Difficult to believe - given India's performance with the bat - that the prices are almost back to where they began the day...

Crawley ffs
|
|
By:
ffs crawley just not good enough
|
|
By:
Creepy has already booked his ticket on the plane however he performed in this test.
|

By:
England love the combination more than Crawley specifically
Most 50+ run partnerships for the opening wicket against India in Tests 9 - Zak Crawley & Ben Duckett 8 - Gordon Greenidge & D Haynes 7 - Alastair Cook & Andrew Strauss 7 - Matthew Hayden & Justin Langer |

I wouldn't really criticise Zak for that dismissal, it was a cracking piece of bowling from Siraj.

You have to blame crawleys parents and coaches.
He should have been a bowler,he’s like harry maguire,no natural talent, but still finds a way to play. He’s just too tall,so he stoops, duckett highlights this more. Is he the tallest opening batter for England,no centre of gravity. Plus, message from brain to bat, must take longer than ducketts, fractions matter. There’s a reason George baker is a pundit now and not a jockey. |
|
By:
not good enough full stop
|
|
By:
Zak's parents and coaches are to blame for what exactly ?
To say he has no natural talent is ludicrous, it's why he got noticed at such a young age (representing Kent from u11 age group upwards). Amongst other tall players, Tony Greig was 6ft 6in tall and Kevin Pietersen was 6ft 4in - didn't seem to stop them averaging over 40 in Test cricket. And as for the ridiculous George Baker comparison - you know full well that it wasn't due to his height that he had to retire from race riding (after 18 years and 1300 plus winners). It was because of a bad fall at St Moritz of all places, which resulted in a severe brain injury and after a long recovery period and after extensive rehab he had to accept his days as a pro jockey were over. |
|
By:
Sorry, didn’t know that about George, but he was still tall for a jockey,so not a natural fit.
Yeah ,Zak at u 11 probably looked great, but growth spurt clearly made him less naturally an opening bat, gregg,Peterson, outliers over 40 years. White 100 metres sprinters, black swimmers, bulky marathon runners. Elite sport is so competitive, natural physique matters. Tall batters, worse center of gravity balance etc. Small goalkeepers, they might be great but physical statue hinders them. Crawley doesn’t look at ease at the crease, but he scores runs in spite of that,if he can overcome that and get runs fair enough,he ll be found out in Australia this winter,Indian attack weak,so he’s got away with it. |

Zak always stood out against his peers, he played for Kent 2nds at the age of 15 and then the first team at 19.
In any sport there will of course be those who do not fit the accepted stereotype physically but nonetheless excel. It's all about being good enough to adapt. Being 6ft 5 does not mean you cannot be a top batsman. I said after the third test he should be dropped and get back to Kent to get in form and recover his confidence. His shot selection is often not the best and is responsible for a number of his dismissals. But this ironically is why he is retained by the bazball management team - he plays in an attacking manner as this is what the team demands. Being tall he has a longer reach and often goes after wider deliveries that in days of old would be left alone, but that is bazball for you. Messing about with his guard doesn't help either. Remember as well that Zak was the top scorer in the series for England in the Ashes two years ago - and only just behind Khawaja overall. The Aussie bowling attack is still pretty much the same. |

Interesting that access to cricket is severely limited to ordinary kids now. It is competitive but overly heavy on public schoolboys. Paid for some private coaching from a couple of school teachers from my state school who were pretty good guys. I was a straight bat but nobody told me what leg spin was. Tbf nobody knew what leg spin was in the 1970’s.
Funny enough I do blame the coaches and parents. Zac is a big boy and a flat track bully. You get decent coaching at a young age and it takes you a long way. Would Nasser Hussein have ever played cricket let alone Captain England if it wasn’t for his dad? I was not tall enough or a natural fit for a fast bowler try though I did. I learned how to swing, seam, vary pace line and length and use the crease myself. Nobody even showed me how to spin the ball orthodox. Crawley has magnificent reach but he goes down the wicket rarely across. 5mm of grass covers his short comings and the sun came out for his 1st innings here. He has natural talent but he could be so much better. |

Can someone explain why Siraj is looking like a boxer face greased up to the max on a day like today? Wonder how much of that finds its way onto the ball??

I find that hard to believe |
|
By:
pope gone -same again. i still hold out that he and crawley are not up to it at the very highest level

|
By:
siraj is bowling well here
|
|
By:
Best outcome here i think is all out for under 250 , series 2-2 will be satisfactory for all , and it'll prevent Woakes hobbling in later on if it gets tight.
|
|
By:
It’s been a great series. Honours even. Both teams got lucky, both teams gave it away at times

Finishes his spell, walks off the field for a shower, massage and feet up for a while.
Umpires should make him stay on the field. Not England's problem if he has bowled for too long. |
