we are all guessing 1tp, on what is in the public domain could you have convicted him with any offences?
By:
I suppose they had a torrid relationship and
He didn't wish to antagonise her into further releases. Saving his ammo for court, after full disclosure from plod. But they got back together instead. |
By:
doesnt matter what i think police and cps thought so
greenwood sits there for 13months as a 100 grand + a week career goes down the tiolet when he has evidence to stop it within hr,s, who amongst us wouldnt do the same |
By:
yhtl, also the case that as getting convictions in sex cases is so hard the authorities dont go after those who make up complaints as much as we may think they should. not saying this happened here, just yet another scenario to consider.
By:
Man U had no choice but to be as impartial as possible about assessing the Greenwood allegations because their brand and sponsors are worth a hell of a lot more than the player is. Which is why we are where we are. Purely commercial decision as it would be for any large company. There are other football clubs who, in the same circumstances, would be keeping the player because for them the player would be worth more than anything they could lose in sponsorship etc.
By:
1tp, you paid a brief who advised you to keep quiet, you are a footballer he is a legal expert.....
yet again not saying this is what happened just what might have happened. |
By:
There are loads of possible scenarios, but the
most obvious is most likely. I don't think she made up stuff, but she did seem to try to catch him out, and he didn't really go for it. They've also most likely had a few barneys like Mr and Mrs Depp. She didn't seem to be scared of him, and they got back together so toys back in pram, dummy picked up, and move on.... Oh we can't because We've been stupid... Well move on anyway... Somewhere else. |
By:
that would explain why no public utterances from the happy couple....
By:
it wouldnt explain giving up a career at utd and england over basically a misunderstanding and 13 months of we are where we are.but never mind if nothing comes up i,ll do time we,ll have kids and i,ll marry you

The price of love hey, we wouldn't understand.

maybe it would if went from an argument to potential time in prison??? maybe he received bad advise about what he should do. there are many, many possibilities, it is entirely possible that the hundreds of posts on here havent even come close to what happened or why he made the decisions he did.
By:
how many possibilities remain after in a field of 2 one stands firm for 13 months resulting in cps pressing charges
one not giving any evidence to satop that decision for 13 months and plod investigating it for 12 months 24/7 as far as we no theres only 2 people involved this aint no great conspiracy ,is it even possible to have a conspiracy between 2 of you,who are you conspiring with ? |
By:
What's point of firing off your best argument before
you get to court so they can counter you. |
By:
'as far as we know' that sums it up perfectly, we just dont know. the people with most information are the cps and they have decided there is no realistic prospect of conviction so they dropped the case. time to move on.
1tp, i hope i am never in the wrong place at the wrong time and end up in a court with you on the jury ![]() |

I've just been told RR sucks Russian ****!
Frankly I don't think she should be on Countdown whilever this invasion of Ukraine is going on. |
By:
I think the suits have failed in their duty of care to a boy who has been with them since he was seven!
Disgraceful. Would love to see them pushed now to give any transfer / loan fees to a women’s domestic violence charity if they want to walk the walk after talking the talk. |
By:
Do you know how many "boys" are regularly thrown on the scrapheap each year by the likes of Utd?
Save the hand-wringing for the kids who aren't creeps. |
By:
Nah,
None of us know what happened between these two young people. It seems every woman and her dog seem to think they can decide how this football club runs it’s business. I repeat Stanley Johnson is alleged to have punched his wife in the face so hard he broke her nose and an ex Peime Minister wants to make him a Peer of the Realm. |
By:
stopped watching countdown until she severs all ties with her russian husband
By:
Also who are his parents, his mother? What sort of man have they raised?
At any point in his time with United was he ever taught manners or how to treat women……ok not their job but they have left a potential £100 M asset be written down in value by a presenter if a game show. Maybe Rachel Riley is right and RichRd Arnold deserves to go because under his stewardship his club has potentially list a most valuable asset |
By:
and I am not watching Countdown until Rachel Riley condemns the genocide by the Israeli Government and Defence Force of the Palestinian people!
By:
I remember when Riley was on ITV and struggled
with maths. Odd dat. |
By:
COUNTDOWN was already a mute button job for me,since the ghastly Murray took over. Now it’s a complete no-watch since SHE opened her mouth.

Jamie Carragher spat in a teenage girl's face and didn't lose his job. How come?
Never heard a word of criticism from Neville. He just turned a blind eye and kept taking the money |

the people who are calling for the CEO to go dont know anything about business. UTD had to allow this case to reach a conclusion the same way that man city have done with mendy. if they cancelled his contract (either by paying him off or by using some ethics clause) and sent him on his way before due process i assume they would have gotten sued. im not a lawyer but this is my understanding.
look at kevin spacey. i know its not football but i understand that he suffered all sorts of financial disaster cause the maker of house of cards sued him. he has been found not guilty. the makers of house of cards i expect will now be sued left right and centre by mr spacey. some of these pundits and quiz people dont seem to undertsand how business works. i dont think the CEO of UTD could do anything else. |
By:
But the case was dropped when? February was it? Several months ago at least.
They've spent an age doing an "inquiry" whatever that was. Apparently the young woman didn't speak to them so not sure how they'd reach too strong a conclusion. Since then, the CEO has authorised a sly attempt to bring him back in and then folded like a pack of cards when word got out. The brand has been massively damaged and they've ended up losing the player, maybe for a cut price fee now that everyone knows the situation. Someone tell me how the CEO has come out of this with his reputation anything but trashed? |
By:
Arnold has indeed screwed it up.
Reportedly he decided to bring Greenwood back in April, but was 'waiting for the right moment. If they'd just done it then it might have worked; just brazen out the initial reaction. By trailing it with off the record briefings for months it allowed opposition to build up. Apparently the girl's mother was giving United their info about what really happened. I expect Mason had done nothing to persuade the public of his innocence because Arnold (as well as his own legal advice) was telling him just to say nothing and he would get his job back. He was expected to return as late as a week ago. |
By:
Sounds about right
By:
The brand has been massively damaged and they've ended up losing the player, maybe for a cut price fee now that everyone knows the situation.
Half a dozen girls having a fit on twitter and a couple of articles in the Daily Mail will not massively damage United's brand. Win, lose or draw United are a juggernaut, The lad has had a year out so there is no knowing how good he will be and let's face it no one was every going to pay top dollar for him. At worst the Glazers have lost £30 or £40m Someone tell me how the CEO has come out of this with his reputation anything but trashed? Who gives a monkey's about the CEO or his reputation? Not me that's for sure. |
By:
if that were true sounds like bec ause the couldnt get the girl to take the bunga ,they got the mother to take it
![]() ![]() |
By:
Nobby bang on, massively damaged my ar5e, this has been going on for months, if the sponsors had been bothered about Greenwood coming back then he would have been booted out months ago and unlike United, the sponsors would have been savvy enough to realize what the backlash would have been and still weren't hurrying it up.

It wouldn't surprised me if we had a new Rachel Riley song by Saturday.
Something along the lines of her not being fit to suck my **** ![]() ![]() ![]() |

jeez, who'd have thought the supporters of Best, Giggs, Ronaldo, Greenwood and Antony* could be so misogynistic.
