no. he was batting, last wicket, to save the match and the series and was bounced out.

And he could of just let it hit him. He didn't need to play it like that. Suppose it was just instinct

it's absolutely instinct/quick brain. most batting against pace is.

why don't they engage 20/20 mode?

last hour, minimum 15 overs, could be more if they push

test cricket is risk averse
By:

When: 17 Apr 15 21:16
but they'd lose for sure
By:

When: 17 Apr 15 21:16
avoid losing at all costs + they would never do it with the batting left in the shed
By:

it's a three test series wisewords

if they went for they would almost certainly lose the match, making a series win extremely difficult.

they have a reasonable chance of a draw here on a dead pitch. as sri lanka showed in the summer, just one dodgy match in a short series can be decisive.

thanks DStyle, that makes more sense now.

if the series score were 1-0 to england and this was the final match of the series i think you would expect them to go for it.

I think it's the best form of sport in the world. Amazing game full of nuances, skill, determination, concentration & grit. It has more variables than any other sport with the changing ball, pitch, weather, conditions.

In Test Cricket, you have to get the batsmen out, on ODI cricket you don't, although it helps.

back to the anderson wickets, in all truth if you were looking a batsman reaching total number of test runs milestone, we'd probably be looking at it combined with his average and number of centuries.

if we look at anderson's average and his 5 wicket hauls, it's not that great.

it's a still great achievement, but the seemingly endless hype seems to be presenting it as something much bigger than it actually is.

well said jucel, you can't beat 450 overs and 5 days of Test Cricket, although this pitch/strip, hasn't particularly helped anyone.
