sparrow - Grin He's a fox in the box there's no doubt but his movement is non existent at times and I hate his diving. He's also on eye watering wages.

I'd like Arnie to stay and knuckle down. I think he's a very hard player to replace.

Has no one read the Guardian link I posted above?

From that article.........."It is understood that West Ham’s offer for Gómez has not been accepted. His contract contains a £45m release clause and Celta Vigo are using the interest in him to seek a higher fee.

Another complication is that Gómez wants assurances that he will not be back-up to Marko Arnautovic, West Ham’s first-choice striker. He will not move to the London Stadium if he is not part of Pellegrini’s favoured starting line-up"

To sum up our bid for Gomez has not been accepted.

Agree with you injera and we have to question his attitude as the only time he knuckled down properly was when Moyes was here.

Like I said , he's seen as a replacement for Arnautovic . When Arnie is good he is very very good but when he's not on his game he's awful .

Things are beginning to look very promising for next season according to this Evening Standard article.

What do we have here?   A post by Reynard that's not Spurs related. Surprised I see you've dampened your expectations. Last year you predicted West Ham would finish 3rd. Cry

If you study my words closely , snowflakeking , you may detect a hint of humility . So yes , definitely not spuds related cos humility and modesty seem to have escaped you . Unlike you , and many of your kinfolk , we are totally aware of our place in the grand scheme of things . We don't have an over-inflated opinion of our club , are aware of our faults and don't claim to be a major force in the English Premier League . Spuds fans , on the other hand , crow about their 'achievements' whilst simultaneously overlooking that they have won precisely the same number of trophies in the last decade as West Ham . Precisely bugger all !
So quit all this Champions League nonsense and stop obsessing over a competition you'll almost certainly never win . All you have to brag about is your new stadium which you finally managed to fill when you weren't even playing there . Yes , we have a soulless fish bowl of a 'home' but at least we can hold our hands up and admit the fact cos we aren't as delusional as you .
Good luck for the coming season Happy

Excellent retort reynard but I do despair at the negativity surrounding our stadium. There is nothing wrong with it other than it's not Upton Park and that was never the same after they demolished the Chicken Run. 25,000 extra fans every week must surely be a plus and we just have to get on with it and stop moaning.

West Ham have rejected a 22m euros (£19.7m) bid for striker Marko Arnautovic from a Chinese club after the striker said he wanted to leave.

The Hammers regard the offer for the 30-year-old Austrian, who signed a contract extension five months ago, as derisory and immediately dismissed it.

He wanted to leave in January after a lucrative offer from China.

However, West Ham did not receive an acceptable bid and eventually Arnautovic said he was "happy to stay".

While he appears to have changed his mind, West Ham have not.

Having renewed his commitment to the club so recently, it is understood the the club feel the forward should honour his deal.

When Arnautovic signed a contract extension in January, he said: "The fans gave me the power, they gave me the energy and that's why I have to be here and that's why I want to stay."

We need to get rid pronto..........

West Ham have decided to cut their losses on Marko Arnautovic and sell him for €25m (£22.4m) to a Chinese Super League club, believed to be Shanghai SIPG, after Manuel Pellegrini told the board to let the Austrian forward leave.

Arnautovic informed West Ham this week that he wanted to be allowed to move to China and, although the club initially told him to honour the contract extension he signed in January, they have since come to the conclusion that keeping him would have a negative effect on squad morale. Pellegrini is furious with the 30-year-old and the player’s teammates believe it would be better if he were sold as soon as possible.

West Ham rejected a bid in the region of £19m for Arnautovic on Tuesday, deeming that figure insulting, and initially hoped to take a hard line with a player who has scored 11 goals in each of his two seasons at the club. Yet there is an acceptance that Arnautovic, who was signed for an initial £20m from Stoke City two years ago, has become a disruptive influence in the dressing room and West Ham are expected to accept Shanghai’s improved offer of €25m.

Arnautovic has finally gone.  Phew! I thought we would never get rid of him.

When the Chinese club first showed an interest and his agent brother was mouthing off about Marko being too talented for a relegation struggle (we weren't in one the lying mug)most supporters I knew wanted him gone then.

Yet the lemons at our club turned down £35m(?)for him and gave him a rise.  Just feeding his ego that he's bigger than us.

