at the rate he's scoring he's a long way to go apt'

I know Robinson has a modicum of potential with the bat but surely 5% is printing money here on Australia?

apt' resorts to forum curse to try and get England out of a hole...
Lyon going to be a real handful with the newer ball if last evening was anything to go by... |

Clearly I was wrong anyway...it's almost 7% now

must admit 14/1 draw as an outright bet feels pretty terrible with Broad and Anderson following plus a floodlit final session...

It's absolutely grim (keep on with the curse)!

id that hasn't got the betting and cricketing gods attention...nothing will

Woakes was 17s for top bat overnight, with very possibly only 34 (curse myself) to beat.
England are 14s to pull this off! Give it a rest. |
|
By:
It’s probably been the Aussies taking their foot of the gas knowing its done
Conserving energy for the next beat down |

For the record...I can't even claim credit for getting near with the fun bet.
I just plagiarised Ed Hawkins' bet for something to wake up to. Fade almost all of his stuff but this one looked ok. |

Love me a Jamieson/Jadeja/Holder type punt in limited overs and this felt similar.

yep Eng's batting lends itself to considering some of the less usual suspects..

Talk of resting Starc for round 3 of the torture
They could rest Lyon as well? Maybe even give Smith, Warner and Labuschagne a rest too And they have to play only 3 bowlers... give us a chance of avoiding the whitewash |

They should be handicapped and be forced to play Michael Beer and the 2010/11 version of Johnson

They still took their foot of the gas thats not pedalling backwards, old ball they were waiting for the new ball maybe ?

sharp catch again from Smith...

What a shower of S**t our test team has become. Have England EVER been worse???
|
|
By:
Are you doolally?
|
|
By:
Yes they have. A lot worse!
Any idea why we have a Barmy Army? |
|
By:
Beggars belief that Livingstone, Bairstow, Roy, Hales can't get in before the chumps they are using up front. Selectors should be given their cards imvho.
|
|
By:
Hayles and Roy have both had opps and done worse than the current incumbents dd..
Bairstow may well come in but his overall record and last Ashes tour suggest he's an unlikely solution.. Livingstone in this form of the game..I'd be surprised if he offered a lot tbh... |
|
By:
It would help to have a wicketkeeper. Foakes surely.

Target 468....achieved 182...... but went down FIGHTING
![]() ![]() . Stop making excuses. The top four should be scoring 180 plus in any test match. |
|

One of the Aussie commentators said plenty of positives for England. What are they? I can't think of any. They have been hammered again, but this time by a depleted side. In that respect it is probably a step backwards from the first test.
Yes, this time Buttler stuck around, but he should have been out for nought, and had they taken that catch the game would likely have finished much sooner than it did. If you are serious about winning games you can't be cheering top scores of 44. |
|
By:
I'd have expected it to be done before lunch when Stokes was out to be honest...so they deserve a bit of credit for battling hard but clearly they aren't good enough in these conditions with bat or ball ...equally true though is that we aren't leaving out a bunch of world beaters that can just come in and change it all..
Foakes is a better keeper but how many runs is he going to make ?... Bairstow, Lawrence, Crawley, ...yep can switch the chairs around and may well do but don't hold your breath for improvement.. |
|
By:
We’ll likely bring Bairstow in for Pope, Wood and Overton will likely come in for Broad/Anderson and Woakes
Bess or Leach will probably come in most likely Bess because why no lets just give them all a run out Can change most of the side it wont make a blind bit of difference because the replacements are no better in these conditions Its tbe most sobering looking squad we’ve ever taken to Australia And we had some sobering one’s in the 90s early 00s im assuming |

Dessie
I think we battled but part of that was the Aussies taking their foot of the gas I dread what the two rubbers are gonna be like, this side hasnt battled at any point really, awful body language and its been like that since the first ball I do feel a bit sorry for the likes of Hameed, it cant be pleasant experience this |

By:
gotta say that it's disappointing that neither pope or crawley have kicked on. after the south africa series a couple of years ago i was sure pope would get 100 caps and average nearer 50 than 40 and if you can make 250 you've gotta have something about you but he's hardly got a run since
|
|
By:
Absolutely mafeking.
I had high hopes for Pope. He has the talent fo sho like Butler but this is Test Cricket. Some of Butlers footwork both behind and in front of the stumps is simply awful. What are batting coaches for? There is talent there. Agree with others that any changes will not make a blind bit. I would hope Crawley gets a chance fir Burns and Hameed is retained. Hameed has what it takes and needs a run and coaching. Crawley needs to be let loose. Quite a few technical flaws but also has something to work with. Bstard should take the gloves and Pope needs to be dropped. No point playing Lawrence. He has skills and flaws like the rest. Give him a chance in the West Indies and plenty of coaching. Wood must play. I’d rather have Bess than Leach because of the left hookers but don’t think he is good enough either. Again give both a chance in the West Indies. Wood, Anderson, Robinson as the seamers. Stokes to support with a spinner. Wood, Bstard and Crawley in plus a spinner probably Bess. Burns, Broad, Pope and Woakes out. Butler probably bats in the last chance saloon. I think the side would be better balanced but the definition of madness is still the same. |

Joe Root criticised his team for “making the same mistakes” that led to failure in the first Ashes Test after they fell to emphatic defeat in the second match of the series. The England captain reserved particular criticism for the bowlers who allowed Australia to take control of the game in their opening innings, but he insisted that despite everything his opponents are “not that much better than us”.
Root said. “You have to be able to put the ball in the right areas for long enough, “If you look at the first innings in particular I thought we were just a little bit short with the ball, we didn’t challenge them enough,” Root said. “We need to be braver, we need to get the ball up there, and as soon as we did that in the second innings, the amount of chances we created and how dangerous we looked, that’s the benchmark for us moving forwards. We weren’t brave enough at times to get the ball up there and get them driving.” He is the Captain and the one who should be telling them to pitch it up! He has to go! |
|
By:
He is right in that the aussies don't have a great team. But the things he is complaining about don't make sense. Broad and Anderson have played how many tests in total? Who's job is it to tell them to pitch it up? I would think at that level bowlers should be able to figure out a few things themselves too.
I hope this ends 5-0. In the past, I've wished this upon teams hoping that this will make them think and change the way they go about business. But I've given up on those things. They never really happen. They will be back doing the exact same thing in about 4 years time. |
|
By:
Someone has to yell pitch it up Dumbo!
It was obvious to everybody except the bowlers! Stewart Clark suggested straighter extra cover and mid off. Make them drive squarer through cover to induce an edge. |
|
By:
you'd have to think root might chuck the captaincy in after this series. he's done it for a long time now without looking like winning a major series and silverwood must be on very shaky ground as coach
|
|
By:
I very much doubt either will go.
|
|
By:
I suppose that is the difference between an aussie supporter and a pommy one. We would never want our team to lose 5-0 to anyone or anywhere.
