right, just got a result.. and it's really not looking too good. something very odd is going on in running, matched at odds which were simply not there.. hmmm

People using api apps will be having some value taken away by this, it seems normal for some to not want to believe this if it is happening.

if the IDs on the Player A back matched the ID on the Player B lay and there's a discrepancy between the sums, then cleraly the overround is going up in the ether.
70% of me believes that this has been implemented with good intentions, but there has been a horrible brainless bit of buggy progamming implemented. The fact that the mofos decided not to tell anyone is absolutely unforgiveable however. |

what can be added to TMMs FACTS so far? here's an additional FACT: betfair have made themselves look like robbing thieves by not making any announcement - either officially or by a representative posting on this thread |
By:
i doubt you'll see a matching ID mate
By:
This is definitely correct, was happening with the darts tonight, if you place a bet which creates an overround, you are automatically matched without your bet appearing on the market .
By:
kirk - you're missing what's going on here.
1.4 available to lay on player A. nothing to back on player B. Put up a back offer of 3s on B, you will get matched immediately at 3s, despite there being no corresponding lay. We believe betfair have updated their software to automatically convert your back at 3s to a corresponding lay, however the lay would be converted to 1.5, deducted from the 1.4 available bet, with the delta 0.1 disappearing. |
By:
so i just tried to lay the outsider at 3.5, with the other player available at 1.47... nearest price backing outsider was 3.7, beneath me is 3.1.. matched for the entire lay at 3.5 - instantly ! now, of course there could be a bet for my exact stake going in at exactly the same moment at 3.5 as mine.. i find that rather unlikely though.. nothing appeared from me on screen, and nothing appeared backing at that price after i was matched. disturbing to say the least.

how will this affect bookmaking for the punter ?
By:
There's NO such thing as matching ID's
By:
I know that DStyle ... it is where the spread goes that matters not the match which is a good idea.
By:
Yep, this stinks.
I only hope this is good intentions gone wrong rather than skullduggery. |
By:
It will create the situation where a paranoia grips the market as people try to replace their value and the spread will widen hence counteracting the intention to get people matched if it is the case.

PMSL, All the common conspiracy posters are out in force I see. The fact is there is no overage, no loose pennies, not clock beating your bets are getting matched more efficiently, surely that's what everybody wants. I don't see what the problem is? this post aint looking too clever now |
By:
How could it be good intentions gone wrong ?
It requires a matching algorythm deliberately implemented. |
By:
Wasn't look that clever at the time Marcus. :)
By:
DStyle you need to read my earlier post again and read between the lines .. you didnt understand my subtlety in making a point.
By:
what good intentions?
market efficiency has never been a problem on in-running tennis maybe bandy yes or fcking serbian football but tennis? |
By:
Ok, I just managed to get them matched across two separate accounts:
less than a second apart lay 1.43 lay 4.0 matched against each other. Where did the overround go I wonder? |
By:
does this mean i cant offer a book% anymmore ?
By:
this was set up imho with anything but good intentions for the punter
we're big enough to look after our own tennis markets without betfair raping us |
By:
good intentions and good ideas are not necessarily the same thing.
By:
Betfair have removed Best execution, one of the fundamentals of this exchange, and are taking punters money without having publicised the change.
Good intentions gone wrong? I'm finding it hard to feign surprise...they did exactly the same thing on Exchange Games in December by putting their own money into the markets and rigging it to beat customer's money in the queue, but not actually announcing it until a week later. |
By:
Thinking about it, I suppose it does medemi.
I wouldn't have a problem with Betfair matching a 1.5 layer and a 3.0 backer in a tennis match but keeping the overound is plain wrong. |
By:
Sorry I made a mistake there. They never announced that they were beating their customers money in the queue, just that they were providing liquidity to the market.
It'll be interesting to see what spin they put on this one. |
By:
thing is they'd have never done this on the horse-racing without an annoucement
my back of 1.10 should / would have been matched at a higher price were betfair not in the market - that fcking aint right |
By:
keeping the overround is plain wrong as is not being subject to the 5 second delay in running
if i make a mistake creating an overround,i want a chance to cancel before someone has 5 seconds to try and get it not have it matched instantaneously at worse case scenario this stinks |
By:
DStyle did you get my subtlety yet? It relates to subscription api apps and the effect on them if bookmaking functions and basic trading tools are less effective if the best match is taken away. There you go spelled it out..

Don't normally post, but I have been monitoring a lot of these markets, and have noticed exactly the same as a lot of examples listed here which I find very disconcerting. Before this post appeared my initial thought was that some new, very clever bot was running, but this soon became a little difficult to believe. I have always traded on greyhound markets, which have at times been very illiquid to allow for quite large fluctuations in book %'s, with over and under rounds common place. Over the last 2 weeks, I have found the markets to very, very rarely go over or under round, and these markets do not go inplay (apart from 'live' tv races) - it struck me at the first that they were being market managed, but reading this thread makes me wonder if Betfair may be testing on pre-event greyhound races as a forerunner to moving to horse racing markets, which in my opinion would be bad for everyone concerned except for Betfair themselves.

By:
sorry kirk - what time was your post?
By:
betease
none of us know just which markets this is being applied to its only if you trade often and have a gut feel for something unusual happening compared to your norm that any of us would be on this thread |

isnt this good news for bookmakers on BF ????

DStyle I think you were refering to this.

What is Betfair?
Betfair is the world's leading betting exchange, a concept it pioneered. All bets on Betfair are placed there by users who either want to bet for a selection or outcome in the normal way (back), or bet against a selection or outcome (lay). Bets are matched between people with opposing views. Kinda puts a mockery to their About Us statements when they'll happily step in to match up people with opposing views as long as they can keep the overround for themselves and remove the opportunity for other players to take those betters odds or players to cancel ricks/mistakes before other users spot them |
By:
All the changes that Betfair have made through the years have not bothered me one bit. This issue bothers me big time. It's unethical and very, very wrong.
By:
They'll be making an announcement about this tomorrow.
Let's just wait and see what they have to say. Goodnight. |
By:
How do you know that Dub ?
By:
wonder what they'll say about the money they've nicked
By:
does this mean that if i lay a book, BF will match all of them ?
By:
If your books underround they will :)
