the universe is flat , as flat as a piece of paper
although it may be curled up a little at the end, like a horses saddle |
By:
But do we know the whole size of the universe? If not, how can you be so sure of its shape? At least for earth we can measure distance from one corner to the other.
By:
we know the shape because we know about time
By:
we know the shape because we know about time
By:
Please explain lfc
By:
You don't know how the end of the universe looks like but you are sure its not round?
By:
well its simple logic, we know the universe has been around for such a vast amount of time that it is almost impossible to imagine
so much time |
By:
ok...
By:
I know what the entire universe looks like, all of it I have already said
its as flat as a piece of paper |
By:
makes sense. thanks.
By:
aspro, time is the important thing, and the vast amount of time
so vast we might as well for mathematical formula consider it to tend towards infinity now this means one thing, in time everything becomes flat, it must do, everything in nature and the universe becomes flat...given enough time the universe has had enough time, almost infinite time therefore it must be flat |
By:
in time everything becomes flat, it must do, everything in nature and the universe becomes flat...given enough time
Explain this |
By:
I am here lfc; I'm trying to absorb what you are saying
By:
I don't doubt you btw
By:
well a simple explanation wuold be that in time every mountain on the earth , even Everest will become flat
By:
the important thing is time, an the almost unimaginable time that the universe has been in existence
time is the thing |
By:
So you are saying that the universe has been expanding at a great rate for a very very long time. And Everest is still. So in time it becomes flat relative to the rest of universe?
By:
no, I said Everest becomes flat, like a piece of paper that's all
By:
The universe is still expanding right? If that is so then it may not be flat at this time... perhaps?
By:
its hard to imagine when we look up that the universe is flat, but it is
By:
You aint kidding
![]() |
By:
ffs lfc.
By:
no aspro, its because it has been in existence for so long, its flat
By:
:)
By:
where did you learn all this lfc?
By:
if it was flat I would be able to see the Eiffel Tower from my back garden. I can't.
By:
We have gravity so a mountain will naturally flatten over time. Take away that gravity and it expands into pieces no?
By:
I wont explain why it might be turned up a little at the end
that's not certain anyway just as long as you understand that the universe is as flat as a piece of paper don't look up that is deceptive |
By:
I know the milky way is flat; I've seen that with my own eyes so I'm half on your wavelength
By:
impossible to be anything else, because of time,
its almost impossible to imagine |
By:
but galaxies are everywhere, up, down, you name it... you're saying that along an axis they are all lined up
By:
The universe is flat? Bollocks!
By:
its almost impossible to imagine
"almost" doesn't come into it ![]() |
By:
ok, imagine youself to be a little microscopic dot on a piece of paper..and the much smaller than that again...and then look up
that's why you don't think that the universe is flat when you look up but it must be, because its time tends towards infinity |
By:
nite nite
By:
*crushed*
By:
There IS a theory that's something like the universe is like the skin on a bubble expanding but it's more complex than how you'd imagine it so saying that can confuse things.
By:
lfc, you could clear everything up by saying why over time everything goes as flat as a piece of paper. But you've talked rest of the bollcoks without giving a reason for your own claim.
in time everything becomes flat, it must do, everything in nature and the universe becomes flat...given enough time |
By:
I've not read it for a while but doesn't Mr Hawking (deceased) not go into the shape of the universe in a brief history of time? Pretty sure he does.
By:
That's handy JC... not long downloaded added that to my collection for a later read
