Are the stats I provided above lies then, saddo?
Are we to go on your personal experience in Yorks when speaking about the uk or better to have a guide to the whole of the uk?

Personally, I have seen lots of females on building sites compared to 20 years ago never mind 5.
That's the truth btw not just point scoring. 25% by 2020 does seem a bit much if being 100% honest but certainly a growing number

on building sites and construction and engineering men will always be better suited because of the physical and intellectual demands

the same applies to flying passenger aircraft, well there are numerous such jobs

Flying passenger aircraft?  Come on, don't be silly

Hud carrying fair enough. Most jobs in construction bar labouring and brickies/huddys a woman could do as well as a man
giving the same training

well you will have to understand, flying an aircraft is fine, until something goes wrong
you have to have an analytical mind, and sometimes physical strength to save the aircraft from disaster..those are traits of the male mind and body

in the past there was an engineer on every flight, imo this should de the case even now
they are good at solving problems and improvising, again male traits

Jamesdean, what trades were the lots of women doing on these sites?

cleaners

There's definitely a growing number on the tools

I have worked on numerous building sites all over the country and have only ever seen one female 'on the tools' and she was an electrical engineer like me. Like already mentioned the women on the site I saw were cleaners (eastern European), in the sales office or the odd one in the site office.

I work with trees etc. Never will you see a woman in this kind of work and tobe honest they shouldn't come near it.

I see women gardeners who weed with trowels.

They NEVER cut hedges or erect fences etc. Rarely they mow.

Men and women are different. 'They' can force equality on women as a false dream for years to come. Guess what, it's false. Women will always choose different jobs according to their gender. And quite right too.

Freezing cold today. Horrid wind and rain. It was nasty. No wife or daughter of mine should be working in that.

Mostly joiners/carpenters and decorators with the odd plumber/heating engineer.
My other halves brother is a skills test lecturer at the local college and says the same that there's a growing number
of younger women 16-20 year olds enrolled in the classes in the CITB (CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY TRAINING BOARD)

His son is training to be a joiner and has 2 females in his college class, both employed by the local council.
4 weeks college 6 weeks on site for 2 years then 2 years on site fulltime.

Hows about letting your wife or daughter or any other woman do what job they choose, injera.

Bit ironic the thread strated off about these darts girls not getting the choice to do the job they choose
then saying they shouldn't be out in the cold working if it's their choice..

It should be a formality then for the Walk On Girls, Grid Girls, Boxing Girls to find good new jobs, given this alleged unstoppable landslide of women moving into the building game.

Agreed james. Women choose NOT to do most manual work. The attempt by aggresive feminists to turn women into men is misguided at best and stark raving mad at worst.

The liberals can push ekwality (sic) as much as they want. Aint happening. The genders differ and are
richer for it.

@jamesdean

Okay so there's a growing number enrolling in courses related to the construction industry, and good for them, but it doesn't necessarily equate to an influx of women appearing on building sites nationwide taking up the tools. As already stated by a number of posters(who have first hand experience of working on a site unlike you) there is miniscule evidence of women working on sites in the more physical roles so really am scratching my head wondering where you "have seen lots of females on building site" because it categorically is NOT the case.

He's read it somewhere, is my guess. There'll be lots of trades on here, none rushing to confirm james's version.

Lots of women worked in heavy industry during WW2, making spitfires and ammo and all that. It's what people want to choose to do that counts

A friend of our family runs a small building film, inherited from his Dad and his Grandad before him. Still going strong too. My Dad used to run their office for them for around 20 years.

I'll phone the guy in the morning, or better still drop by their offices and ask him (a) how many women are currently doing outdoor/manual work for them, and (b) get a rough idea of how many have been doing so since 2000.

The South of England show won't be parading cows this year. A spokesman (sorry spokesperson) said it was udderly unacceptable to objectify cows in such a sexist way in 2018

Come to think of it, I might be a statistic too Happy

For many years, before all the television shows let the general public into it, I suppose I was in the building game.

I used to buy run down but basically sound properties, do them up and add value and them sell at a lovely profit.  So in effect I was a Project Manager I suppose.  I hired the trades, told them what I wanted, designed the property and dealt with the local building inspector.  There were no females in the trades I hired.

Oh, happy days - I never worked for years Happy

Seriously annie I ask my missus is it that bad being a woman and had she had any negative experiences. She couldn't think of any and thinks it's al BS ! She I'd say years ago she worked in a pub and the locals would not move so she had to squeeze past them. They'd give a cheer and she'd laugh or tell em to fxxk off if they were ugly.............didn't leave her scared. I hate the direction this country is taking Sad

My partners Dad used to do it as well back in the day. Used to see the bank manager for a loan. And once he down the house up there'd be no estate agent. He used to write on the window "House for sale £4,000"
By:

That price brings back memories.

My brother bought his first property when he was due to get married, he was in his twenties.  He bought a house in Hampstead Garden Suburb in London, a really premier area, for £4000! My first  property was a studio flat, which I converted to a one bedroom flat, for £5950!  I sold it some years later for £44000!

Annie when I got married I bought a  flat for £3800 (was a new construct) and still being built as I bought) a month before the big day.
Moved in and sold it within the year for £7500. Was in '71.

Our generation were so lucky, akabula, I pity the current generation in regard to buying their own place.

I first saw my flat in an estate agents window and was amazed at the price.  Opposite the estate agents was a car showroom with cars at the same price - that wouldn't happen today normally!  It turned out that the flat had been on sale for over a year as a previous sale had fallen through and they had not changed the price, when prices had shot up.

We all know that women can't do much more than look after the family, be nurses and carers and, well, be walk on girls.

They could never be engineers, mechanics and electricians. They can forget about being welders, moulders, riveters, machine operators in hot sweaty factories. They could never build munitions, aeroplanes, ships and tanks. As for flying forget that. Working the land is far too had a graft for the delicate little souls. Firefighting and operating Ack-Ack guns far too dangerous. Surely no woman has ever pointed a rifle in anger at anyone with intent. As for spies, or even operating a radio, then they are clearly not cut out for that as they don't have the bottle or brains.

Just remind me again what they did in WW2?

complete nonsense. there were woman working in Bletchley park also, who designed the computers, who broke the enigma code
who invented the jet engine who invented and built the atomic bomb?
that's how wars are won

now after the war it was right that the men who had fought should get their jobs back,
after that, and now, women are free to apply for any job whatsoever on merit

It's alarming the way women are being pushed into jobs they're not suited to. In NSW one test for a Fireman was to lug a 90kg dummy 20 metres. So many female applicants failed that they changed the test to dragging the mannequin 30kg for 10 metres. Who the fxck weighs 30kg? If they can't do the job then so be it. Find a job doing something else.

I have no delusions of male superiority over female. I've been married 30 years. My wife can attempt to undo the lid of a jar by her own brute strength, then hitting it with a knife, then running at under a hot tap and finally bringing it to me where I loosen it without missing a second of what I'm watching on TV.

We have twice renovated houses. I may be able to undo a jar with a grip of the fingers but she is the unrelenting machine that has worked so hard I've been in awe. While I've been all 'this is sh1t'  'I'm sick of this'  'I can't do this anymore' she just motors on shaming me into getting back to work. I think she has missed her time. She should have been a settler's wife in NSW in 1904 working seven days a week clearing trees and planting crops and raising sheep and shooting dingoes and cooking dinner and telling her whining kids to SHUT UP.

We each of us have our strengths and weakness, men and women that's what's so good about it.
