If the EU banned them it just show the stupidity of that organisation.

So like in Greece etc where they have water heating solar panels on the roof that work well, or in a uk winter in a cottage with a wood back boiler and abundant hot water, they can't USE this to wash their clothes they have to use extra electricity when they could have got it hot for free.

That right there my friends (and enemies Tongue Out) is bureaucratic stupidity.

Coachbuster, " why were so many protesters concerned with accommodation in the same borough ?  wtf ?"... it's a cross between victim and 'refugee entitlement' mind-set. You and I would be counting our blessings at being alive
-------------

That's exactly how i was thinking  -  astounding , very disrespectful in fact to those who were less fortunate . Where in the 'borough' would they expect to be housed - their  residence is no more .
Atlhough my gut feeling is there will be a  flats in high rises   becoming vacant any day now - maybe they can hand one of them  over as a priority .

...

The multinationals and the carbon traders are the ones that benefit.

Stick crazy regs on the UK, push up our power bills and then go and make stuff in countries that dont have the same regs.

It makes us noncompetitive, increases old peoples heating bills and use dangerous things in cladding and fridges.

what  i was going to add is that we are all given a value  -  there will some formula dreamt up somewhere . It will always be 'money over lives' . You have to make your own odds as favourable as you can  for yourself to get by and have your wits about you .   Where fires are concerned  you can't take chances - i switch everything off at night apart from the fridge .  Years ago my  freezer caught fire and light smoke was filling the house coming from the back of the freezer  . Managed to deal with it promptly enough .You can't take chances  - switch them off if going away - turn everything off .
What i did read as well in the news  is that a neighbour at Grenfell reported seeing fire coming from the flat - obviously it was a panic situation but that kitchen door and outer fire door  should have been closed the whole time to give those coming down the stairs a better chance of escape  .  (not that it made a  great difference in the big scheme as it turned out)   but i think maybe  we all need to be more 'bear aware ' in life .
Reports also of luggage in the stairwell ( tripping hazard for trying to escape )-  what the hell was the luggage about  ?

pre cladding i would also say that high rise blocks are probably as safe a place to live as anywhere  - i'm pretty sure the stats of  fire deaths is as low in H/R flats as in standard housing .

Camberwell was partly due to cladding materials - just about all flat fires are contained in older blocks - provided they haven't been meddled with .

carbon emmisions down in UK/Europe/Aust/USA  but probably sky rocketing in China since their regulations will be lax and  manufacturing methods outdated .

Now comes a statement from the Department for Communities and Local Government: "Cladding using a composite aluminium panel with a polyethylene core would be non-compliant with current Building Regulations guidance.

"This material should not be used as cladding on buildings over 18m in height.

"We cannot comment on what type of cladding was used on the building - this will be subject to investigations."

I was going to keep out of this but have come back again after looking at current info on this and who has been involved.

Police should be kicking down doors right now and taking people in for questioning.  Start at the top with housing ministers working our way down.  Put the sh!ts up them.  Mass arrests are essential. They did it for manchester and london bridge fishing so why not now.
Even if they cannot prove guilt at least by these actions it may put the frightners on for anyone trying it on in the future.

Because we all know what is going to happen.

They have already had their heads together with the council working how to cover themselves.  Any other person is just a trouble maker as far as that council is concerned.

Records and computers should have been seized by now but is it ever going to happen and find out who and what is at fault.
fkn waste of time - years of reviews, meetings and inquiries - we all know how this will end.  Years down the line where the can will be kicked.

For starters we need a quick inquest a fair trial and then jail them.

This will fall at the contractors door, low enough denominator for a bit of revenge but letting government types off the hook. However talking of government types I know it's a bit like the Navy anything happens it's the captains fault but does anyone really think Theresa May is aware of the type of insulation used in high rise flats Crazy

Injera, if only it was incompetence, my own personal experience working in this sphere, dealing with foreign and 'home' National and Local government officials, architects, main contractors, sub contractors, allows me to tell you many palms are greased in these projects. The building industry is the most incestuous, corrupt, industry it's been my misfortune to encounter.

