You'd think you could see the curve.... yes...exactly what I thought too until I looked into it more.

Auguste Antoine Piccard (28 January 1884 – 24 March 1962) was a Swiss physicist, inventor and explorer,

known for his record-breaking helium filled balloon flights,

with which he studied Earth's upper atmosphere and cosmic rays,

Piccard also was the first to witness views of earth from 10 miles up, stating in a 1931 Popular Science magazine that the “It (the Earth) seemed a flat disk with upturned edge”

What are you on about.
You have provided a quote almost 90 years old & about a view from a high not much higher than commercial jets.

Shall we ignore the next 90 years of aviation, photos, satellite, space travel because of a guy trying to explain something in a language people would understand.

Nice link to the quote Mcginty- no need to look at the context.

Mex There are thousands of satellite images. of the earth.

That's true, but they are not photos,  they are composites made from many smaller photos of the earth taken by a Satellite, then stitched together and applied to the surface of a digital ball, then modified in Photoshop.

Images of the earth may seem commonplace, but there are actually very few pictures of the entire planet. The problem  is all the NASA earth-observing satellites are in low-earth or geostationary orbit, meaning none of them are far enough away to see a full hemisphere. - Robert Simmon one of the “visualizers” who “stitched together” Blue Marble II- NASA.

So were you posting garbage when you suggested "your Google " was up the blink?

You got your link of Earth @ instructions how to show they are genuine.

I see you have ignored their advice.

Hay why are you so gullible- did you really fall for that carp from Dr Dale (doctor LOL)
Don't be ashamed for your total lack of understanding of basic maths/science.

Good point Mcginty & 1931 is less than 90 years so this guy is the expert.

Let's forget all the evidence in the past 90 years.

How does a sat-hav work Mcginty? Is it magic?

NASA have published loads of photos of a spherical Earth.
I'm sorry you don't have the intelligence needed to understand that the Earth is round.

Happy now?

It's a little known fact that the modulation they use on guided missile illuminators is exactly the same as that used on dentist filling hardening lasers.

Which is why I always demand they close the curtains when I visit my dentist.

Hay

Still crying?

Sunrise/sunsets are a different times at different longitude/ latitude because the Earth is spherical & length of day changes as the spherical Earth is tilted on its axis. Generally the angle of incidence of the sun is different for different places on the Earth,

How is this explains by the uneducated?

OK - The universe:
No-one knows what shape it is, how big it is, or even if it's the only one.

As for you being so certain, you are misguided - among the many, many other things you are.

There is a theory suggesting the universe is 'flat' but it is a theory - based on measuring fluctuations in background radiation temperature from the most distant observable universe.
It has nothing, I believe, to do with the stretching of time (the 4th dimension), because that would be applying it to a 2 dimensional concept.
It also isn't about it getting flatter.

There is still the original Big Bang theory, which even now considers the universe to be spherical. Having started from a single point and expanding in all directions for 13.8 billion years (though there's no absolute certainty about this), spherical makes a lot of sense. It is only an extension of the sphere that makes for a flat theory.

If it comes to a stupid competition, lfc - believe me, you are picking the wrong opponent.
Indeed, I'd have though it would be quite difficult for you to pick anyone to compete successfully against.

If it wasn't for this I might bow to your vast knowledge of quantum physics.
Also the working classes - They who don't understand anything, is this because you're looking at them from outside, as one who doesn't/didn't work?

I understand that a large part of your existence is trolling for non-ending unreasonable arguing on here. There is no doubt you will follow this post with a dozen posts of unintelligible drivel, but seriously.... "As flat as a piece of paper" is NOT something the universe is. It's a mathematical flatness which explains a few things which are not really known.

I'd recommend this simplified explanation I just found, to you:

https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/degrees-of-freedom/httpblogsscientificamericancomdegrees-of-freedom20110725what-do-you-mean-the-universe-is-flat-part-i/

Or for anyone else who might be interested. It's simplified, but still quite difficult to get your head round.

Unless you're lfc (What a genius, what a man!!!!)

If the universe was flat it would imply there a is a limit to it in like the Z axis, which makes no sense by any current understanding.
And what would limit it? And any red shift on receding galaxies would be different depending on direction surely? Nope, doesn't make sense.

No plane has ever circumnavigated the earth NORTH-SOUTH. (and don't tell me it's too cold LMAO or dangerous)

And if they did a lot of commercial flights would be made a lot shorter.

It's about drawing a line, turning 90 degrees, 4 times.
It makes a sphere flat, because you always end up in the same place.... or something.

Basically - like nearly everything to do with space, the origins of time and space, etc. We have no idea.
Every new visit by probes to an outer planet has completely rewritten everything we knew about the solar system, so how much chance is there of a whole universe?

I'll answer that. None.

As for the flat Earth stuff.
Total Bolllocks.

Commercial flights VERY often fly over northern polar regions, because they fly by the "great circle" or the shortest distance between 2 points on a sphere - which the Earth is.
The don't need to fly over the Antarctic, because it isn't on the way to anywhere.

As for being able to - of course they are.
By:

Commercial flights going the way they do can get a boost from the jetstream, though it is shorter over the poles.

ICBMs were and probably are routed over the north pole as it's shorter. Maybe the cold war was part of a flat earth conspiracy?
