It appears to be the tried and trusted Shear steel construction type, so no it won't fall down

It was post-Ronan Point so structurally it should be sound.

I hate to say this but the news is pimping out the victims.
They've focused into a few people and are sponsoring them.
All the victims should be treated so good, but it's the few
who speak to the press that get a boost.
One guy they reported was bumped into an old folks home room,
the only one? next day he got a new flat..power of the press.
The government is reacting to the press. That's what they do
now. As soon as the press stops this story, the people in this
tragedy are Fked. Back to darkness. They shine the light for
all to see.
If the press mentions Joe Bloggs, then Joe receives donations from
the public. His mate standing beside him gets the bare minimum?
This is like celebrity Victim?

I just saw the news in detail and some video footage. 30 people dead after a fire started on the 4th floor of a 27 storey building at a time when almost all of the residents were sleeping. The numbers don't add up. Am i missing something here?

The public are being deliberately misinformed.

It must be known how many people got out of that tower  block alive.
There must be official numbers recorded of how many residents lived there.
Take one figure from the other, you have the number dead !!

Given that there's a strong likelihood  that  there would have been more people in these flats (sublets/ extended families cohabiting, ) the ' official' maths of the dead could be a lot higher.

Ian Dale from LBC on Marr, saying huge amounts were spent on upkeeping the flats, and surely you cant put the full blame on politics, when a building or fire expert advises that the materials they use on the building and safety is acceptable and fine to use.

Ooooo, the leftie bint and Derbyshire weren't having that......

benny I think you will find there is much more to it than that

for starters the politicians have been sat on warning from as long ago as 19 years

now that has only just come out this morning

they also sat on the 2008 review of the other tower block fire

fire inspections were slashed also A POLITICAL DECISION

exactly Facts - people who know more locally have been complaining about this

also where the fk is the council in all this

people who have been burnt out have no money, cards, etc etc

it APPEARS to still be chaotic?

this is an emergency but the authorities seem to treat it like some sort of carnival ?

they could have called out the army for starters - they will be well organised

the council say they have put people in hotels but not all of them have been sorted

but then this lot are unlikely to be attractive to the tory party as voters are they?

call me an old cynic

On the news Theresa May had to practically run to her car after this:

She was called a ‘coward’ and a ‘murderer’ by angry activists, who yelled ‘shame’ as she was driven away from St Clements church near the Latimer Road tragedy.

The council were meeting with the companies allegedly. Hours after the fire.  Yet there was a disaster occurring.  Lammy is right to demand all paperwork on this should be made safe.  They are desperately trying to cover their backs.
No one seems to be treating this as an emergency.

Disappointing that our government seems to be reactive rather than proactive. A headquarters for dealing with this tragedy should have been set up immediately close to the site with the Council and Government running the response. Instead, charity workers and local residents were left for days dealing with the aftermath. The Queen, Prince William and others went down there and genuinely empathised with the survivors, aid workers and emergency services but our Prime Minister gives an interview, looking like a rabbit in the headlights, saying she will make some money available. I'm not blaming the Government in any way, the Public Enquiry, hopefully, will apportion blame but it's the uncaring, shoddy way that these unfortunate people have been treated that's been disgraceful.

There will be a cover up.
What was actually required was an Inquest.

the twin towers didn't come down due to fire, everybody now knows that, so no chance Grenfell will tumble,

The culprit here is the building regulations that allowed flammable material to be used in this situation.

Blame who you like, but their let off is to simply quote building regulations and flash the inspection reports.

No one will be prosecuted over it.

concrete and steel does not burn as quick as this did

why wrap a building in plastic to make it look good and meet EU directives

why ignore the sprinkler issue which has been argued for by the Fire Services
By:

it's not an important issue - most of the block probably didn't vote for them anyway

pass the buck  and get on with enjoying our expenses fuelled careers

it will soon fade behind brexit noise and X factor hysteria

I have said for years that the whole of westminster and the civil servants need cleansing

moisok they were nailing poly on the outside of building near where I live.

The fire danger of using poly occurred to me immediately I saw it. Yet they've been doing it all over the country.

Somebody has done some clever talking to get using that stuff passed.

I've already made my comments.

Nearly 1,000 replies is a busy topic in a dying forum. Yes it's good to discuss, I just find people jump to conclusions which is wrong but hey it's Chit Chat and just opinions. 200 replies a day is just too much to trawl through.
By:

When: 18 Jun 17 11:33
there are no conclusions to jump to

Just arrest them all, take them in for questioning, give them a fair trial, then jail them.

The problem is that it starts at the very top of all of the three main parties.  19 years ago!!!

I wouldn't be so dismissive O. The more peeps discuss this the better imo, if you had trawled through just some of the contributions in the last few days on here you would not be so cynical.

Isin't it hypocritical to say, dying forum, people jumping to conclusions, when by you own admission you've not read their posts, yet come on here with your pithy comments that add nothing to the discussion.

An inquest instead of the hastily proposed 'Public Enquiry' is the most direct route to the truth, and residents would have the Lawful right to appoint expert barristers (for example) to challenge any 'whitewash' which is usually the case in the relatively unchallenged Government driven and controlled so called PUBLIC enquiry route. They are usually led by ageing (bewigged) individuals, take years, by which time the world has moved on and the impetus for change is lost, even if a decent job has been done in the enquiry.

Our recent history is littered with examples of same. This has already been posted above many times.,perhaps you could read some of it.

Does seem a case of 'oh the panels are outside the building so they won't catch fire'.

It does seem chaotic down there but I would guess 95% of people appearing on the scene are just angry neighbours or rent a mob. I hope the survivors have all been given good shelter by now.

Let's not forget many survivors will have other family members or friends they can stay with for the time being.

If and I say IF this has anything to do with the EU, that would be incredible...

Ps Boris et al digging our Corbyn for politicising this is a bit rich. The Tories made political capital out of Corbyn's tie and 'suit' last year...Cry

which EU directive was it that was all about green policies which led to cladding for insulation to save energy

The problems are many aka this is just one. From the express..EU regulations set out rules for buildings’ energy consumption with Britain signed up to the 2010 Energy Performance of Buildings Directive. Under the directive, the UK is required to report to the European Commission on progress towards national energy efficiency targets each year. Article 24 of the directive was cemented into UK law in April 2014 and a Government report says “bringing as many residential and commercial buildings as possible up to a high level of energy performance is a priority for the UK Government”.I believe this BS has allowed them all to do this and tell their share holders/voters how green they are.

The above may have played a part. Forget safety get some 'Carbon credits' FFS.

Interesting how those with an leftie agenda are absolutely desperate to blame this on "the rich folk wanting a better view" despite zero evidence of this other than local heresay but everyone is now quoting it, and not trying to complying with EU green directives, which has evidence to prove it.

Anyway this is interesting, and an actual apparent fact from a real source:
https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2017/jun/16/experts-urge-ban-on-use-of-combustible-materials-in-tower-blocks
"The Department for Communities and Local Government said: “Cladding using a composite aluminium panel with a polyethylene core would be non-compliant with current Building Regulations guidance. This material should not be used as cladding on buildings over 18m in height.”

Now, is going against guidance different to infracting a law?
I'm not a lawyer but guidance sounds like an indication of best practice not a regulation, but I may be wrong.
By:

When: 18 Jun 17 12:05
So the cladding to improve insulation is not in line with building regs and is banned in the uk according to Hammond mp.

Let's see.   But this is also buck passing because they had not dealt with the sprinkler issue for years.  Yes it is cladding that made this fire really bad but there is more.
Local inspections have been cut - there is so much more to this.
