I'm thinking Autumn wil be when relaxations start ... whether that then precipitates another plethora of victims who knows?
Perhaps we are closer to a vaccination programme than we think ... all countries are throwing resources at the problem so I think there will be a solution of sorts this year ... although the problem might then be if the coronavirus mutates or genetically modifies itself and becomes even more virulent ... then we do have a massive concern |

hows that vaccination coming on for the common cold ????

There certainly appears to be no exit strategy from this measure.

Yes, 3 weeks won't make any difference. I think they know that it'll be another 3 and another 3 and so on, they just don't want to say 12 to 18 months because people won't take it in. Our best hope is the testing kits might be widely available long before any vaccine, which could make things easier for people to live normally. Gawd forbid the virus mutates, or more of them come along.

Great opportunity to fix all the potholes.

if any of this is the case and the economy has been stomped all over with bit boots so that all of us old uns are left will be on the parish ahahahahahha

des pond is correct, was going to say the same thing, saying 3 weeks eases us in the reality that will hit.
If this does indeed rumble on into the summer, that is where you will say things change especially in much warmer countries than ours, imagine a heatwave? and they're expecting the country to all stay at home? will send people into a frenzy. |

Takes 14 months to test, trial, or whatever, apparently. Don't know how that applies to already existing drugs that might work as Trump thinks is plausible. |
|
By:
Johnson said it's being done to stop the NHS getting overwhelmed by new cases.
He's aiming for a steady flow instead of a torrent. I don't think they've abandoned the hope of herd immunity. They just won't admit it because they'd get crucified over the numbers of deaths that might occur before we get there. |
|
By:
Googling 'lockdown/exit strategy' and every article states a vaccine and nothing else.
So yeah this is looking like a 12-18 month job. I suppose there may be a faint hope a hot spell in May-July might defeat it, but doesn't seem much confidence in that |
|
By:
How can you exit from something you cant predict ?
|
|
By:
Without a vaccine we've only got herd immunity.
|
|
By:
Indeed.

Extreme heat and no rain would be a disaster ,with the weather in this country Fook knows ![]() |
|
By:
Trump will be the next one pushing herd immunity..already a few hints about people going back to work. It's the only option that we actually know will work, just that people can't stomach the price. Unless theres a vaccine coming soon its the only viable alternative. But rather than talk about 'herd immunity' i reckon its much better just to say 'you gonna get it and theres nowt you can do about it'

Top WHO bloke was saying today that lockdowns are a defensive strategy and the world needs to go on the attack.
He actually compared it to a football match... Said you can never win the match if you don't attack. (Or words to that affect) |

Then he started going on about TB

Ah, football! What will we do without it. They're talking about finishing the season. LMFAO. Next 2 or 3 seasons could be wiped out at this rate. And as for boxing, well big fights are hard enough to set up as it is.
Many careers are already finished for certain fighters, Although they might not know it yet. ![]() |

In fact here's the attacking bit. All about testing and tracing; pretty much neither of which we're doing in the UK.

According to Wiki this is the 7th discovered Coronavirus. 4 are mild and very similar and what we would call "common cold". The other two, SARS and MERS, were dangerous but fairly easy to track and quash. No vaccines so far for any previous Coronavirus. No effective drug treatments either. Maybe we haven't tried that hard till now though. Natural immunity no certainty if similar to the "common" cold.

1 the first year it sleeps
2 the second year it creeps 3 the third year it leaps this is a Buddha quote about the bamboo ,lets hope corona has not got the bamboo qualities |
|
By:
As others have stated, there is no vaccine for the common cold and doubt there will be one for this either. I also doubt there is any long term immunity as immunity from other versions of the corona virus is short lived so again why should this be any different?

Social Distancing = Social Responsibility = Self Preservation, if adopted by all.
Unless anyone knows better! |

The testing will get quicker and more accurate.
The test is an antibody test to see if you have had the virus and have immunity (allegedly) A lot of people will get the virus in March and April(some very mild) Once you've had it & recovered from it you will get a blue peter badge and get shuffled off back to work Testing on the cruise boat found the virus had lasted for 17 days!! If that's the case we're all going to get it by hook or by crook |
|
By:
Can it be caught twice though, Juce?
|
|
By:
3 weeks aint going to fix it.
applying the brakes to stop the NHS being overwhelmed hardly going to say 3 months straight is he?? |
|
By:
3 weeks lockdown will not fix the damage done by Covid-19. It will only minimise or marginalise it until an anti-dote is found.
|
|
By:
The only way a lockdown could still be in force by late summer is if the army are on the streets enforcing it, with the option to fire live rounds.
What could make sense is a 2 month lockdown during which ventilators are mass produced and buildings converted into hospitals for this virus. Then tell everyone not in vulnerable groups to go back to work from June 1st. |
|
By:
you can't tell folk it's a 3 month lock down.....though it will be that and more..before the 2nd outbreak begins
