you is simply this : Your strategy was always going to be vulnerable to advances in market efficiency on here and frankly you did well to last this long ...However there are lots of different ways to gain an edge on betting exchanges, get working on something new and good luck to you... |
