I'm sorry I feel sorry for Lancs and the fans. It was a lot of water! These things happen. Sometimes people dont remember how it was. then we blame the groundsmen for dry wickets! C'est la vie. Hope they find a solution to that particular drainage problem. ECB or whoever charges them too much to stage a game. Investment in these grounds has to be huge. If anyone is to blame it is God for the rain and as usual The ECB for being so mean!

Sky Sports crew don't seem convinced this pitch will hold up with Sundays expected washout for Monday, understandably so. Drainage looks absolutely terrible. Any rain tonight and a possible delay tomorrow morning too. Draw will slowly fall tonight a couple of points, when play starts it will drift a bit again and then it all depends on Sundays forecast and how quick the wickets fall.

A hypothetical question, and someone correct me if I'm wrong please.
Ex-Hurricane Bertha messes up Sunday, and the drainage hasn't worked by Monday morning and the match is abandoned. Test Match End is still "Day 5 evening"...isn't it? |

ctd... fall, you need to have the right drainage in place. They obviously don't so they should play somewhere that does. It does tend to rain a lot in England so do the job properly

No excuse for this. OT have had a shocker. The part of any ground easiest to drain is near the boundary because it's near the main drains. They clearly have messed up the levels of that part of the ground. No way should water gather like that when everywhere else is playable. Levels all wrong and drains either damaged or non existent. |

Yes, because they have called play off, for the morning session, afternoon session and evening session. However I haven't read the betfair rules, but logic, says thats what it would be.

Well Edgbaston and Lords have it right. Edgbaston cover the whole ground, while the drainage at Lords is fantastic and they would have been playing at 5.30, had that happened at Lords.

Watkinson did his PR bit but they've cocked this up and he knows it. Nasser as is often the case was spot on. Nothing to do with relaying grass. All about drainage. Water gathers like that in heavy clay or no drains or wrong levels. |

An abandonment in cricket is described as 'abandoned as a draw'. So that would be 'unconditionally determined'. Result = draw If you're on the draw I suggest you be careful. The game is very well advanced.. |

The draw price at the start of the game, was 1.89, not because the wicket favoured batsmen, but the weather forecasts were bad, very bad. Match will be a draw, regardless of how much or how little play there is in it. The only case, where I could think of there being a refund, would be if the game was abandoned due to an unsafe pitch, as was the case in the West Indies a few years back.

Are we going to get more rain tonight because if we do then tomorrow's play is in serious doubt. That area was like a bog and has been made worse by the super soppers. How it will cope with Sundays rain is anyone's guess and must put Mondays play in doubt. We no how fussy they are at test level.

Lets assume we get a full today of play tomorrow - England will likely bat until mid afternoon (unless bowled out before) so will have an advantage of around 175 - 225. India might well lose 3 - 5 wickets before the close and still be 75 behind. Less than likely a full day required to finish the test and there is the possibility of 2 days without the projected weather forecast - I doubt the conclusion will be a draw

on the other hand india may come out and bat well
england are far too short right now. the price says england will only need to bat once, india will fold and the weather interruption will be minimal. even if england bat well and india are 3 down at the close with a moderately optimistic forecast for sunday you're looking at 1.15 to 1.2 on england. on the other hand, a stinker of a forecast for sunday, india skittle england cheaply and build a solid 2nd innings and you've got about 1.3 on the draw. |

That match only lasted 10 balls though and they restarted on the same island a few days later ( Antigua I think ). correct. it was at north sound where the surface was essentially a sand pit and the bowlers were sinking during their run ups. they moved the test to the fabulous and iconic ARG (where lara broke the record twice) which quite frankly should never have been replaced. it was a fabulous venue smack bang in the centre of St John's, replaced by a plastic monstrosity in the middle of nowhere. It was also overlooked by a prison as well. Probably worse places to do time. |
