Hi Gooner,
Using yesterday's selection as an example.... Bet 60 - STEAUA v UNI. CLUJ @ 16:15 Win: 1.18 ~ DNB: 1.05 ~ Lay: n/a (price too high to lay for £30.00) .....and adopting the following staking plan on my bank of £200.00: Win 5% (£10.00) ~ Draw No Bet 10% (£20.00) ~ Opposition lay 15% (£30.00) This resulted in a profit of.....Win: £1.80 ~ DNB: £1.00 ~ Lay: n/a = Total: £2.80 All Win/DNB bets aren't placed on BF (I've found the 5% commission results in uncompetitive prices in these markets) whilst all lays are done on BF (as the flipside is the prices offered elsewhere on the 'double chance' market are far inferior). Obviously the commission reduction is factored in to all the P/L figures relating to the lay bets. Hope this helps and as always, any further questions are welcome. ![]()

Good luck Robd you'll need it as I'm am following so I hope I don't curse you!! :/
I'm starting with a bank of £100 which i won at poker last night and see how it goes!!;) You seem very knowledgeable in your random world footy i'm impressed and had a gander at your Blog one thing stood out majority of your selections were over 1.5 so i will be throwing 5% on this too as I'm a gambling git lol! Hopefully with your help I can become more disciplined ;)So I'm chucking £35 worth of bets on, so where are you betting DNB?? Best price so far is 2/9 with PP only looked at WH 1/5 KC home record is very good but i had just looked at the form guide for last 6 games BC are second luckily they are behind KC ;) Plus where is your short list of potentials??

I am scared now you're on board Jez!
![]() Well you've started off in a good place by using the 100 sheets you won via poker so if the proverbial hits the fan then at least it won't be all bad mate! Interesting you picked out the goal trends as it's something I haven't paid any attention to (with regards to logging the prices etc) so not sure if it'd show a level stakes profit or not but the info's there to be used and abused by all so good luck to you ![]() With regards to prices, I think for clarity purposes I'll start stating which firm I used for each bet when posting any 'qualifying selections' (although I realise that 'getting on' at certain bookmakers maybe an issue due to account restrictions). Betting wise, it's a quiet day in the world of football, although I'm obviously chomping at the bit from a viewing perspective for tonights CL action (especially Simeone's Atleti who I think may well overwhelm a substandard Milan) so the game I posted earlier was only a 'potential selection'. Therefore there may not be any bets today unfortunately but I'll clarify either way at 5ish. Further bad news is that there are no potentials tomorrow and I'm off to London Friday a.m for my mate and his missus' house warming (who I don't think would appreciate me being glued to my laptop!) and don't get back until 11:30 Sunday so I'll post Sunday's potentials up later so we can hit the ground running when I get back.

Well done and good luck Robd. Just a couple of comments if you don't mind.
I think your ratio of betting 1:2:3 is very good but personally would be concerned over betting 30% of bank in one go - 3 or 4 early losses and it's bye bye bank (if I've understood your staking system). I'm also interested why you didn't recommend Wigan last night (I know it's after-timing but I did back them) as they seemed to meet the attributes you are looking for in a team: good recent form, good recent home form, poor away team with bad recent form? Best wishes.

Just seen your Rijeka message Jez
![]() All I'll say is that the league figures look good but the market pre-KO would have held the key to the respective team news especially as this is a cup game! Personally, I stay well clear of cup games from a betting perspective but I wish you the best of luck and I'll be keeping an eye on it now ![]()

Hi Charlie,
Cheers for the support and 2 good questions.... 1) Very good point made with regards to the potentially overly aggressive staking plan I adopted. This was one of my primary concerns when starting this process as common betting strategists would raise their eyebrows at such excessive staking and I was therefore very malleable in altering this plan should the volume of defeats become unmanageable. As the plan was always to begin with a relatively small 'start' bank of £200.00 in order to 'test drive' the system with minimal financial damage, I envisaged reassessing the results after 50 bets to see if any alterations (whether that be selections or staking) could improve the chance of long term profit. So far the defeats have been kept to a bare minimum (although I agree that the current 1 in 30 strike rate is unsustainable) but it is something I will again look at when the century of bets is reached as this is a factor I am much more likely to scale down than increase. 2) Wigan were very much a home favourite I liked the look of as I listed it in that mornings 'potential selections' as all data strands were shown to be superior to that of Barnsley but unfortunately there failed to be noticeable market support for them both throughout the day and in the run-up to KO so I begrudgingly gave them a swerve. I tend not to look back in anger at the missed winners as that is the benefit of a relatively rigid process like this as opinion is kept to a minimum and if 'computer says no' then so be it but I do admit there is a slight gnashing of teeth when results like that (which prior to this system, I would've gone for) come in but WD for you're win mate and hope plenty more come your way ![]()

