it does appear undeniable now that these are the FACTS:
betfair will match your request so long as there's another request to lay off against they won't advertise their prices because there are none, whatever you ask for you get they aren't subject to any delay they are no longer unbiased holders of our money they haven't communicated any of this to their 'customers' |
By:
Of course, the other way of looking at this is that Betfir are now offering an added service. Now, instead of having to place multiuple individual bets to get your bet matched across multiple runners you need just one single. Simple, fast. To be honest, the idea of letting individuals scrape pennies but only by monitoring the markets 100 times a second was ludicrous. Such activity provides zero benefit but huge logicistal issues.

I don't have a problem with Betfair matching the overrounds but they should pass on the price to the customer, if someone wants to back at 6.2 when there is 1.16 to lay on the other side then the backer should be matched at 7.25ish, not match them at 6.2 and pocket the difference!
By:
betfair will match your request so long as there's another request to lay off against
that should read: betfair will match your request, ahead of anyone else, so long as there's another request to lay off against |
By:
This effectively means that all overround botters are now out of business. Time to go back to McDonalds.
By:
betfair are matching bets and you don't have a problem with that?
By:
If betfair want to be fair in these two runner markets they could just as easily stick the market up as a 'to win' market with one runner listed either lay or back them
By:
I;d rather they didn't. But then I'd rather some idiots did monitor 1000 markets 10 times a second, thus adding costs for the remainder of us who don't.
By:
what about the layers at 1.11 - 1.15 when i requested 1.10
they are now rendered obsolete because i made the mistake of causing an overround |
By:
* didn't monitor
By:
i have a problem with there being no clear announcement about what is happening. instead the information about this will dribble out via those in the know.
By:
Are they though, Marcus. Would you not be hitting all of the prices between the market price and what you requested, but only be given the price you requested?
By:
marcus too many people on here overlook the obvious disadvantages that this will cause for their own ends. I'm surprised Bot hasn't turned up to tell us we're all overreacting and to go to bed
By:
in the old days Lat i'd get matched at all prices
now the prices on show appear to be just that, for show |
By:
TMM - was your bet therefore matched by somebody who wanted 11 (or less) on the opponent?
By:
Latalomne, if marcus's bet is matched regardless of the delay just cos the overrounds there he'd miss out on the offers waiting the 5 second delay and they'd miss out the chance of getting matched at 1.10.
By:
Agreed, but the layers have still laid the prices they want. BF are (presumably) just creaming off the difference between their lay prices and your requested back odds.
By:
Just to be clear - I'm assuming that the bet is only matched off after the 5 seconds (or whatever the delay happens to be for the sport in question).
By:
Joe, no-one can convince me otherwise that betfair operating in the markets, let alone under these wholly unfair conditions, is good for the customer
TV - i only requested to back at 1.10, there was no lay on the other side |
By:
It's a worrying example as TMM should have been getting matched at up to 1.15, certainly not at 1.10 for the complete amount.
By:
i can only assume the price of 1.10 is what caused the overround, maybe if i'd requested 1.11 the market would have been 'efficient'
but it seems once the market is going overround then betfair kick in, at the head of the queue - almost we'll sort this market then let the punters play |
By:
Latalomne , the layers may well have laid the prices they wanted but the chances of them getting matched against TMM disappeared when he created the overround. Bit pointless laying prices if even though you're offering better odds betfair have already taken the cash for there risk free profit
By:
This taken to it's logical conclusion is ludicrous. If you ask for a price in running and that is the best you can achieve they have a license to print money. You ask for 1.2 to back but there are prices all the way down from 1.5. They fill your request at 1.2, fill someone else's lay at 1.5 and pocket the difference.
By:
I just created an overround in the so far empty game betting market davy-lopez tommorow but its not getting snapped up immediately, in fact is still there.
Does that mean only inplay markets are monitored by the 'Green Munching Monster' ? |
By:
I think the monster is officially off for now
By:
i tried it on the djokovic - roddick market and it wasnt working there either. It appears they only turn the hoover on in the inplay markets as theres more cash to thieve off their customers there.
By:
if betfair know a back is on it's way for one player at 11.5 anything requested for the other player at 1.1 or less will cause an overound
once the bet is in the system it can't be cancelled therefore an overround situation is 5 seconds away, betfair it seems, no longer allow this |
By:
which is why i asked on the tennis forum when was the last time anyone saw an overound during an in-running tennis match
certainly can't remember one when any proper money is in the market |
By:
So you ask (admitedly by mistake) for 1.10 and you get 1.10, but it seems that BF have somehow automatched almost before your bet hit the market?
Was it then matched by the 1.15 layers I wonder? They are happy enough as their 1.15 is matched and don't know any different. But you are paying a lot more than previously for your mistake as you don't get 1.15 any more, just 1.10. If this is true then I don't like the sound of it at all. |
By:
TMM - You should lookup the betid in your account statement and ask them to investigate, because if there was money available at 1.15 then you should've been matched at those prices weather you created an overround or not otherwise something is very very wrong!
By:
I've noticed some strange goings on. I'm not articulate enough to explain but agree with lots of posts on here. Something isn't quite right.
By:
I'd like BF to make a statement about this because the implications are immense. This would cream SO much money out of the system that it would be scary.
By:
teapot
what they going to say to me? the 1.10 was in the queue first blah blah there was no 1.10 laying before, during or after the countdown clock - that is fact other posts here show i'm not the only one getting matched by invisible money |
By:
you are saying something slightly different though marcus. You're saying theyve removed the feature of best price execution where you get the best price available even if you request lower. They definitely havent as ive just tried to back Isner at 1.01 and was matched at 1.56.
By:
I've just had another go and it's blatant. Backed Anderson repeatedly @ 2.5 when 1.65 is available to lay on Isner. No 2.5 there but it keeps getting matched.
By:
FFS guys No wonder Scrip left this thread exasperated.
Betfair are not matching your bets, the other end user's are. If the equivalent back or lay scenario is not already on the exchange then it will not get matched. You put up a back or lay then the new software engine will try to accommodate your request from the existing prices available. If it aint already on the exchange in some form, then you won't get matched. Nothing to do with tme delays or nicking the spread or anything like that. Just a more efficient platform. That's my understanding anyway. Now someone tell me I'm wrong :) |
By:
Only matching around a near price? Sorry havent got time to read all this, is someone beating the clock?
By:
But I think the point is that if you lay 100 Anderson and there's no money there in between 2.5 and 100 you'll get 100 not the 2.66 you should get from backing 1.6 on the other side.
By:
Actually I never thought this would happen - that betfair would keep the money that doesn't belong to them. I still can't believe it.
Very disappointing, and that they didn't announce it makes it a lot worse. I've now lost all faith in betting exchanges as a form of future entertainment. Not overreacting in any way, just the way it is. I hope this is my last post on this issue. Why should I waste any more of my time on a bunch of amateurs. |
