Sorry, this page is not available through Virgin Media You can cancel your Virgin media contract any time up to the 29th(?) October because they are due to enforce a new contract of inflation + 3.7% every year. Can get a much cheaper full fibre deal off vodafone or Hey! |
|
By:
You can also arrange a discount. Told Virgin I was considering 5G and they cut my bill by around 18% on an 18 month contract. 5G is still cheaper, but still not enough usage to get an informed idea of how good/bad it is yet. Another 18 months should do it.
Watched 'The Card Counter' newly released on Netflix this evening and found it tedious and hard work. Not terrible, but still a hard watch. Surprised it is rated so highly tbh. |
|
By:
Virgin tried to raise my bill, just told them to cut me off... They quick sharp dropped the price back down and I stayed.

Netflix released a 3 parter on the Jill Dando mystery last week. I saw it, was not bad, most detailed study of the case I'd seen.
Had a lot of people involved with the case that I'd not heard much about before, like the ex boyfriend BBC boss. The detective who put Barry George away I did not find impressive at all. Still insisting he had Barry bang to rights. Seems to me the blue range rover was the best good lead, but they couldn't trace it, so gave up and started looking for the local nutter. Barry George is in the programme, put on a ton of weight living in rural Ireland. |

Yeah Virgin kept giving me a discount to renew then put the price up every April !!!!!
They were charging me £29 a month for broadband but I've gone with Hey! for £20 a month. That's £108 a year saving. ISPs are like car insurance companies, great introductory offers then screw existing customers renewing - best changing providers at the end of every contract. |
|

Re: Jill Dando, I got a vibe they were hinting at the ex boyfriend quite big. Though he came across in interview very innocent.. Owed her £35k and described as a man you wouldn't want to cross...
|
|
By:
yeah the BBC boss ex boyfriend was interesting in the Netflix programme
facts being... 1. Jill Dando broke up with him 2. He owed her £35k He was very triumphant when he boasted that he'd proved his lack of motive to police by showing them how much he had in his bank account |

Watched 'The Ballad of Buster Scruggs' last night (Netflix). Six short American Western stories. Put it off for a while but finally succumbed. Funny, especially the first one (circa 15 mins)
|
|
By:
That's a good one Aspro, the Tim Blake Nelson one especially is very amusing.
He's also excellent in " Old Henry. " |
|
By:
'The Ballad of Buster Scruggs' Tom Waits as the prospector and the Liam Neeson short stood out for me... Nice Coen bros movie.. imo too.
|
|
By:
Indeed Slippy, an excellent opening that puts you in the mood for the rest of them. If you don't like that one, you might as well give up. Just looked up 'Old Henry' and looks a good film too. Will try it out. Thanks for that.

Currently my favourite movie of all time is on Netflix... The Wolf of Wall street. apart from Ted 2, obv.
|
|
By:
I've always considered my favourite film to be 'The Hunt for Red October' but have to agree that The Wolf of Wall Street is excellent.
|
|
By:
Talking of Tim Blake Nelson and the Coen Brothers, I've just remembered another classic that I randomly watched and thoroughly enjoyed... Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?. Can't find it currently, but worthy of a watchlist if it should become available.

Dead mans shoes from 2004

Hasn't got Tim Blake Nelson, but the Coen's Miller's Crossing is probably my favourite film ever.
|
|
By:
Covid clear thank goodness and thanks for all the posts on here. Plenty to get my teeth into for sure.
Just watched the latest mission impossible film absolute pants gave up in the end |
|
By:
"Oh Brother" is in my all time top 10 films and the soundtrack is absolutely epic as well.
"Damn, we're in a tight spot." |

Last night I watched 'The Mercy' - It wasn't bad, but I followed it up by watching the 'Deep Water' documentary on YT. Both give the account of Donald Crowhurst's attempt at sailing around the world, single handed, without a stop. Both have a similar run-time, but the documentary is by far the better watch.

I've just watched the first 2 episodes of 3 of Telemarketers on Sky Docs. The title and story didn't really grab me much, but it's a real eye opener of a massive multi level scam that seemingly has been going under the radar for decades. And you (well I do) find yourself really rooting for the documentary makers, who are two ordinary Joes on the bottom rungs of US society. The USA continues to surprise.

man on fire....one of dezel washimngton best films...9/10 Brilliant film but I think Training Day might just nip it in a very tight photo finish, both great movies. |
|
By:
Dead Man, Jim jurmusch 1995, monochrome acid Western with great tunes from old black.
Brilliant film with a great soundtrack, outstanding, perhaps not everyone's cup of tea but if you have a decent sound system it helps. A very different film out of the top drawer. |
|
By:
A fully deserved Oscar for Denzel in Training Day.

Great scene. I always liked the early coffee shop one too. ‘This paper is 90% bullsh1t but it entertains me’ one.

I remember watching a DVD for the first time. The first thing that came into my mind (and undoubtedly others too!) was I’m going to have to watch Basic Instinct on one of these things!

One for the "to see" list most definitely, release date is October 18th.
"Killers Of The Flower Moon." Reading the reviews it scores A* and is the sort of film I'd get into for sure. |
|
By:
On firestick.. Equaliser 3 has just appeared... fyi.

Just looked that film up Slippy (KotFM). At 3.5 hours, it should be a cracker, especially with the ratings it has already received. On my list for sure.
After tempting me again (above), tonight I returned for a second viewing of '71, which is now on Netflix. Imagine being a British soldier, lost and on your own, in Belfast 1971, not knowing who is friend or foe. Get it right, you're in luck; get it wrong, you're dead. What could that possibly feel like? '71 takes you to the very heart of the place and it isn't pretty. One of the most gripping and intense films I've ever watched, especially the first time around. |

Over tree hrs for a movie!? Not easy to retain quality from start2finish for that length of time..
I've always preferred movies to be between 1 and a half hrs, 2hrs MAX!! |

Casino (1995) Has to be another of my all time favorites.. 2h 58 minutes.. I bet I've got you there proSniper...

By:
![]() ... tbh, The first time I watched Once Upon a Time in America I was mesmerised.. Brilliant.. But a few years ago, I did revisit it, and tbh I wont be re-revisiting..But Casino I've seen it more than a few times and I'm actually looking forward to watching again... |
