No Steyn here. Philander injured. Kallis, Smith and Boucher retired.

it is a road but if root had held onto that catch we would be in a very good position now. they still have to bat out tomorrow, an early wicket and we may be in. all told though getting 20 wickest looks like hard work.

It will get swept and rolled again. I don't know if people are forgetting but we are only at the end of day 2. They still need another 300 odd to avoid the follow by the end of day 3 it is quite conceivable that they will be all out but still 200 behind. If that is the scenarios then England are still very much the most likely result imho

People assume Cook would not set 450 on this wicket but I think he would in little over 3 sessions, even 420. The pitch is the key to this game and the beauty is nobody knows if it is the right key.

I am still heavy green The Draw with equal green SA. Smaller red now on England and I will continue to consider whether to green out overnight or buy chunks tomorrow. I would like a large win! I do have a little confidence in the next three on this pitch tomorrow but would want Amla and AB to do the heavy scoring. Might be an idea to green first and get back on the draw after half an hour or so as a precaution. I fact that is what I shall do, Laythe draw for now.

I am keeping SA inside as I bought cover at 42 and 38

450 runs and 3 wickets on day 2. (2 of them run outs)

Will  be hard work to get 20 wickets.

fair old drift on the draw last few hours

Have still got a big red on the draw. Not too worried at the moment as games often look like draws after two days but open up on days 4 and 5.
Cook will have to bat again, it's too much toil under hot conditions to enforce the follow on if available.

Remember England don't need to win here. If SA pass the follow on target, i.e. still batting close of play tomorrow. 200 behind. They get bowled out the morning of the 4th day, cook would want lead of 400, which say takes us to tea on day 4. SA have 4 sessions to save the test.

True, there's always a worst case scenario at this stage of a game.
I'm not prepared to level up yet though.Happy

While the draw could go quite a bit shorter, I still think Eng win from here.

I'm a lot less confident in the England win than I was and went well overboard on laying the draw during the Stokes Bairstow partnership, starting at 3.5 when I had loads of draw green and continuing down to 2.6 so am now very red on draw but three days is a very long time and SA are still miles and miles behind. If England had 520 and SA 30/2 at close day 2 I think the market would look very different and it's the same match state.

Was Laying the Draw at 1.72 just before Stumps and now it's trading just below Evens.

root's drop on 5 will go down as the most expensive dropped catch in the history of cricket. how are they going to get him out now he's settled on this wicket?

abcd villiers could go for world record 400 as all they are doing is batting to save the match.

both test matches r going to finish draws. how boring. this one because nothing in it for the bowler and in aussie cos of the rain.

When: 04 Jan 16 09:35
if england want to win they have to somehow get rid of de villiers and amla then they have a chance. they r the 2 best and most capable sa batsman. i reckon they coud both bat all day today and tomorrow. only 3 wickets fell yesterday and 2 were run outs.

lol and I was keeping faith reading your comments :D Glad I didn't put too much money on England. Its the Aussie win I am desperate for. And not laying the draw anymore.
I sill think there is a hell of a lot of cricket to be played. If Eng can get SA under pressure on the last day, could be fun.

I thought test match betting was easy because the odds move so slow. Hell you need too much patience.

Gayle, Pollard and Russell should be playing for the Windies test team, not some crash bang wallop T20.

I have just cleared my England red for expediency. We are still not halfway through this Test Match. I would not despair just yet as an England backer. I shall try and be patient before I take advantage of the England price and hope these two bat on

Yes, before this match SA hadn't scored above 250 in 9 innings!
