I've never played this format before. Is the gist of the game.. We stick with the original team and 4 subs all season?

No. You get one free transfer each week. If you don’t use one then it rolls over to two the following week. It doesn’t roll over any more than that.
Any additional transfers cost four points. There’s also a wildcard pre and post Xmas where you can make as many changes as you want for nothing. |

Yep 5 trnasfers rolled over and on that wildcard thing when you can change your whole team, it reverts back to your previous team the next week.
I'm new to this too Emitdeb, never played this before so having to learn it quick, no way is it going to be possible to know all the tactics and tricks these old hands know...no pressure on us newbies |

Nobby is correct, and unused transfers previously lost when
using a chip also roll over now. (according to fpl experts on twitter) Duffy you can search fpl on twitter, lots of fpl users put fpl in their twitter name and they are quite open about chatting. |

Cheers YHTL, one question that has been bothering me, if I don't notice that one of my players isn't playing do my subs automatically go in, I get that you put them in some sort of order underneath your team.

Yep in order.
But... If you play 3 defenders and one doesn't play he is replaced by first defensive sub. So you get 3 defenders If you play 4 or more defenders then subs are drawn from bench in order, so if defender doesn't play you can get a striker on bench replacing him if he's in position 1. Goalie only subs for goalie |

don't play then you have a blank. Your other sub would be available to sub for midfielder or striker. |

The wildcard is permanent. There used to be one called ‘a free hit’ where you could change your team for one week then it reverts back at the start of the next set of games. That’s been replaced y this new ‘mystery chip’. |

looking in the rules, the free hit is still there, it says you can use it once a season and the mystery chip is another one that is playable from January. Is that accurate then or are those rules just not updated? |

I’ve not read this years rules (as my inaccurate posts prove!). Maybe the free hit is added after the first game. That would stop people accidentally using it now while transfers are unlimited.

You can pick any formation but must have at least 3 defs, 2 mids and 1 striker in your 11.
Last season was a poor season for defenders, and this season the rules around bonus points, appear to favour strikers even more than previously. |
