Certainly trying to be and good luck too, but you'll find trying to predict non-stationary processes with minimal occurrences (goals) is "impossible". Basketball is the kind of game that could support what you're trying to do but football never will.

Yeah, but pattern recognition is only useful in stationary processes, i.e. same players (and mental condition), same weather etc. Cannot be applied here. The fact that you have to make an adjustment for MF begs the question, what else may need an adjustment.

hmmmm Charlton, not trying to predict anything , just estimate probability , which i think is doable in any sport ; even with variations in team selection and other factors you say, it can be done with fair accuracty. And needs to be done to be succesful . Though not being done very well on this thread so far.

Started with 300 now has 223. Tobermory I hear you, you do need to estimate probabilities but given the structure of the problem, I am convinced "it cannot be done" (as they say). BUT good luck because the process of going through this will exntend your mental faculties and ward off dementia when you are ancient. Keep it up. Happy
