Laying Eng is a long term trade. Trying to short term trade them is an exercise in futility. They don't move!!

fine 100 from trott in the 50 over game he still has desire to play for his adopted country

Hales is a good batsmen just don't feel he's really an opener.
I remember seeing somewhere that for Notts he averages 35 as an opener and 50+ batting in the middle order, it's obvious that we're trying to manufacture a partner for Cook because there's no real alternatives.

If Vince fails in this Test he will have to go, lets see what he does here, with England under a bit of pressure.

much harder for cook average 50+ when you open the batting than down at 3,4 and 5. always face the new ball, the best bowlers, less chance of getting a not out. you never get to come in at 200/2 against the the old ball and tired 3rd/4th string bowlers

hardly anyone in modern times anyway averages over 50 opening. they're all middle order players

Good point, I remember an interview with Atherton and I think he said that opening the batting takes about 5 runs off your average.

cook only played 32 20 20 games the guy must hate that format

Hayden, Warner opening bats who average 50+ along with a mega impressive strike rate Sehwag in same vein but he dropped under 50 in his last few tests.

Warners average is boosted by his stats in Australia, playing on complete roads. His record in Asia is pretty dire, unlike Cook who seems to thrive there.

Can't compare Warner with cook. Also, you can't really talk about aussie batsmen these days as they're playing on flat tracks at home for a few years now. Clueless abroad.

Wait till the end of the innings, from the bowling conditions, I would guess that Pakistan, would be in more trouble than England are.

it's a mean old price on england given they were 1.6 90 minutes ago. about right if one of Cook and Root were still there.
