Stokes knee has upset the balance of this team. We need 5 bowlers. We also need a wicket keeper. Not sure where we go from here.

The match situation is quite exciting
By:
been a bit untidy hasn't he JB...can't see them changing it though...hopefully improves as the series goes on.
By:
He has been rubbish!
By:
prior to the series only kept in 2 first class matches in the last 10 months...
he's not a natural keeper but tough for anyone when you have had so little game time doing it...the concentration required as much as anything... |
By:
the difference with carey has been stark. performed his job with minimum of fuss hardly making a mistake. you can't have a keeper having 4 or 5 missed chances in a game

Boring, Boring, Aussies...

Might sell my Old Trafford first day ticket if this carries on.
By:
lol...can't make this stuff up though the onus was on Oz to move the game on...

What on earth is Green thinking of. I would drop this guy and bring in Marsh. He's simply not good enough and not the brightest.

Brains Trust not doing well over the last 2 days.
This is good from England as they were staring down the barrel I cannot believe everybody is hooking and pulling in the air, just so dumb. I understand Lyon is injured but Aus are taking their foot of the England neck. All 3 results still possible but Aus rightly heavy odds on. |
By:
creditable effort from Stokes to bowl a stint but must be absolutely wrecking his knee..
By:
This game should have been out of reach by now and we have been pathetic
By:
Some of the commentary are really attempting to flipping have their cake and eat it now.
A couple succumb to short leg and we're back round to, "at least if you hit a few to the boundary, the bowler will be dissuaded from bowling short". My gosh. Just, my gosh. |
By:
going to be entertaining stuff in the 4th inns anyway...Aussies steaming in with plenty of short stuff ...Eng presumably taking it on...
By:
Yup, for sure. If I were a betting man (
) I'd not be going anywhere near England at 3/1, mind. |
By:
In a similar vein to the way Cummins has shaped in his ten deliveries faced...I think several of the England batters will attempt to get way outside leg and ping the short stuff straight/into off.
By:
Who the heck knows how that will go, but hopefully they can pull out the miracle.
By:
logic says no apt' ...does seem to be some slightly more perceivable inconsistency off the pitch when banging it in now as well plus 8-10mph quicker ....though maybe just brainwashed by the comms...
By:
I think the comms have brainwashed themselves, never mind anyone else.
By:
They were probably soaking up the forum earlier

might need to go even harder early doors if they pitch it up for 5-6 overs...

We are going to try to SMASH IT, I'd be astonished to see anything else.
Ability-to-face-short-stuff aside, I would point to what has happened to both us (day three) and Oz against the short stuff when they've not gone hell for leather. They've scored nothing and all gotten out. It's a ginormous over-simplification as it's not all been short and not all the identical approach but it's something like 120 all out between the two teams. |
By:
Credit must go to Australia when they were really under it on the wrong side of 180/1 late on day two...
Whether or not they thought the pitch was perhaps a tad inconsistent, or whether they were just 'trying something different'...(I hugely favour the latter)...they hit on a great tactic that has unsettled almost every batter since. |
By:
If Ollie Robinson has troubled established batters with predominantly short bowling at sub 80mph, I'm with you brentford...
Crank this up to Hazlewood & Cummins, never mind Starc speed, and it is gonna be a lot more difficult. Or maybe it just flies further, faster ![]() ![]() |
By:
Pathetic. Doesn't need to play at that. Brain dead and we are going to lose this game
By:
fair play Gary...
By:
Did not expect us at 2/1, chasing 350+.
By:
I agree, it's 361 to win and I wouldn't want to be on at 2/1 either.
By:
Seen it all now. No 11 bat can't walk never mind run so can only hit boundaries! England are 20/1 with me to score 360 so why are they staying out there? It is either Aus or a draw.
By:
And Stokes can't walk either. Surely he can't play in the next match.
By:
shot Gary

It ain't gonna be a draw.
By:
This could still be a draw!
By:
My book is nice enough on Australia, it won't be a draw.
We'll go 2 down methinks. |
By:
Nobody happy!
I love this game Stan. I found it extremely enthralling, dumb, but enthralling nonetheless. Try My Best might be p*ssed by the Australian batting but I know which side I would rather my money was on. England do need to play their shots and start fast against the new ball. As they say that is their way but when Aus revert to banging it in short they really must have a better plan. They can hit the short ball but keep it down ffs. Personally I like to hear a couple go past my left ear before playing aggressively. Get in before picking up the gauntlet. |
By:
I reckon market has the draw correct.
But I'd be 1.22 Aus 5.5 Eng, or something like that. |
By:
Back to the glory days sippy?
30/3. 40/4. Love to see the Bazball Entertainers not playing to win! Banging it in short to entertain the crowd! |
By:
I don't fully disagree WD but Cameron Green was the closest to that approach...
Nothing off 20, followed by 2/3 in the air through the fielders, followed by out for 18 in two hours. Granted, I've no idea of the optimal approach but I'm more than happy to see us go down in a blaze. |
By:
If a couple of our top four get going as they can...I can *really* see Australia getting spooked again, and pretty quickly.
Do they have the cahoonas to carry on bumping if we're 80/1 off 12? |
