England captain Ben Stokes says his latest injury will not impact his participation in this winter's Ashes after he was ruled out of the fifth and final Test against India, which starts on Thursday.

Stokes misses out at The Oval with a shoulder problem, sustained during the draw at Old Trafford, with a tight turnaround of just four days between Tests.

But the all-rounder says he is only expecting to be sidelined for around six or seven weeks.

"It is one of those of weighing up the risk-reward, and the risk was way too high for damaging this any further than it currently is," said Stokes.

"I wouldn't expect to put any of my players at risk with an injury like this. Once this series is done I was feet up anyway - it doesn't really make too much difference to what I've got from the end of the series up until the winter."

Ollie Pope will lead the side in Stokes' absence while Jacob Bethell will bat at number six.

There are also three changes to the bowling line-up with quicks Jofra Archer and Brydon Carse, who has played all four Tests so far, also missing out alongside spinner Liam Dawson.

Seamers Gus Atkinson, Josh Tongue and Jamie Overton are included while Chris Woakes retains his place, meaning he will have played every Test of the series.

India to win and draw the series?

It does seem a series destined to end 2-2 Dragon but big question has to be how many overs will we get as it looks grim , may not turn out as bad though so lap of the gods but an abstain from me , for the time being anyway   ExcitedHappy

Gosh

Did anyone listen to TMS, Stokes and Agger’s?

Stokes said Brook had been practising, Aggers sounded incredulous and said something like “ really, it didn’t look like he had from what I saw “. I choked on my cream egg!

Stokes has kicked Dawson into the long grass. Let’s hope Bethell can bowl better than BrookLaugh

3 sicknotes and a 36 yo as your front line bowlers. I am trying  not to lay England.

Bumrah out. Which helps India, they’ve got the spinners to win the match,if the captain will bowl them, which he can now, given bumrah out.

Woke up this morning to see a beautiful Rainbow coming from Chelsea to Hyde Park, sunshine and an orange glow. No rain.

The rain has started and cloud is low over Chelsea and Battersea. It is not dark though and the cloud might move on.

India have said Bumrah is not playing. Wonder if that is a ruse. As I said all summer where there is rain there is cloud. The pitch is expected to be lively and bouncy. I would play him.

Really wanted I did to win the toss to keep the series alive. Might be over by lunch or tea.

It would have served England right had they lost the toss.

woakes and siraj to get 4 wickets each,20/1  worth a bet, they should get them by default, spinners wont in first innings,no bumrah, someones going to get them, these look most likely.

Wicket keeper to take a catch in all 4 innings @ 2.37 on sportsbook.
Hopefully weather stays away enough and England have a decent amount to chase.

No worries, it's still a decent bet if India don't get rolled

Woeful from Tongue. England wasting this

Can't see myself getting involved in this for a good while , if at all , it's the toughest of early calls this one for sure.

Yep I was toying with an India draw no bet but just not worth getting involved.

This toss might work against England. The ground is wet. If the lacquer comes off the ball will get soggy and soft.  NExt ten overs crucial

Typical of the series with not knowing what's happening next , biggest guessing test i can remember for quite a while given the weather will be the weather and whilst there was no chance of any declaration generosity in the last two tests in this one there will almost certainly be a carrot given a normal looking scorecard , draw no certainty until they shake hands.
By:
Hayden
When: 31 Jul 25 15:50
Regarding the run line you guys have backed , know it's a long shot maybe but if the weather is worse than anticipated then outside chance of India declaring before they hit that line given they have wickets intact , time of the essence for them.
