Outdated that " It's not Cricket " bollox and so it should be , all this sporting gentlemen crap is best left in the last century.
In the modern game we want to see dog eat dog attitudes and win at all costs , that's what keeps fans interested in a dying format of the sport. Bring on more of the same in game 3. |
By:
To my thinking this is exactly the same as the running out of the non striking batsman who goes out of his ground..accepted protocol for this is swipe off the bails..there's your warning...next time you are out..where was the warning

Typical Aussies. Cheating ****, always have been.
By:
No cheating involved at all. Get over it and suck up the result. You,ve won 2 tosses and had the best of conditions for 2 Tests and it's 2-0 for the No.1 side in the world
By:
Hopefully next test mark wood with instructions of beamers at the head
By:
well didnt england benefit by umpire mistake during their world cup win
By:
There's no way Australians would have accepted that against them as cricket..no point trying to justify it with History..yeah we will suck it up..but you opened the portal..good luck at leeds
By:
We’ve had some luck past few years lets be right
2019 World Cup springs to mind, T20 World Cups, Ashes where Stokes went nuts and we got the win out of nowhere (2019). Weve been on the right end of calls before this one just went against us, Carey not to blame in the slightest hes doing his job and trying to win a test match Move on to game 3 and use this as motivation |
By:
Pomms should have won the first test and could quite easily have won today. They are still in this series make no mistake.
By:
When all said and done we deserved to lose taking the test as a whole
Fair play to Stokes esp who made it closer than it should have, with any luck we drop Anderson and bring in a competent spinner Headingley we need some genuine pace as well so for me Anderson rested and find someone quicker… I know its hard because we aint got one fit and available but still |
By:
Anderson out spinner in, Robinson out quickie in should have read
By:
Anyone else think Robinson is vastly overrated?
Tongua at least takes a few wickets Its the bowling that needs a rejig |
By:
Agree TMB
England can be brilliant and then undisciplined and make bad choices - they get themselves into strong positions and then blow it we dont have long to wait |
By:
We should not let one decision overshadow a wonderful test. I don't agree with win at any cost but it's done and dusted. Roll on Thursday and none of this "cheat" narrative from the pissed-up chavs at Headingly please. It's not British.
By:
Good luck with that project U.B.
By:
difficult to assess bowling performance with the dead pitches we have suffered for the first two matches.....both teams resorting to bodyline and bouncers to try and take wickets.....
By:
Its in Leeds UB
![]() Theyll be pi33ed up and loud and I cant wait Thats why we need fast vicious beasts Winja Bodyline, bouncers and head rockers ![]() |
By:
I can see them keeping it dead wicket wise though
I wouldnt trust our lot to stay in long on a lively bouncy wicket… |
By:
So we now have a cricket version of the "Hand Of God"? You want to hear yourselves - it's pathetic. Bairstow himself has done this in the past. You're in grave danger of losing the next one too because A) This Bairstow injustice bowlucks and, B) Stokes's magnificent effort will totally obscure and filter away the real subject matter of why you are two down - England's undisciplined bowling and fielding which cost so many runs. Great player, k rap Captain - that's about the size of it from where I am viewing.
The "spirit" of the game? I ask you. English bowlers go out of their way to bowl overs and overs and overs/shed loads of body hitting bouncers and you talk about Oz disrespecting the "spirit" of the game. No wonder they call you whingeing poms! |
By:
The Australian decision to claim Bairstow's wicket was certainly disappointing, the behaviour of those MCC Members was utterly disgraceful.
By:
Great game of Test Cricket, utterly absorbing.
Bairstow is an idiot, Carey was within his rights, Umpires should have called over and also should have asked Cummins if this is really how they want to play the game.MCC members were outrageous to call Khawaja a cheat and they were also utterly outrageous to call the Cheat Warner a cheat. McGrath is plank for suggesting any Englishman should walk when they play against a team that has cheating in its blood, head butt that line! Oh and btw, England themselves have form for this type of dismissal. Boo the Aussies by all accounts but time to move on particularly for the players to engage the brain. Stokes should have seen the Aussie plan and started milking singles as Broad was in by then Can’t wait |
By:
Good post Whispering Death, your last point particularly,I was hoping Stokes would do that when the off side bowling made run scoring difficult,England still have a fair chance if they can tighten up they are surely going in with 2 maybe 3 fresh bowlers Thursday,I'm not sure Australia can, certainly Hazelwood and Green seem just ok,Carey looks world class to me arguably the difference in the teams his work to get rid of Duckett superb,I have no problem with his noticing and executing Bairstow but it may be a poisoned chalice he is going to get a reception like no other at Headingly,he may rise to it but I seem to remember the crowd got to Mitchell Johnson here so much he was below par.

