My guess is its all to do with Hales. If he gets out draw will come in. Also run rate is a lot better  than the last match

Might be cause Hales looks like he'll get out every over

I'm definitely looking to keep the draw onside.

Dangerous time to bet

Draw and Englabd set to fall. Will a wicket change things? SA being batted out of match today I think is all I know but it is a good pitch and will suit SA batsmen. I do think the pitch will wear though and there is a lot of round the wicket bowling

Here we go!

Hales is not going to be our Warner or Sehwag is he?........Prob better not to try to be either, these 2 could get bogged down here.

76-1 at Newlands and Vaughan is carping on about Compton's scoring rate!

I wonder if Root, Taylor and Barstad would rather have Bellend back so they could all bat before lunch!

It is hot, batting is going to get easier. There is considerable wear and tear on SA bowling resources already. Morkel is their only wicket taking bowler. Get him in the sick bay and this series is all but over!

I am not a Compton fan btw but he makes it easier for our batters who don't play 5 day Test Matches

Bayliss was on about Compton's scoring rate before the game too. Why keep piling pressure on the number 3 ffs. The only pressure should come from a lack of runs. As Geoffrey always says, you can't make runs in the dressing room.

They know what type of player he is, not much point playing him and then complaining about his rate

I backed SA at 5.2 and their price is down to 4.0 despite not taking a wicket and conceding a few runs

Jesus wept - 2,4,5,6,7,8,9 all play shots.

Not sure I understand what happened there but I jumped at laying SA at 3.95 and 4 Cool

Yeah I was surprised at Bayliss too but maybe it was said for a reason.

We were saying how dumb it was giving Hales a baptism of fire with no warm up in Dubai but now look at it. He has a super chance to cement his place and good luck to him. I am not convinced he is the answer but he will make some decent scores

They are really concerned about Cook and Compton being at the crease at the same time and getting bogged down.
That should be the least of our worries. Bogged down at 100/1 is better than 30/3 in my book.

I know!

Wait till they go to Aus!

Does anyone have any session wicket breakdown for Newlands, does it swing after tea?

Cook was scoring as quickly as Hales so the concern re Compo and Cook together is unfounded.

I've no idea where this 'bash the blocker' attitude comes from, but it sure is ignorant.

As juce says the rest play shots so what exactly is the problem?? The first session is all about damage limitation.

Its the T20 age. Slow runrate is equated with getting bogged down whereas if it was Kallis or Dravid a few years ago, you'd be saying he's getting his eye in better get him out quickly or it will be too late...

Hales gets 10 off the previous over and Compton tries to dance down the pitch. If its the admin telling him to score, its quite pathetic.

draw pretty skinny now at 3 for a ground where results vs draw is a ratio around 5:1

That was a terrible shot from Compton. I' d rather he played his game and got a slow hundred and et the rest have a bottom hand thrash. You can see how Hales plays. He could be out anytime and give SA a sniff