Hi Robd
Thanks for quick, polite and reasoned reply. I can't remember what advert it is but it goes something like "and that makes a refreshing change". I've just learned that Kaiser's are SA. I thought they were American. I generally restrict betting to teams in Europe - unless it's cricket - some times I see team names and have absolutely no idea where they are from. I did make an effort to go through the teams you put as potential bets on your blog, and most of the time I got the country wrong yet alone the league. I haven't checked your results very carefully but did notice that the success rates for bets where home winners were over 2.0 were not particularly profitable - I did this in my head without checking so I may be wrong - but if profitable then it's no problem. But may be woth keeping an eye on. 100% agree that you shouldn't beat yourself up about missed winners or backing losers but must admit it's difficult for me not to do. Tonight I'm going for the two Spanish teams (please do not think these are tips!!) because it maintains interest in two games which I would generally not be bothered about - which also shows another weakness on my behalf. Really hope you are successful. Take care.

Thanks for the kind words Charlie and the thoughts are reciprocal.
Yeah you make another interesting point regarding the bigger price selections and this is another factor I will definitely review when I get a century of bets on the board. Hope your picks bring home the bacon for you tonight as I also have similar financial interests in a certain team from the Spanish capital doing the biz tonight so fingers crossed all round! Cheers for the contributions and further suggestions are always welcome ![]()

Daily Review - 23.02.14
(61) TWENTE v FEYERNOORD: 2-2 (62) MARITIMO v BELENENSES: 2-0 A quiet punting week from a personal perspective was brought to a close with late drama in Enschede and ill discipline in Madeira. After suffering at the hands of the cruel mistress that is injury time last week, vengeance was sweet as a lacklustre Twente fought back from 2 down to salvage a draw from the jaws of defeat and ensuring that the number of losses thus far still stand at a meagre 2. 7 yellows and 2 reds were pulled out in the Maritimo game but the only numbers I was concerned with were the goals as a couple of 1st half strikes from the Verde-Rubros did the job. So now with Week 7 done and dusted we can see that the 100% record of weekly profit is still intact and long may it continue! ......Selections: 62 (W 48 ~ D 12 ~ L 2) Daily P/L: +£24.01 (+12.01%) Weekly P/L: +£85.58 (+42.79%) Overall P/L: +£544.03 (+284.02%) As always at the end of the week, all the selections, results and figures will be put on the blog shortly so feel free to have a browse and you are more than welcome to 'follow' the blog by selecting the option at the top of the blog screen ![]()

Finally got home (long day
).I hope you will forgive the apparent after-timing but hopefully you will have seen that I'm a pretty genuine guy (and unfortunately 1 of them was a loser.....which wouldn't make much sense ). So as predicted it was just the two qualifiers today.....Bet 63 - SPARTA v BRNO @ 17:00 Win: 1.18 ~ DNB: 1.04 ~ Lay: n/a (price too high to lay for £30.00) Bet 64 - GAZ METAN v ACS P.T @ 18:30 Win: 1.80 ~ DNB: 1.33 ~ Lay: 6.20 ......which resulted in......... (63) SPARTA v BRNO: 4-0 (64) GAZ METAN v ACS P.T: 0-1 I now have a hatrick of losers on my hands . Looking at the aftermath, it does appear that it's a fine example of how predicting the outcome of a football match can never be an exact science. After 3 mins the home team were down to 10 men which turned everything on it's head in the time it takes you to make a cuppa!. Judging by the stats at least, the Lupii Negri of Medias appeared to have coped pretty well the disadvantage (more corners, shots etc.) but another cruel twist of footballing fate was still to come as the away team grabbed a last minute winner to take the spoils. Elsewhere, Sparta despatched Brno in ruthless fashion to increase the gap at the top of the Gambrinus Liga but it did little to ease the pain in Romania due to them being such a short price. Alas, Week 8 has opened up in losing fashion with the possibility that this could be the first week of financial negativity but there's a long way to go and I'm up for the fight! ...... Bad luck on yesterday. I wouldn't beat yourself up about it as your record is still mightily impressive. I've struggled to find any home team I fancy. Yeah good point CJ. I'm hoping that when these 'situations' do occur that the market would do the talking and therefore wouldn't qualify as an actual bet but only time will tell I suppose as I plan to re-assess my whole method after 100 bets in both selecting and staking terms. Cheers

