Some is still theory though, at least the very advanced stuff.
I like the multiverse theory. Maybe in one I didn't c*ck up and lose a packet tonight Wink

If the Earth is a globe.

Why does the horizon always rise to eye-level no matter how high we go?

Surely that can only happen on a flat plain?

If it's flat it can't be hollow !

Just a few things.

Time is relative and not a constant

The universe isn't flat, put REALLY simply - because if it was, you wouldn't be able to see it in all directions. Which you can.

Erosion is what flattens mountains, not gravity. Tectonic activity makes new ones.

The nearest thing to flat, might be a pulsar. And even that's round!
(Its a spinning ball with a mass of about 1.5 times our sun, but is only about 15 miles in diameter, as all the distance between actual atoms is taken away due to its intense gravity).

Also, McGinty, it rises to eye level because you're looking straight ahead. But the distance you see will be further, the higher you go, because you can see more of the globe that is falling away from you.
At see level, looking straight out, you can see about 3 miles, that's all. on top of say the cliffs of Dover, you can see about 25 miles.
It's a big globe.

The higher you go, at some point the horizon should drop below eye-level.

It's a simple matter of physics.

McGinty - it doesn't. What you say makes no sense.

Seriously, this is stuff we learned as kids, how height means you can see ships further over the horizon, why they put look outs in crows nest etc ....
By:

When: 21 Apr 18 14:29
Yes be great if they'd had Nikon P900's to zoom in with back in the days of yore.

They wouldn't need a crows nest and

then they'd have realised ships don't disappear over the horizon.

The Oceans are held/pulled to a giant ball by so-called 'gravity', while the earth spins at a 1000mph without a single drop flying off into outer space.

That must be a very powerful force...

and yet a tiny butterfly can flutter around my garden quite happily with next to no effort at all.

WTF?

Crazy

gravity is proportional to mass.

it's all very well coming up with new ideas, but you should really try and understand the existing ones first.

Get a big ball ...pour water on it...

spin it...

where does the water go...all over the shop!

Studyform

There is no point reading words if you cant understand words

being able to see see in every direction does not mean that the universe is not flat
the universe could be any shape whatsoever and you would still be able to see in every direction...

including if it flat, which it is,

Wtf Mcginty

How big is your "big ball" what is its mass, how fast do you "spin it"?

How successful were you at school McGinty? Much success at maths or Science?
Why would water fly off the spherical Earth?

Even if your bonkers theory is correct , there would still be a force similar to gravity keeping everything from floating away. The tiny butterfly would still be able to fly.

Get the biggest ball you want...it all works the same.

Water doesn't bend...it finds it's own level and that's always flat.

Mcginty

Did you actually go to school? I assume you totally failed A level Maths/ Physics?

Water (& everything else with mass) is being attracted to the centre of Earth.
It is also being attracted to the moon - i.e. tides

I assume the flat earthers don't bother about gravity/ tides etc. Maybe there is a 4 hour loon-tube video to explain?

Haha not seen any of those but yes I have watched a lot of flat earth videos.

And now I don't know up from down, arthur from marthur, arse from elbow....

but it very interesting.

Good fun to have an open mind.

Lol Mcginty

Do you actually believe you have an open mind?

You believe any garbage & are lacking the intelligence to spook it is a hoax.

Why do you believe you failed your science/ Maths exams at school?

Some people say that there is no universe  just a  firmament covering the atmosphere, don't know if that would be a good thing or not. Maybe a good thing, less to worry about.

Science and maths doesn't prove gravity.

It's all gobbledy **** for the unwashed masses to swallow hook line and sinker.

Why do you think they are all arguing about string theory and loop quantum gravity.

Because they are trying to prove something that's complete bollox right from the start.
By:
lfc1971
When: 21 Apr 18 17:17
That's a fair point mcginty, I don't think they really understand gravity
Or even how aircraft fly for that matter

But that's a different thing from not being able to understand a simple sentence
that's studyforms problem

science can't prove anything. this is a fundamental feature of all science.

NASA's 2018 budget is $19.100 billion dollars, what will the public get in return for their money this year? Maybe a few new cartoon images of Mars, CGI satellites orbiting a fake CGI Earth, a new photoshopped Blue marble picture or a discovery of a brand spanking new planet 10 zillion billion lightyears away. Money well spent, Nasa are wonderful and they never lie. Yay.

Hay

NASA are not the only organisation/ country to have satellites taking photos of the spherical Earth.

Apparently GPS works better with satellites but maybe the San-nav in my car is all made up?
By:

When: 21 Apr 18 18:31
Mcginty- nobody is claiming that science & maths do prove gravity.

Only claim is that you are lacking the intelligence & knowledge to understand what gravity is.

Your school & exam record is just an indication that you are lacking intelligence & scientific knowledge- it is not proof.

Hay I understand you have trouble with the Internet hence you posting total lies about that so called Dr Dale.

I'll help you thought this.

Stage 1 - open an Internet browser.
2) navigate to your favourite search engine (I have used an obscure company called Google)
3) type in what you would like to see. In this case I tried "satellite photos of Earth"
4) click images.
At this point most people see satellite images of a "round" Plant. However some people see millions of faked images from different sources.

Try using a sat hav hay - they work by magic - no science involved & no satellites orbiting a spherical Earth.

Hay

Just follow those 4 simple steps above & you will see plenty of photos of Earth.

Or you may see something totally different.

Are you capable of doing that - if not you could sat an appropriate adult to help.

FFS even very high flying planes can see the curve of the earth.
The germans stuck a camera on V2 in ww2 and filmed the curve of the earth.
Schoolchildren have put cameras on balloons that have clearly seen the curve of the earth.

The only real conclusion we can reach from all these discussions is care in the community has failed miserably.