I don't see any of the 4 forwards we had last season being at the club at the start of the new season but as long as the owners don't meddle I've got faith that pellers will replace them well.

Gomez (if and when confirmed) will pave the way for the departure of Arnautovic

Ok , so maybe the other way around then . Maxi Gomez has turned down the chance of Champions League football with Valencia to join West Ham for a reported 50m Euro . Good news as far as requiring a top quality striker to replace the 3/4 that we're offloading during the summer but why do I get the feeling he simply wants to play in the Premier League , not necessarily West Ham ? Possibly yet another mercenary but hopefully we'll get one decent season out of him before he starts looking up the table for alternatives Mischief

Ive got a slightly different take on the Gomez saga/situation.  We are not his preferred destination.   He would rather go to a team playing European football.  Fair enough that's ambition.   If he does come here it's more agent driven as it would ensure they get their cut.

But fcuk me how exciting would we look with Gomez leading the line and any 3 of Anderson, Antonio, Yarmenlenko, Fornals or lanzini behind him.

Sign him and a defensive mf and who knows we might even be good enough to keep him content.

West Ham are battling to convince Celta Vigo’s Maxi Gómez to snub Champions League football at Valencia and join them for a club-record fee of €50m (£44.5m) after selling Marko Arnautovic to Shanghai SIPG for €25m.

After intense negotiations over the weekend West Ham are still in with a chance of winning the race to sign the highly rated striker – a race they feared they would lose as late as Sunday evening. They have agreed to pay Gómez’s release clause and are now trying to persuade the Uruguay international to choose a move to the Premier League over staying in Spain and joining Valencia.

The board has let the gaffer down in his pursuit of his no.1 target.

From what I can gather celta wanted the money upfront we wanted to pay in installments.

Fornals was bought for roughly what we sold Arnautovic for.  My maths ain't great but selling/letting go Carroll, nasri, Perez etc bought in about £10m in transfer fees and shaved about £15m off the annual wage bill.  Add that to our original summer transfer kitty and the release price of Gomez was well within our range.

Billic said for us to get our main transfer targets we have to go early or go big.  But the owners were flaffing about as per usual.

We will probably end up with someone like 28yo Callum Wilson(overpriced and injury prone) or 28yo Mariega(hugely overpriced from what I have seen) basically expensive players with no sell on potential.

That's what I've heard but apparently if you trigger a release clause all monies are to be deposited with the selling club . We didn't want to do this despite it being a stipulation (£7m per year over 7 years was one I heard) .

We need to start behaving like a Premier League Football Club not market traders ffs ! Angry

From the Guardian this evening.........................

West Ham are resigned to losing out to Valencia in the race to sign Maxi Gómez from Celta Vigo.

Manuel Pellegrini was desperate to land Gómez after allowing Marko Arnautovic to join Shanghai SIPG for €25m this week and West Ham were prepared to break their transfer record to sign the 22-year-old striker for €50m (£44.5m).

However Gómez has long favoured a move to Valencia, who can offer Champions League football, and it is understood the La Liga club struck a deal with Vigo on Tuesday afternoon. They will pay in the region of €16m and also send Santi Mina and loan Jorge Sáenz to Vigo.

Gómez’s contract contains a €50m release clause. Although West Ham were willing to part with that, La Liga rules state the sum must be paid in full to trigger the clause. West Ham wanted to pay in instalments and have struggled to reach an agreement with Vigo, who are under no obligation to accept those terms.

Pellegrini will move quickly to identify new targets. Along with allowing Arnautovic to move to the Chinese Super League West Ham have sold Lucas Pérez to Alavés and released Andy Carroll, leaving Jordan Hugill and Javier Hernández as their only recognised forwards.

However, they are unlikely to move for Callum Wilson. It is understood that Bournemouth want £70m for the England striker.

Villarreal have signed Alberto Moreno on a five-year contract after the left-back’s release by Liverpool.

It is believed that Hernandez has been told he will have a key role at the club next season as Pellegrini doesn't want a complete overhaul of forwards and believes Hernandez is a quality striker with the right service Confused

So basically we have no striker.

Hernandez can only play in a 2 or off the bench. He's too lightweight to play up top on his own. He has a dislike of running...
