Fifteen years on and Betfair still a joke of an exchange. Outage all afternoon - it's probably a kid in his bedroom DDOSing them.

cdog - I had a look over there too. It's incredible isn't it. Only 38k matched.

The market is back up and running, (only just noticed).

Are England worth a lay at odds on?

Is this pitch dead now? Do WI batsmen have the patience to hang around? Surely WI will only have to bat for a maximum of 2 days?

Think I shall have a punt against England

Not sure I could trust the WI batting...any views folks?

just covered with the draw, thinking chanderpaul, top batsmen, been a real class act for the windies for years, tends to hang around forever, saying that he probably goes out for a duck

Not that bad a lineup for wi. Holder at 8 and Taylor not too shabby at 9. Add to that braithwaite, bravo & shiv and should be competitive against England's attack on a flat pitch. Tredders shouldn't cause too many problems

Wouldn't mind having a bet on root getting 10k test runs. Getting better every game

He looks a class act, the only one that stood up in the WC too. Would prefer a bet on Shiv to be WI top run scorer in the series cannot see that option anywhere though.

Started on the England lay play 1.83 then 1.72 then thought again and bought out the 1.72 lay and backed the draw instead so I am hoping to benefit from the Root dropCool.

WI have 2 good batsmen and several mediocre ones. Samuels might have a majestic day in which case life is sweet or he might bat like a clown. Life is being throttled from this pitch but WI must put up a decent first innings total to force England to bat at least until tea day 4 ( beyond would be better ). The pitch might be spinning day 5 so I do hope for some rain Friday afternoon! I also think the draw must come in.

I'd say that was potentially a conservative estimate. Root wants to bat for a long time, something so very few cricketers can do these days.

Talking about "senior players" in the England camp at the moment .  Is Cook not the most senior ?

Both older and made debuts before Cook, though haven't played as many Tests. Quite.

Only 2 wickets in the last 80 overs. Indicates to me WI will get a decent 300+ score first bat, and draw will be around 1.5 day 3.

Juce,

The pitch looks like it will dry out and that spells trouble day 5. WI can bat like mugs and are masters of capitulation.

I am opposing England here but my big hope is that England bat way beyond lunch in posting 550. Both Stokes and Butler going early to the newish ball is more in the realms of sexual fantasy and perhaps too much to ask for but I sincerely hope WI can bat well in their first innings and occupy the crease for 4 and a half session so I can lay the draw price or back England.

The pitch should be easy to bat on and England have no spearhead as far as I am concerned. The bet is how long will the pitch last. At least I hope that is the bet. There is no point in doing the Rain Dance. I am happy to be sitting on a small loss at this stage of the game, end of Day 1.

Yeh I'm not on the draw for the whole game. Backed at 2.7 before the start. Looking for signs to flip it in the next few days,as and when it deteriorates.

WI now at 25. A big price with 4 days to go. 2 sub par teams and a wicket that could deteriorate early. Worth a punt considering I have decent green already.

If the wicket is going to deteriorate pretty strong argument England have enough already.

WI can collapse from anywhere - it won't need England to be particularly great.

To me the 2 main ways for WI to win this game would have been to bat first and put scoreboard pressure on England, or to skittle them. Neither has come to pass.

What can I say. I didn't expect this. I didn't really want Windies batting before lunch or even before tea! In mitigation i did take the opportunity  the get some WI back at 20 so am only exposed to England and I guess that therin is the problem.

I actually think the pitch is fine at the moment and there is no reason why WI cannot put up a decent score to give themselves a chance to win the game. It should be fine tomorrow and is showing no terrors as yet.  If Windies come in England must go out.

Lot of if's and but's but I think the prices are offering some opportunites here.

given that it's just turned to the beginning of the low season in the caribbean, you get the feeling that it's going to be a case of conditions being good for bowling when the cloud cover is in and good batting conditions when the sun is out.

it would probably be asking too much of Cook to recognise this and approach the windies innings accordingly.
By:
Whisperingdeath
When: 14 Apr 15 16:50
Yes I agree with that. I am hoping WI have the best of the conditions and if they can survive the couple of overs before lunch the pitch should dry and the sun come out this afternoon.

IF

If WI bat well today and most of tomorrow they could be in a position to put England under pressure. It looks like a sunny day tomorrow and the pitch might be benign again but a little faster and easier to play shots. If Windies sneak a lead on a decent batting pitch it might well be cloudy again on Thursday. They have decent bowlers in Taylor and Holder and might get lucky with the overheads.

England definateley in the box seat with runs on the board but there must have been plenty of money at odds on for England. With two days left and some sort of parity in the game I am hoping for a scramble to cover rather than having to do the rain dance.

I am still hoping England go odds against at some point to give me an exit.

I have a ribeye and some Convict Shiras and a claret so hope I haven't done my bo locks before I pass out on the sofa in a couple of hours.

By:

You are a brave man Injera although you are probably right on the final outcome. i just feel this is still a good batting wicket depending on the overheads and Windies should be able to post in excess of 400 here and that would invoke a huge balancing of the odds. Of course Anderson could swing it like a banana and WI could be batting for the second time before close!

Smith gone quel surpris!

But at least he lasted half an hour and that is quite important. Critical phase of the match now. can Anderson continue or will Windies attritional England out?

If the ball stops swinging...... Bravo is a good batsman. Like Shiv he can occupy the crease so is vital that he sticks around. I think Brathwaite can also stick around but if either falls Samuels comes in. Now he is extremely talented but has the brains of a rocking horse and that would bring Shiv to the crease fighting a rearguard again and looking for another red inker. England win.

cashed out after two days for the princely profit of three pound 40p

Big green on WI and the draw. Equal red on England.

West Indies cant win this but England have a good chance. Best to cut and run. Windies could be skittled at any time.

I cashed out too for a small loss around tea. Agree with your sentiments entirely Whispering Death, the game is too unpredictable at the moment. Should be an England win provided they declare their second innings in a timely manner, but they might be over-cautious and not leave enough time. If the draw goes odds on tomorrow morning though, I'll probably have a speculative lay of it, as things could change quickly once this partnership is broken.
