It really makes me laugh when former players talk about the pace of previous bowlers. THEY were not quicker at all, just played on ropier & sometimes uncovered pitches. When a pitch is difficult, like this, everything happens much quicker and therefore the bowler is deemed to be rapid. If you put today's quicks on 1960's 1970's pitches, Boycott, Chappell et al wouldn't get a run.

Reminds me of that vid they made where they filmed all the quick bowlers and everyone was 90mph+! Yeah right

I've played to a fairly high standard and on a poor pitch everything feels rapid, especially when it jumps off a length

It's utter crap, the WI bowlers were not quicker, they just played on decks that looked like corrugated iron!

exactly, there are loads of stories that are embellished over time. Once heard a story where WG Grace was batting and they ran 3 before the catch was taken. Absolute unadulterated bolloxs

That youtube vid isnt the one I thought it was, there was fast bowling comp and all the quick were bowlers were filmed at 90mph+ and Thommo at 100mph, need to find it