Favours, bribes, and criminal activity are rife, people don't count human greed wins out above all.Cry

boxing the fox

i dont know who is and who is not

these regulations are complex and written in a style that takes an expert to decode them

off topic but ,,, .

a friend had some work done on a boiler, and a minor gas leak was discovered in his house

he sought many opinions from qualied gas fitters and got several different interpretations
of how rules work re small gas leaks in the home with all of them quoting regs to make
their point. one even turned off his gas at the mains before another turned it back on.

english isnt a great language for writing laws as it is often open to be read as the reader
sees fit and not as the writer intended.

Still don't understand how it was passed by building inspectors when my local jobsworth wants me to have a two meter foundation because of a small Bay tree, going to cost an extra £500 or to put it another way a tenth of the reported savings on the sh1t cladding used on these flats Sad

I was involved with these laws, they are outdated and have been weakened by successive governments. Thanks Blair and others, Angry they are open to abuse, and lazy, incompetent, corrupt officials don't enforce them anyway. I worked with a guy who was well known in the industry who boasted about the relatively small bribe he gave the testers in Warrington, allowing him to soak plasterboard before the 'furnace test' the extra time achieved resulting in certification above reality! this was well known and believed in the industry many years ago. Revised in 87,  BS476: Part 22: 1987, dry walling is big business.

dan, individuals are hammered by 'building control' large contractors are not, we all know why. You couldn't let a room with polystyrene ceiling tiles, but you can clad a tower block in similar material, FFS.Cry

does BS stand for 'bull sh!t' then foxy??

I have a much better solution. Arrests right across, quick fair trial then lock them up.

I am trying to be helpful and think this will clear the matter up quickly.

It goes on everywhere even in the public sector, Corbyn wants to re nationalise businesses like the railway etc. I worked on the Underground when it was publicly owned. One of my jobs was a patrolman checking the track for faults. On the Bakerloo line leaving Paddington was the Paddington curve. I would knock anywhere from a hundred to a hundred and fifty keys back in. It should of been marked as serious fault but the keys just got knocked back in each night. I would report it EVERY night despite being told by my managers not too. However as it was my name on the report and it was my voice that was recorded saying it was safe for trains to run I kept reporting it. Eventually I was taken off the patrol. Now to date and I add this was over fifteen years ago a train never came off so it was a gamble with people's lives that thankfully paid off.

Big businesses in Scotland were allowed to build schools worth hundreds of millions with little/no checks from building control because they were from 'pre-approved' plans. A faulty wall collapsed luckily when no children were in the playground. It has been recommended that all public buildings since 2000 should be checked (i think) and it hasnt happened.

I just saw the news in detail and some video footage. 30 people dead after a fire started on the 4th floor of a 27 storey building at a time when almost all of the residents were sleeping. The numbers don't add up. Am i missing something here?

if you look at number of missing it is a round 100 at least
council went missing for 2 days
etc
By:

When: 17 Jun 17 17:11
I see now that there are about 100 people missing(also a low figure). People can survive under the rubble after a quake for many days but hard to see how anyone can be 'missing' and still alive after a fire in a multi-storey building. So its just a case of the govt controlling the public backlash i guess.

The more I think about this tragedy and read foxy's experience on here, the more I reckon the police should be involved.

Rydon, the company who did  alot of the Refurb should have a visit with contracts seized and all correspondence. That means freezing email accounts etc.

Then the council. Again, the police need to move in fast before things get destroyed.

Sadly there was a huge cover up re Rotherham with council offices NOT investigated. Other tragedies spring to mind where inquiries take years with litle or no teeth to do anything. See the Chilcot Inquiry...

What I would say about the protests...

After every terrorist attack we're told to keep calm, show love not hate, be united and not to blame..

After this we have had trespass on govt property, some violence, calls for rebellion, sackings and prosecutions etc.

Odd world..
