Great call , poor from Bairstow
By:
wouldn't even say it's unsporting - ball isn't dead..
England have often tried running out players who bat outside their crease by underarming ball at stumps...(as have other teams) ...Bairstow should have waited to ensure ball was dead.. |
By:
Probably most batsmen do what Jonnie did several times every innings and are not run out but technically they were in the right and it will change every batsman's behaviour for the rest of the series.
By:
just more shoddy play by England
By:
Foolish from JB, unfortunately.
Massive shame, spectacle-wise. Bairstow and Stokes coming out after lunch and anything can happen. |
By:
If he wants to go on walkabout that's the batsmans fault. Not very bright from Bairstow
By:
Bairstow clearly misunderstood the rule as he purposely tapped his foot behind the crease and looked at the umpire before moving up the pitch. Which is exactly the same as he does with the previous ball.
By:
if the keeper had already disposed of the ball it would be largely considered dead ball but he immediately underarmed it at stumps so clearly live still...
By:
would be quite amusing if it triggered a match winning innings from Stokes of course...

Stokes was strangely measured for Headingley 2019, this already looks more of a slog (but then perhaps that's what's needed if we're to get close enough to become measured?)

Broad just said, "Do you think that's out?" to Cummins there on that C&B

Broad questioning sportsmanship , i've heard it all now
By:
At least we can bed the notion of dropping Stokes.
He just needs no-one else to be able to do it but him. (and a bit of luck) |
By:
can't do this on his jack..tail too long hence the controlled aggression
Bairstow got a lot to answer for, muppet |

even the members kicking off lol

Scrap in the Long Room. Go on Usman

It would be very interesting to research the tapes of every test match in the past 5 years to see how many times a batsman has stepped out of his crease when thinking that the ball was dead and how many keepers have tried to run them out. I suspect that was the first in 10,000. After looking tired and right out of form, Stokes has caught fir when it is almost certainly too late.
By:
It was out Sageform. No question about it. Stokes coming back to haunt us again.

can't see this being Headingley deja vu all over again
even if,by some miracle,we could get close,he hasn't got his main man to hang tough with him..Leach and not forgetting there's no Lyon on the field to snatch defeat from the jaws of almost certain victory by fking up the runout ![]() |
By:
I see the argument that the keeper was in his rights but from Bairstow's point of view, the Umpire at the bowlers end had already stopped watching the play so that was his cue to walk down having already tapped his foot behind the line. I would blame the Umpire. Needless to say the commentators will not criticise an Umpire.
By:
I think they have every chance still. Green likely to concede 36 off his next over
By:
No leech, but got 4 bowlers to carry him, plus they ve all seen headingly. So know the script, just block and pinch singles.
Only way lose if is stokes gets out, At headlingly,he was close 3/4 times to be caught, plus lbw. It’s an impossible run chase,2nd highest ever, but the only way it could be done is if Ben stokes is at crease. |
By:
The 4.3 for England to win this Test is ridiculously short, I would of thought 8.0 or 9.0 would be around the correct price.
By:
On another point.
It’s about time the authorities clamped down on these MCC thugs, they form a group, just go to cricket to get pissed up,wear gang colours(their stripey ties).cricket has to rid itself of these animals.true cricket fans like the barmy army get tarnished by these trouble causes, what can you expect ,they’re on the wine and beer all day,I blame their upbringing and schooling. |

Bairstow needs shooting for giving his wicket away imho but it was also against the spirit of cricket. Bell was reinstated by Rahul Dravid. Bairstow was not seeking to gain an advantage or try and sneak a run so it is disappointing from Australia but equally disappointing from Bairstow.
I thought the Starc catch was grassed as he used the ball on the ground to balance himself stopping his fall. McGrath wanted Duckett to walk? WAC! |
By:
carey chanced his arm knowing bairstow walks out his crease quickly after just about every ball that he doesnt hit.broader picture shows umpire handing cap out and fielders walking to next positions.hard one to call but its out, bairstow unlucky, but dopey.carey, within his rights, lucky but could open a nasty can of worms though.
on a side note, typical spineless english commentators, never speak their mind, stay on fence and back the opposition. |
By:
I think the Umpires need to clamp down on intimidatory bowling too. There is a law fir that and the two bouncer rule does not apply.

It was out nineteen. Clearly out.
