Scottish football wouldn't die but it would put a stop to all the foreign imports. The old firm et al would have to bring through their own mediocre players, instead of paying a kings ransom for foreign mediocre players.

That's if Sky pulled the plug on the TV deal.

Aberdeen just put the nail in the coffin as the 5th to say NO.
Nice timing to be the 5th and decisive NO.

Inverness just announced as the 6thto say NO.

Very surprising that Celtic have said the square root of fukc all lately.

I've seen some woeful League 2 matches in Sky. They'll broadcast. How much they pay is another matter. Hopefully the SPL have a watertight contract, and Sky can't get out of paying them.

Sky lawyers would definatly have a cause like, in the event of the old firm leaving to England they can renegotiate the terms of the contract.
By:

Cause or Clause?

They might be irritated, but unless they made specific provision in the contract re the Old Firm games going ahead, they're probably on sticky ground with respect to however long the current contract runs.

Rangers chief executive gives reaction to 'no to newco' decision

STV 25 June 2012 19:54 BST

Ibrox chief executive Charles Green has insisted that Rangers will "come back and it will come back at the top" after six SPL teams announced their intention to block his side's league application.

Inverness, Aberdeen and St Johnstone announced in quick succession on Monday that they would vote against Mr Green's application when the 12 SPL clubs, including the soon-to-be liquidated Rangers, meet on July 4.

Dundee United, Hearts and Hibernian had previously made public their opposition, leaving Green with no chance of securing the 8-4 majority needed.

Speaking outside Ibrox, Mr Green said: "I'm obviously disappointed but I think it's something that, as CEO of Rangers, that we have to deal with the cards we've been dealt and it's unfortunate that people have come out and made those comments when my understanding was that there was going to be a vote next Wednesday — but you know I can't control other clubs."

Asked which league he thought Rangers would be playing in when the new season kicks off, Mr Green answered: "That's something we've got to work on over the next few days. First thing, we've got to get membership of the SFA ... then start speaking to the football league.

"I always want to play at the highest level and that's why we made an application to join the SPL — and whether you're a player, whether you're a fan or whether you're a director of a football club, you always want to see your club playing at the highest level. But cream always floats to the top and this club will come back and it will come back at the top — make no mistake."

STV's Peter Smith asked Mr Green: "Many of the Rangers supporters are saying that they would see that starting from division three and working their way to the top would be some sort of redemption. Would you agree with that?"

"Well, of course, I accept that that's a view but what we also have to look at is Scottish Football is driven by two factors: Rangers and Celtic. And the income drivers, the generation, the media, the marketing is all about two clubs, and really I think what we have to do is start looking now at what's best for Scottish Football and we all have to now unite behind the club and make sure that the decisions we take going forward achieve that result."

Mr Green insisted that the members of his consortium were not worried by the news of an SPL block saying: "The consortium realise that if we went down the route where newco was the route, it was a risk. It doesn't alter their resolve. Those guys invested knowing these obstacles that were outside our control and the resolve's there to see this job finished."

Asked if he would be running Rangers in the long term, Mr Green replied: "I said at Murray Park on the 13th of May that my job will be finished when we've got financial security, when the debts are paid, when it's floated on the stock market and that the fans have got the right and the opportunity to buy shares — and nothing has changed since May the 13th."

In a message to the Rangers support, the chief executive said: "We really need now to get behind the club because I think we can see both from what's been said by the SPL, what's been happening with the players, that really, really you need to unify and unite behind Rangers and let's now start moving this club forward.

"Stop the fighting, stop the disagreements, get behind the club — irrespective of whether I'm CEO, whether I'm not CEO. This is about Rangers. It's much bigger than Charles Green."

Think the Celtic Directors must be hiding in the same place as Neil Doncaster and Chick Young.

As for SPL dead? non-old firm teams will have far higher attendances than last season. Don't think it would be a good PR move from Sky. Ehh we no longer wish to show the SPL now that the corruption and systematic cheating has been stopped. May reduce but won't cancel deal.

Raith Rovers have joined Falkirk in voicing their opposition to newco getting into the First Division. Good to see, let's hope the rest follow suit and put up a fight against the corruption.

It must be in the interest of all the League 3 teams to make sure new rangers start in the 3rd division.
They well get two well attended home games & even a tiny bit of TV money.

Surely the place in the SFL must be open to applications from anybody. There should be a 'tendering' process like the ones that admitted Inverness and Ross County, and then Annan and Elgin.

It might well be a formaility that the new Rangers would be admitted but at least let there be an open and transparent process.

Was it on this thread or another that somebody told how Airdie United are actually Clydebank. I don't have time to re-read it all, apologies.
Well East Sirling were at one time merged with Clydebank Juniors. The senior team Clydebank can be traced back to that, although ES Clydebank as they were known, only lasted a season before it collapsed, and Clydebank by their own right entered the League.

Rangers buying a franchise (for the want of a better term) could happen.

wallace move to sevco most likely to ensure that hearts either get paid or rangers can sell him on and pay hearts imo ,football  debts will not disapear like the 9m in unpaid paye and vat which led to rangers going into admin and being in the process of liquidation .

so far the big tax bill has NEVER been revealed .

sfa will make sure all football debt is cleared imo ,although noone has mentioned the 3.4m due to rangers from other clubs .

wallace money still not overdue and jelavic money still not overdue . hth.

If , as I posted on 19th June , Club 12 will be training at Canperdown Park ( or somewhere close ). They will have to re-draw the S.P.L. fixtures . Dundee F. C. and Dundee United F. C. cannot both play home matches on the same day . I wonder how much it cost the S.P.L. to get the league fixtures drawn ( by that Canadian company ).

I'm actually worried about him. Rumour is that his contract hasn't been renewed by the BBC either. Jim Traynor also seems near to having a breakdown given his recent articles. Clinging on to  his idea that the SFA, SPL and diddy clubs will still take it up the arse and allow Sevco to be voted in to SFL 1 (although even he has now accepted they won't get in the SPL).

Chic Young has disappeared.

His exclusives were that all the chairman won't and can not have "Rangers" playing anywhere but the SPL.
