luckylucas - i think most people understand perfectly, and the penny hasn't dropped with you or you a trolling.

I think you think you understand perfectly, but what you believe cannot be happening....it would play right into the bookies hands and betfair would be finished as it would not be fair

Roger. IF they are working on this then it's a disgrace they are testing it on a Live Platform at this stage of implemenatation.

they don't need to interfere and in fact shouldn't be

they have ballsed up the solution to a problem that doen't exist

betfair playing the markets, in whatever guise, mustn't be allowed, simple as

I think everyone has misunderstood to be fair......and hence we need some clarification from Betfair, as our rumblings and arguments aren't getting us anywhere.

Exactly Lucky which makes you wonder what sort of company we are actually dealing with.

But I believe they didn't expect this interpretation to be jumped too and if it iscorrect...which I doubt, they will pretty quickly have to step back from it :0

What else can the below imply ? They must be working on a solution ?

Q. If Betfair can match across selections why arent those prices displayed in the market view?

A. We believe that if a customer sees a price on the screen and they place a bet to match it they will expect to be matched at that price even if they request a worse price. We therefore expect to display prices that could be matched across selections once we have an efficient way of providing best execution across selections

we know that, if its into a different area you get the price asked...thats fair enough, you wouldn't have got matched at all before....or would have had to wait

luke?

the man marcus 09 Mar 15:46

it didn't take long actually

goes onto the next matey waiting at 1.02

what would happen if the 1.02 layer and me were the only players in the market and the trades mentioned were the only trades placed?

It wouldn't match fully

What is fair about giving one punter one price and another a different price and pocketing the difference ?

my second question where me and the layer are the only players and the 10 layed at 60s and 500 matched at 1.02 are the only trades

what if there is no-one to shovel the additional 90 onto, what then?

Queue A - 10 people are waiting to buy a slice of cake

Queue B - one person comes along with a cake, his cake will make 6 slices and so there are 4 people still waiting, this supplier out of goodwill to the operator has 2 extra slices....they get given to the waiting queue leaving only 2 waiting (It was his choice to give extra)........

......there is then a recall due to glass in the cake, the Queue return the 8 pieces to the vendor....there is no surplace cake for the market operator ;)

heres another example lucas:

theres a very empty market.

team a: n/o / 1.01 980 (asking to back 1.01)

team b: n/o / n/o

Imagine if someone came along and requested to back 20 at odds of 50.0 on team B. The bet would be matched immediately due to new system.

The 1st punter would be risking 20 to win 980.

The 2nd punter would be risking 980 to win 9.80.

Can you tell me how this is matching bets? Its not matching bets at all. Both parties are subject to different liabilities and potential profit.

the market dries up and those trades were the only ones placed

or the site crashes allowing no more trades

etc etc

worse case scenario, what would betfair do with the additional 90 they have, return it to me? some how i dou8bt that very much

They are matching the difference rather than pocketing it? What does that mean?

Call it what you like.

Betfair are pocketing the difference
Betfair are matching the difference
Betfair are stealing the difference
However you put it, Betfair are keeping the difference for themselves

Have to say I scared myself a bit with what I typed reading it back - but I've learned from it that it can clarify things when they're down in writing.

You're right JML, both the transactions are complete but there is someone with a 90 liability that isn't going to go to a customer.

or infact it doesn't match at all unless it can all be matched fully ?? who knows thats why it needs clarification.....seems to me there are lotsd of arrogant people who think they know the answer, when infact there is only one arrogant organisation that can give us the answer!!

I don't think they are (could be wrong, but until they confirm no one will know).....the difference is going to the market and is matched...If I have layed at 60 when 1.02 is backing, then more people will get their backs matched then if I had done it directly with them

exactly luke, which makes betfair's decision to roll this out absolutely disgraceful

flawed? not so sure it is

not telling us? inexcusable

complete and utter disdain for its customers which surely speaks volumes, even to the people supporting them

anyone seriously trust betfair after this?

Not telling us is the pits, the fact we are all on here, trying to work out if we are being robbed is disgusting....I think for the majority above it is no problem...although as above you are laying customers at 1.02 but are infact laying at higher....the fact Betfair don't gain is irrelevant...it is a bit robin hood to say I'm spreading on your money to others (even if you requested it)

Marcus I don't mind the bot matching across markets but it needs to do it at the actual matched prices. If one person is offering to lay at 1.9 then the other person should get 2.11 instead of the 2.0 that he may have asked for.

I think tbh they have done it with the best intentions of getting more customers matched easier and people getting what they asked for without hanging about in non-fluid options or markets...but the complications and rumour starting caused is very damaging and will do more harm than any improved matching.

you can't be both poacher and gamekeeper

what happens if the program collapses in a market and ends up costing betfair 100s of thousands?

if there's a dispute? can we expect them to be impartial?

not sure who said it but other than runnign things properly they have to appear to run things properly

involvement in the market will lead to suspicion every single time something goes wrong

why risk even a slight taint on their integrity?

.........

Have to say I don't agree with this, the person laying the 2.0 DESERVES to be matched because that person has found someone wanting to back at 2.0.

Sharp minds and all that.

Brandon, If there was someone on the same side of the market laying the 2.0 then this would always match. It is only when there is no match on the one side of the market that betfair will cross-match and this is when best odds should still be given.
