Dave King is to step down as the chairman of Rangers next year after four-and-a-half years at the helm.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50556392 Major shareholder King made the announcement at the club's AGM in Glasgow. The South Africa-based businessman was one of the leading figures in taking control of Rangers in 2015. "I would not step down if the club continued to need my services and support. But it doesn't," King told shareholders. He will continue to support the club as a shareholder and in negotiations with retail partner Sports Direct. King announced there will be a new round of funding via a share issue, after which he will step down from the board. The club's financial results indicated £10m was needed before the end of the season and King's investment vehicle, Laird Investments, has committed to meet any shortfall. "Despite the personal trials and tribulations, I want to state that being the chairman of Rangers has been, by far, the greatest privilege of my business life and I will continue to use my shareholding influence to support the club and its board," King said. Rangers' negotiations with Sports Direct over the terms of their retail agreement continue, and King was sanctioned by the Takeover Panel for acting "in concert" with George Letham, George Taylor and Douglas Park to acquire more than 30% of Rangers shares in 2015. "I have stated in public many times before, being chairman of Rangers is not an experience I have been able to enjoy. It always remained a duty," King added. "Dealing with the Sports Direct legal issues was extremely time consuming and frustrating. Mike Ashley's attempt to have me committed to jail for speaking ill of Sports Direct in a TV interview was certainly a low point. "I now look forward to paying more attention to my South African and international businesses and to finally having the time to work with my children in the manner I had intended before my duty to Rangers put that plan on the backburner." |

Mission accomplished agent King.
Well done. |

Dear God Mission accomplished Agent King. More dated nonsense from Ronald.

Alex Rae spoke about this on Radio Clyde recently Trilby.
He said there would be a shares issue in January and, whilst he didn't mention DK stepping down, he said that there was a new major investor ready to come in. BTW DK will cover any further losses for the remainder of the season albeit the shares issue should see this not being needed. |

Did you see his post on the accounts? He didn't get anything right ![]() Great week with 6 points for 3-1 and 5-0 victories. How did the ref not give the penalty for handball v Hamilton? Fantastic display in Holland to put us top of the group. Although another stonewaller penalty denied. |

Great display by the Colts as well the previous week.
Beat Wrexham to reach the Tunnocks Cup Semi-Final. Against ICT on the 16th Feb and live on BBC ALBA. We're also through to the next round of the UEFAYOUTH League after a 4-1 aggregate win against Slovan Bratislava. 2-0 at Ibrox and 2-1 away. One to watch Nathan Young-Coombes. Nearly as prolific as Alfredo. ![]() |

Sheep fanny licking, tank-topped bum boys unbelievably fortunate to escape with a point last night after Super Rangers were denied a stonewall penalty - for which the ref even approached Stevie Gerrard after the game to apologise for. No worries, onwards and upwards we go with a wee diversion this weekend to meet the septic mob in the first cup final of the season.

I noticed Celtic rested their star striker yesterday, apparently for the final on Sunday. If ever we needed a win it's this game to give Gerrard his first piece of silverware. Looking at the odds on here 9/4 seems a generous price for Rangers imho. That said it could easily go into extra time but can't find a market for outright winner which I would prefer at around 11/8 at a guess.
Maybe I've missed it but if there is no market I will give Betfair a friendly call. |
|
By:
You have missed it, Stewart.
Sevco are best priced at 11/8 with Betfair, Paddy and Fred. You can get 4/6 Celtic at 365. |
|
By:
yes cup finals are difficult, SEVCO are probably value outright, not that I will be betting them.
A wee fun bet would be moreloes to get sent off. |
|
By:
2-1 looks about right for tomorrows game with Tav and Alfredo getting the goals.
About time we had a penalty, been denied 2 stonewallers in our last 2 domestic games. Delighted to see SG sign an extension to his contract. Happy up here and heading for the top. |

Bossed celtic for most of the match. Can't believe we never won.
SG got his tactics spot on as the stats tell you with 16 shots (7 on target) to celtics 5 (1 on target) 11 corners to 1 with 70% possession for Rangers. Forster had some great saves although he was a yard of his line when Alfie took the penalty. That and sheer bad luck in front of goal was our downfall. Yep got the penalty but 2 other stonewallers denied. The celtic goal a joke with 3 players offside. How the linesman missed it is open to question. Morelos very unlucky, although his penalty was poor, and seems jinxed in this fixture. Still he's scored against better teams than celtic in Europe so won't have affected his price tag. |
|
By:
Lol, aye and Craig Whyte was a billionaire and Ronaldo was on Murray's Private jet. Not to mention the super casinos, and hotels planned at Ibrox to generate million for the team.
|
|
By:
No denying the goal was offside but it was inches and no Rangers player appealed for it
so easy to see why asst referee missed it. |
|
By:
Rangers impressed me yesterday, celtic keeper inspired plus luck. Another day rangers would have won easy. Celtic have the hoodoo on your team atm.
|
|
By:
They look as if they have impressed a lot of people, Celtic fans can't stop laughing at their superstar striker, the betfair bigots who follow them and think all is rosy in Govan, and now a neutral observer, Deplaster who bet the hoops. Unfortunately it was the people handing over the cup and winners medals they had to impress.
10 trophies in a row, 4 on Slippy G's watch. The bullfighter, the magic hand and mcmurty, gone for less. |
|
By:
A bit more than inches Dan. I'll post the pic when passed by the mods.
BTW imagine Malay calling someone else a bigot. Self awareness not his strong point. ![]() Incidentally what happened to the celtic hotel and shopping complex due to open next year? |
|
By:
Spot on Deplasterer. Disappointed with the result but not disheartened.
|
|
By:
speaking purely as a neutral, f--kin gutted. cheers.
|
|
By:
When they can't beat Celtic at their worst, how the fk can they expect to get near us when we are at our best.
All that game has done is make sure that Celtic invest in the January window and the gap will increase again. |
