Some Empires are created by countries voluntarily amalgamating, one could see the EU as this.

It is then the people of the amalgamated countries who can give an opinion, like voting for BREXITLaugh

I’m sorry e bul  if the Indians want to put their wives on the fire and burn them alive and the Africans want to put each other in the pot and eat them and we tell them they can’t and stop them , as we did
Then we are right and they are wrong no matter how much they plead that it is their ‘ culture’

I’m not sure what Charlie’s view on the matter is , he’s conflicted by his hatred and anti British outlook and can’t answer
disgraceful really

We are not trying to erase those things from history Charlie  , the Indian famine at a time when Britain was fighting the most evil of foes in Nazi gernany ..  to save both India and the civilised world
The Mau Mau uprising the most savage and merciless of foes who came in the dead of night to murder innocent men women and children
The massacre in India ( mercifully something that shocked Britain itself )after the Indian mutiny savage in its murder of innocent men women and children ...I could go

But Britain won the Second World War and saved India , and the rest of the world and brought peace and civilisation to every country in the Empire overall

Now you haven’t answered , do you think the Indians should have been allowed to continue burning alive  their wives on the fire , or the thugees allowed to continue to murder millions as they had done for centuries etc and the Africans to put each other in their ‘culture’
Or were we right to stop them , as we did

Go ahead .....

Just another area where Britain was way ahead of the game, having abolished the burning of heretics in 1677.

Or not ?

You are a loony who denies what really happened. It's about time you took the Union jack out of arse and looked at the facts not your made up fairy stories. You are the most blinkered fool by far I have ever come across.

... as a reminder of what was done to India by the British, who conquered one of the richest countries in the world (27 per cent of global GDP in 1700) and reduced it, over two centuries of loot and exploitation, to one of the poorest, most diseased and most illiterate countries on Earth by the time they left in 1947.

I bet you're so proud of that.

The British conquest of India,” Durant writes, “was the invasion and destruction of a high civilization by a trading company utterly without scruple or principle […] bribing and murdering, annexing and stealing, and beginning that career of illegal and legal plunder.” Britain profited enormously from what Durant calls the “rape of a continent,” so much so that on the eve of independence, the vast majority of Indians were living in poverty. It was, as Durant put it, “the most sordid and criminal exploitation of one nation by another in all recorded history.”

Makes you proud I suppose.

Charlie you haven’t answered , do you think the British were right to stop the Indians burning their wives on the funeral pyre , and destroying the thugee religious cult responsible for the murder of millions if Indians

It’s a quite simple question , go ahead

Because until you do your opinion is worth nothing because it is blinded by hatred and bigotry

Now let’s see , go ahead ....

His point was simple. India had enough food supplies to feed the starving - why had the government instead let them die? While Orissans perished in droves in 1866, Mr Naoroji noted that India had actually exported over 200m pounds of rice to Britain. He discovered a similar pattern of mass exportation during other famine years. "Good God," Mr Naoroji declared, "when will this end?"

It did not end anytime soon. Famines recurred in 1869 and 1874. Between 1876 and 1878, during the Madras famine, anywhere from four to five million people perished after the viceroy, Lord Lytton, adopted a hands-off approach similar to that employed in Ireland and Orissa.

By 1901, Romesh Chunder Dutt, another leading nationalist, enumerated 10 mass famines since the 1860s, setting the total death toll at a whopping 15 million. Indians were now so poor - and the government so indifferent in its response - that, he stated, "every year of drought was a year of famine."

Yeah blame it on the war.

Sati or suttee[note 1] is a largely historical Hindu funeral practice in India in which a widow sacrifices herself by sitting atop her deceased husband's funeral pyre.[2][3][4][5]

It was suicide not murder. It was probably a good idea to stop it.

Now then what about the rest of the stuff or are you not man enough to  address those things without giving a biased and obviously incorrect view?

All of that ( if true ) is not good  ( ps the distribution of food sent by Britain and America was hampered by the tensions and i cooperation between the local Muslims and Hindus ) , slavery was not good , it had been going on for centuries , we abolished it and used our military power to impose that and bring in trade and investment

Now about that question Charlie , go ahead ...

Would you like another country to invade this country Britain, and completely change our way of life.

If anyone objected they were killed.

I suspect you would not, well most people would not like it.

Even if in hindsight we may have benefitted in a few things.

This is how people of our wonderful Empire felt.

They were glad to take back control when they were offered, when we dissolved our own Empire.

Countries prefer to decide their own destinies, they don't want other countries deciding it for them.

One reason we voted to leave the EU, although the EU did not actually occupy us.

Britain disbanded it's Empire after WW11, because the USA, another country you admire lfc1971, demanded we did.

The USA felt it contradicted Human Rights.

uble, your comments won't make sense to lfc. I remember once I mentioned to him that over a million people had died in Iraq in the 2003 war and his reply was, the Iraqis should be thankful for it because this gives them a chance to rebuild like Germany and Japan.

The guy probably does drugs which is sometimes evident from the diarrhea of his posts.

I keep telling lfc he was born a hundred years too late. He's still not out of that colonial mindset, even though the capital of that colonial empire is now almost completely controlled by the colonial subjects of those times.

I've told him this too.

His response is some countries should be allowed to decide their own destiny, and some not.

I hope you can hear from him so you don't have to take my word for it. But you should have seen lfc in 2017. He and moisok almost know the Koran by heart by now, such was their hatred of the arabs and africans.