Daily Review - 25.02.14
(65) BORDEAUX v LORIENT: 3-2 (66) M. SUNDOWNS v O. PIRATES: 0-1 These defeats are like London buses! The Sundowns fell to defeat at home for the first time in 11 games (and that was to table-topping Kaizer Chiefs) after failing to reply to a 36th minute Masuku strike which looks like it could consign Week 8 to the red. Bordeaux kept the hope of profit alive however after grinding out a victory in wet conditions on the west coast with a notable first goal for Guillaume Hoarau after his brief sojourn in China...... Hi Robd
Bad luck for yesterday. You're bound to come across a few consecutive losers so I wouldn't worry. If the underlying principles and discipline are right then you will win. You've shown both. I thought yesterday's home teams were a pretty poor bunch. I checked earlier and, as an example, I think it was four home wins from 14 Scottish games. The same as yesterday I can't find a home team today I'm confident in. I screwed up a bit yesterday: I did lay ManU but also backed Oly's to win 2-1. Also bet Dortmund for over 3.5 and bet Dortmund to win 3-1 and 3-2. The sad bit is I had to go out and couldn't lay off the correct scores. For a bet today I can't find an alternative to Real to win and DNB. Keep smiling. I'm also sweating on Aus v SA (under 19) I'm on Aus but odds are 1.33 on SA.

Looks like we're having 'one of them' at the moment Charlie!
![]() With regards to tonights action, I'm with you regarding Real as I think this may play into their hands tonight. I always fancy them more away from home given the additional space behind the defence of the opposition and I think their swift counter-attacking tendencies can exploit both Joel Matip's lack of pace and Jens Keller's tactical ineptitude....Madrid win for me also! (a death knell if there ever was one!) One thing I have been keeping tabs on regarding my system is a 'supremacy rating' I give to each of the selections. This is basically a value configurated from 6 different data strands (form/goal diff/points etc..) which I envisaged would show the superiority of the home team over the opposition in any given fixture. This hasn't been a factor in either the selection or staking process thus far due to the success and lack of defeats I've experienced but I'm hoping that the larger the 'sample pool' gets, the more potentially relevant these 'supremacy ratings' may be. I'm obviously reluctant to alter anything until at least 100 bets are reached due to this sample size factor but just to give a quick snapshot of the current situation regarding these ratings, below are the highest, lowest and median rated selections so far..... Highest: SPARTA v BRNO @ 7.92 Median: BE'ER SHEVA v B. SAKHNIN @ 3.99 Lowest: ESTORIL v BRAGA @ 0.86 Curiously all of the defeats and half of the draws have fallen below a 'supremacy rating' of 3.50 which, while the sample size of 66 is still limited, is interesting. The obvious caveat is that although the win % drops below this rating, the odds are enhanced given the disparity between the two teams is much less. As it stands, the selections below this 'invisible line' are still showing an overall profit but I'll be certainly keeping a close eye on the proceeding 34 bets where this is concerned.

Hi Robd
You're far too eloquent than me! The way I see it is the higher the odds the less likely you are to win: common sense that's how odds work. But somehow you have to decide whether to bet or not and why you're betting. You seem to have derived a way that works, as in is profitable. And I really hope your success continues. You seem an honest bloke (or blokess, or bloketrangeress). As to bets: I've sprinkled correct score bets on Real but laid "Any Unquoted" at 5.4. It's drifted to 5.8 now. I can't see either team scoring 4 so really don't understand the odds. Also backed under 1.5 goals. I've also backed Chelsea to win. Keep up the good work.

Wise words Charlie. I agree with all the below and I've always justified it to 'outsiders' that I find the art of punting as enjoyable as others find their particular hobby but with added benefit that mine doesn't cost anything (and mostly makes money) whilst theirs (9x's out of 10 anyway) does. Hopefully last night went well for you anyway (backing Madrid-laying Chelsea good / laying AUQ and backing unders not so good) as my straight Madrid back and then top-up on Madrid -1 after the 1st goal did the biz.
Fell asleep before the Colombian game last night so will start to draw a line at midnight for selections now. No qualifiers today I'm afraid but I'm strapped in all weekend (apart from Sunday evening) so the bets will be plentiful (and hopefully profitable!) as I reckon we may reach the 3/4 mark by Week 9 ![]()

HI Robd.
I'm officially the second best tipster in our house now. Ruby's number one. She's a goldfish. Do you think Betfair will give me half of my losses back on any unquoted. I was half-right as only one of the teams scored four or more. I must have had a few to many to drink last night as when I saw my balance this morning I thought "oh dear". On checking my statement It didn't tally with my balance. Yes I'd lost but not enough to get the balance down to where it was. But checking outstanding bets I saw I'd had three more bets: Cardiff to get relegated, West Brom to stay up and laying the draw on SA-Aus test match. No recollection of these at all! Tonight I'm backing Rubin Kazan to win and same on DNB. Glad you won last night and look forward to your selections over the weekend. Getting 3/4 way to target would be very impressive. Take care.
