A shame Taylor not given a chance much earlier. Still think Compton should have been given a run as opener as I was convinced he had the Test class. I think with Compton opening with Cook and Taylor in the middle order, Eng would have been a stronger side over the last couple of years. Appreciate he is 32, but I would go with Compton for the SA tour. I think giving Bairstow the gloves is the right way forward too, giving the opportunity to play an extra bowler.

I was confused by the lack of spin today. I heard it started to turn more sharply later in the day..
The 'official' view is that the pitch was tacky yesterday morning, hence Moeen turning it sharply before lunch. This makes no sense to me. If it was gripping that much, Jimmy and Broad would have seamed it all over the shop. They didn't. I wonder if their tweakers were rolling it out for the first session or so and not trying to rip it. That also makes no sense, but I'm at a loss to figure this one out. |

Draw looks too short to me & Pak look too big...........unless one believes Eng will bat all day tomorrow i can't see why its so short.
|

By:
think Eng will have absolute minimum 50 lead, more likely 70+ so liable to get a bit skinnier then you just know Pak will lose one or two earlieish wkts so Eng will contract further
Pak up against it imho unless they blow Eng apart in last inns which is not beyond the realms of possibility laid Eng last night ..taped the cricket..did not watch it live so was unable to trade out when the graph shows they touched 2.3 + i assume when Root was out if i cash out which i think i'll do will lose 15% which ain't too bad don't trust Pak to get off to a good start in their 2nd inns altho' they have some fine batsmen cue 350+ and skittle Eng out for |

less than 200 to win by 50/60 runs

basically,Pak didn't score enough runs batting 1st which ultimately could prove their undoing esp if Eng get anywhere near a 3 figs 1st inns lead

Tough to call Johhny
Can see both scenarios. England could bat on for a decent lead and Paks may crumble with the pressure or England lose one and then the rest and Pak buoyed go and bat in a similar manner to the first innings making Broad and Anderson work but going after the spinners. The pitch is an unknow. Will it get slower and lower? Will, it spit? I think the likes of Azhar, Shaoib, Misbah, Younis could make a big innings or form a big partnership. The bottom line is nobody knows for sure. Would you rather back England or Pakistan to win from here? Would you prefer to back England or Pakistan at current prices? I'd rather be on Pakistan at 5.5's than England at 1.55. I wouldn't back England at 1.55 from here but would back pakistan. I will gamble what I can afford to lose but not my full match bet. I am 30% exposed on England. I am happy with that for now. I think the bottom line is to gird your lions and reduce liability. |

By:
Haven't had a single bet today, mostly because the only thing I've been tempted to do at any point was back Pakistan but that's already where I have most of my green. Perhaps I should have offloaded some of my draw red (which is huge) when wickets fell but I really didn't expect England to put together partnerships so competently after either the third or fourth wickets. Course it could still all end in a rush.

|
By:
yes England and the pitch played well. Pakistan gave up important wickets yesterday. We have been wrong so far. Maybe a 75 run lead might not be enough when batting last. Can't call this at all.
|
|
By:
When it's hard to call the best bet is a no bet.
The pitch is turning but all the while the bounce is consistent, the turn is less of an issue. I used to like spin when batting. Creates angles for shot making and reduces the chance of being LBW or bowled. If Shah could bowl a slider he'd be different gravy.. |
|
By:
sage advice as ever. I hope you are imparting this onto your son!
never batted against anyone who could spin a ball. I guess thats tells you enough about the standard I played to! I found quick bowlers much easier. No time to think. Never rubbed a hit once ( thanks to Brian Close ) but again to be fair I never played against 7ft West Indians! ![]() |
|
By:
I would always rub a hit! If it hurt I wanted to make it better!!
Never understood the 'I'm tough, that didn't hurt thing'. Quite liked it if a bowl tried to hurt me again. It meant he wasn't aiming at my stumps.. ![]() |

Still 3 days to go and a draw looks unlikely, although the draw will go a fair bit shorter if England bat 50ish overs today, which I think they could well. In the last match here, Pakistan scored 259 2nd innings and with only Shafiq going big. In the 2 previous matches seamers were taking wickets right to the end.
I think Stokes bowling (absence of) could well determine the result and I'll continue to look to back Pak as they go bigger while Eng bats today. |
|
By:
i don't think Stokes bowling will make too much difference, its his batting that might, because he's capable of scoring quickly, even on this surface. I think England may well get a 100 plus lead tomorrow and Anderson could take some more wickets 2nd time around, which would help the others. However anything over 120 may see England struggle 2nd time around, as they are so good at collapsing, although I do think the change of management, seems to have made them a much more determined side.

The shorter England get I will be laying them. Pak can produce batting like above, from nowhere.England's spinners bowled poorly in the first innings & they can't keep expecting Jimmy & Broad to bail them out. |
|
By:
I agree jucel. If Anderson and Broad don't take wickets with the new ball, I can see England's spinners getting smacked around and Pak putting on runs quickly. Which is why I'll look to back Pak rather than lay England. Although with Pakistan there is always the risk they bat too long. But should be enough time left for that not to occur.

tough game to call form here

on over 283.5 another 33 would be nice

By:
I have been strong on pakistan all match. They missed a chance to almost win the match y throwing wickets away and not being patient. I have lacked conviction at times not smashing Paks at 5.5+
A bit of caution is ok. I wouldn't want to be batting last I see England at odd on as like a backside in the air, rude not to |

tough pitch to read too. Seems to go lively, then flat, then lively

had a big sting in nfl earlier. The overtime killed me

Managed to lay the draw for a bit before the first wicket, but once again just missed on laying it for rather more.

The draw lay is back in the ball game folks...specially for anyone looking to shore up a bad position

too greedy
went for 3.95 and 3.55 draw lay but did get some at 5's to help reduce England red |

why is draw dropping from 9s an hour go seems too short to me.
