1st tp, I don't know if that fire involved exterior panels or not. But there will be hundreds of small fires a year safely contained under the old rules I would think. You can't really evacuate a whole block every time that happens.

I know a few people living in blocks like these, and they would never take advice from some spotty oik working in council offices who has 'been on a course, When visiting a friend once the Chief fire officer was giving a talk on this very subject in the common area for residents we both had a listen to what he had to say. STAY IN YOUR APARTMENT!

Because of my previous experience in fire retardant systems around the world, I told him to get up to speed and stop giving this nonsensical advice, as it's only designed to slow the fire that will get you eventually if it's near your floor, so it may save a few lives at the expense of others. those above have little chance and the fire you delay is more likely to help anyone below you, your floor being their ceiling!, but if those below can get out they should anyway and not stay put. These 'experts' won't be told.

They quote useless fire regs and drills, in a perfect world that would be great wouldn't it. FFS. BTW when I asked went was the last time the block had been checked he refused to answer, I was asked to leave.

apparently tory mps are taking a fence  - well suck it up - look at that barwell - totally blanks sky - it is the arrogance that the tory lot are showing

should he have just said its bad what has happened and we need to sort it out etc instead of marching by

at least we know he has nothing to be ashamed of

I doubt anyone will brought to book over this. As we already know the acceleraant is legal! Using a ladder on a building site could get you sent home for the day!

Who makes the rules, for whom and why!

I am convinced the wrap was put on for cosmetic reasons under cover of insulation. Fire resistent panels would have cost only £5,000 for the whole building?

Where are the Armed Police with guns?

I've just heard of anger being directed at media people. Good, they have seemed very keen to whip up displays of anger in this instance. As keen as they were to stifle any after the recent horrors.

boris attacks khan over cuts and having a pop at emergency services,
surely boris isn't that thick that he thinks there on about firemen on the ground, surely we,re on about cuts in the back office that may have reduced the checks on fire certs, time for extensive and quality checking before certs are given etc,
maybe he is thst thivck

Would a stay put policy be more likely when there is a lack of stairwells? Powers that be fearing crushing etc in a relatively minor fire would be far more likely than this type of catastrophic event?

If you go up the Edgware Road just past Maida Vale and Kilburn Park Road there are a number of low rise flats that have been boarded up. the tenants are going to be moved out of London and then refurbished. I dont know if they are going to be sold to developers but it is going on all over London.

These poor people are going to be moved out of the Borough they call home. I think they have lost enough already and should be rehoused in the same area if they want.

most don't vote tory I would guess so why would the tory lot be bothered anyway

just give it lip service and keep taking the money, the expenses and the company positions they can have after politics

one or two already sit on boards of companies involved in building and renting

BTF, to add to your comments...
I used to work in the chemicals industry and we had regular fire drills in order to train everyone to evacuate the building in an orderly fashion whenever the fire alarm sounded.
We were also instructed that when staying in a hotel, to immediately check the fire escape route so that one could react quickly should there be a fire.
It seems insane to tell people to stay put in the building when they could just walk out and rendezvous in a safe area.

It is the regs isn't it

In the UK there are no regulations requiring the use of fire-retardant material in cladding used on the exterior of tower blocks and schools. But the Fire Protection Association (FPA), an industry body, has been pushing for years for the government to make it a statutory requirement for local authorities and companies to use only fire-retardant material. Jim Glocking, technical director of the FPA, said it had “lobbied long and hard” for building regulations on the issue to be tightened, but nothing had happened.

From the guardian

interesting reading  'SHELTER'  you really couldn't make it up!!

The company also paid a dividend of £950,000 to its sole shareholder, an investment group specialising in construction companies called Xerxes Equity.

The chairman of Xerxes and its largest shareholder is the corporate grandee Tony Rice, who is a former chief executive of the telecoms multinational Cable & Wireless and is also a trustee of the housing charity Shelter.

moisok, my knowledge is a few years old, and I knew, so how many in the industry today know, it all goes back to what we were saying about whistle blowers yesterday, they will pile out of the rotten woodwork now.

I used to be very active in the party for decades.  I am only a member now and inactive.  This has made me so angry.  It is the callous disregard of life and safety of said life that is so appalling.  And blaming the tenants by this paget brown bloke.
Maybe I should become active again.  But i would have to fall in line behind Khan!!!!
