I learnt to make decisions without letting emotions affect them. I learnt not to focus on losses, and how to remain calm and focussed in everything I do. Honestly, life changing.

Self belief is a vital commodity for a professional sportsman. Unwaivering self belief.

If you win, do you feel euphoria?
|
|
By:
Or is it.. on to the next one...

This forum is a breeding ground for the completely wrong type of mentality. People cursing players, cursing teams, cursing everything/anyone but themselves. COGNITIVE DISSONANCE is required

By:
because you see us all on here with our YES!!!, 111111 etc

I don't feel any euphoria, it sounds quite sad, but it's perfect. I don't focus on results, I focus on how I arrived at those results. I could lose 20 times in a row, but If I am confident I made the correct decisions, doesn't bother me in the slightest. I understand variance from a mathematical point of view, so I know what kind of nasty losing runs to expect

It's definitely true that you make the worst choices when you are mentally stressed off a loss. I think we all know this, but it's training yourself not to become stresed when you do lose that's the hard thing.

of course it is............that's why bookies make so much money........because punters are irrational animals, who cannot make objective decisions

emotion is an evil when it comes to gambling, or any form of trading

Too many winners can breed overconfidence and overstaking?
|

I'm so unemotional I even celebrated Estudiantes goal when I was on 0-0

it was like getting hit on the river

Just as too many losers can breed frustration which leads to chasing which is overstaking again..

So we should always bet with even stakes of 5% of our bank and identify 'value' bets with patience.

mine's more of a break even spiral

|
By:
hey, if you are breaking even, you are doing better than 98% of gamblers
|
|
By:
themover.. are you a master of your emotions then?
|
|
By:
5% is a bit large, but depends on the odds you bet at
|
|
By:
I'd say breaking even was a good step to take.

We should all just back Anzi once a week and become millionaires :)

I think I've been doing it so long I have none left

Wisewords, have a look at this for an idea of the kind of losing streaks you can expect:

bbk, I've found quite a good way to stop my losing runs. I just bet much less frequently.. my bet frequency slows down ALOT. Over the weekend I made 3 bets over 2 days.

Probably trawlled 150 matches

lol. that's one way I suppose. But then again, it's a mental thing. You can't just stop betting because you are losing. If I did that, I wouldn't earn a living

Oh well, looks like my un 3.5 on banfield is coming in. Thank goodness since i lost on the other 2 games
|
|
By:
This is totally wrong and I'm ashamed to say it. But my bet frequency slows down.. and my stakes increase.. it has worked everytime things have gone a little wayward
|
|
By:
but I realise this is not a long term strategy.. I've only been betting quite frequently since September
|
|
By:
and that if I contine in this manner.. the house of cards will come crashing down.

'thank goodness' that's emotions!

Sorry, I didn't ignore that link, I opened it but haven't read it yet.

yes, because i am just betting for fun to relax now :) I wouldn't be drinking whiskey and betting on stupid goals markets otherwise :)

goals markets have got to be the worst in the world
