By:

By:
ladder height and breathing equipment
you should try it I have |
By:
there is so much wrong about this incident that even the fire service is scratching its collective head
but they do not have enough of the right gear or the right gear for the height etc stable door and all that |
By:
any one know of anyone restricting budgets on this stuff???

IS, it was demonstrated that brave men fought a fire in a block that was built in the 70s with the equivalent of 5/6 storey equip of the 50s (inadequately updated). So it seems. I'm no expert, just going by the firefighters view.

moisok I'm off soon did you get my PM.
By:
no your information is not relevant in the expertise of someone who know fk all about a situation like this like the clever jibes from sonko
so shut up foxy ps have you seen them up there with this tiny jet of water pissing over a whole building in flames about a third of the way up!!? |
By:
will look foxy
cheers all the best |
By:
I accept your views.
The fire department were under the impression that this building was built with non flammable material. It did not matter whether 1 or 10k fireman turned up. |
By:
"so shut up foxy" I'm shutted and that, you dratsabA.

By:
Foxy to my knowledge there is no firefighting equipment in the world capable of fighting one of these fires.
The design is supposed to do that and I think that's where the initial investigation focus will be. |
By:
My fireman pal said there was nothing the brigade could have done. If material is THAT combustible, the fire wins...
By:
IS with respect, the last 30 hrs on here were done to death on this subject, in which I have world wide experience, unlike others on here.
By:
foxy that is too close for comfort
I am going to have to move - QUICKLY or I will be found out well up for it I am on my way up to the black country in september and was trying to see how I could swerve to mid warwickshire but your proposal is much better regards |

From earlier posts of mine.....Guys this is not about politics or political agendas. It's about Local government (whoever runs it) budget allocation and superficial projects that look like they are modernising a building and bringing it into the 21st century. Architects, contractors, applicators, etc all had a part to play, not forgetting our fire regulations, best in world ffs. The fact that this product has caused the same problems around the world over for quite a few years now seems generally lost on our dreadful media............
Give me a few moments saddo, I type slowly, in my 50 working years this is one area I was involved with. We provided fire protection from 1/2 hour to 4 hrs depending on thickness of application, (cementitious/vermiculite spray) or particle board thickness. We stopped competing against cheaper ACM cassette systems, such as the thick polystyrene or mineral core metal encased (sometimes open ended) products because Architects, (their clients) local authorities, building contractors etc nearly always went for the cheapest solution. It's like the old 'fur coat no knickers' vanity expression, yes the outward appearance is great (or as good as more expensive systems), but something is compromised to achieve the effect. On the face of it this was at best a vanity project, at worst a vanity/backhander decision. The building industry is the most incestuous/corrupt industry I have ever witnessed, simply because even the smallest project is worth millions, and people are greedy!. Our fire regulations, ARE NOT THE BEST IN THE WORLD, in some cases they are woeful. I wont bother citing BS 476 parts 5 now obsolete) 6 and 7, class O (Spread of flame) and 1. deflection , K values etc, because this project was not a building envelope with fire resistant thermal, and acoustic properties, more like sticking plasters in a nice colour. There are many other ways that this building could have been made safer, but it would not have looked as good or even have any outside visibility. |

Just seen the Queen on the news. People who want justice should address their conerns to her. At least she cares and is not a coward!

Amen to that, I'm offski guys GN and GL.![]() |

There is talk of firefighters going in without water - is this true??
By:
Yes contact the Queen, she isn't at all stuck up.
She'll probably invite you all around to discuss your concerns over a cup of tea and a cucumber sandwich. |
By:
I like the old bird but if anyone thinks it was more than a PR show then i give up.
Corbyn is talking of taking houses off the rich to house them , well there,s one who has more bedrooms than she needs to start with. |

Post of the year imo from Boxingthefox.
By:
Yes a very good post boxingthefox. I raised an eyebrow when the guy from the council came on t.v. saying all his boxes were ticked, and essentially quoting the councils non culpable legal position.
In times of austerity, the council are going to look for the cheapest option - so then it's down to minimum standards and legislation - the likes of which don't often change prior to major disasters - Hillsborough, Bradford etc. |

Guys on skyscarper city have been on the cladding things for a while..
http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=1801571 Seems to happen in all countries that allow high rise Reynobond PE - polyethylene core cladding. Our fire safety regs need updating:- Reynobond PE - polyethylene core DIN 4102: class B2 (normal combustibility) EN 13501: n/a (but it would probably be class D or E if certified!) UK classification: Class 0 (!!!) Reynobond FR - fire-retardant mineral core DIN 4012: class B1 (difficult to ignite) EN 13501: B - s1, d0 (difficult to ignite, no/hardly any smoke production, no droplets) UK classification: Class 0 Reynobond A2 - non-combustible core DIN 4012: A2 (non-combustible) EN 13501: A2 - s1, d0 (non-combustible, no/hardly any smoke production, no droplets) UK classification: n/a Source: https://www.arconic.com/aap/europe/p...age_042014.pdf In UK "Class 0 is the highest performance classification for lining materials within the Building Regulations Technical Guidance Document B (Fire Safety)"... According to UK regulations, even Reynobond PE would be A-OK, while for example in Croatia only Reynobond A2 would be according to regulations. There are at least 20 or so tower blocks in London alone using Reynobond PE - polyethylene core and goodness knows how many throughout the country. I wouldn't stay in one of those, the material needs to be banned immediately. |