By:
where does ben stokes rank in top 10 greatest english cricketers of all time?
By:
would be a real struggle to make a case for him as top 10 imo...though very difficult to compare eras..
he's also an allrounder that's had to limit his bowling and his practice of bowling to manage injury in recent years.. he's certainly played two of the most incredible innings you could ever wish to see from an England test cricketer... his white ball record (which carries more weight in this era) is good but unspectacular.. |
By:
It's never going to be dull with Stokesy we at least have that
By:
No way Stokes gets in the top 10 either as a batsman or as an all rounder but I cannot recall 3 better inning given the circumstances. I’be seen a few great innings including his double hundred in South Africa but it does not compare. He is up there in the Pantheon for me though. I cannot fathom a word suitable.
By:
AsJay,
I thought a lot if the cricket was brainless. To hit a batsman in the head with a cricket ball is extremely difficult. How many times was a helmet hit? Never turn your back on a gun or a cricket ball. I just don’t get how a professional cricketer cannot evade a cricket ball. I also think maybe some of these guys should play tip and run with kids on the road. Broad was in for more than 90 minutes. Australia changes their approach. It really was time to milk singles and bring the field in before launching a fresh assault. I am sure this will haunt Stokes for a while. |
By:
made a mistake in becoming becalmed when it got down to about 80 to win. perhaps stokes should have told broad to have a dip and if he got out then he would take over. allowed australia to regain a measure of control when they were losing their heads
By:
Foakes should come in for Pope unless they think Reggie can bat and that allows them to play 4 seamers excluding Stokes. I guess Woakes would have to bat at 8 as our tail is far too unproductive. Broad, Tongue and Wood does not fill me with confidence to make any contribution with the bat.

Bring it on Thursday

By:
good win for the scots today i Wcup qualifier v zimbabwe
By:
Word on the grapevine is the MCC members are heading to Headingley to lead the Yorkshire folk into a fight…
I wish I could go on Thursday its going to be amusing for the first day at least |
By:
ive got no problem at all with the run out, but i do with injuries, Pope having to come on with dis shoulder, a great like lyon having to limp on in obvious pain , , this has to ne looked at
By:
Just sat through 5 hours of the Bodyline film currently showing on you tube. What a great programme which I haven't seen for years. Gets the blood boiling even more for the next 3 tests.
By:
Great series, dreadful cricket!
By:
back in the day, draws were very common in test cricket.........we are surely due a draw. the first 2 tests reached the 5th day. thunder and lightning due on saturday, mist on sunday and showers due monday. ive backed the draw at 7/2 in the bookies. england might not be satisfied with a draw though and that is against my bet.

By:
Just a thought on the Starc non catch. The law and decision are totally correct.
If Starc had turned his hand so as not to ground the ball there is a possibility that he may have overbalanced. If he had been near the boundary he may well have fallen into the boundary. |
By:
i may be wrong on this but is there not something in the law which says to make the catch valid you have to be in control of your actions enough to be able to throw the ball onwards? just thinking about catches lost when ball caught but dislodged when elbows hit the ground and bounces out?
By:
only thing with that bdj is you really need plenty of that rain, otherwise grey skies and intermittent showers are usually right in the bowlers favour @ Headingley...only 1 draw in the last 22 at this venue...
By:
i hope it doesnt set brooks back being put in at 3 like it has others promising young players.
