It's the way it works, if anybody was directly responsible for anything they wouldn't do the jobs.

We've seen how council officials turned a blind eye to the child abuse issue.
The same with the BBC over Savile.
The care home scandals for another.
No one is accountable on the public sector payroll.

They should call public sector workers ''the untouchables.''

Do you think this will be a game changer Dr C.

I'm not a Royalist, but the Queen has been brilliant throughout her reign. What a woman.

Yes I do boxingthefox.

I think the only thing to do about those with single stairs is to knock them down.

The cladding is a major issue as well. I don't like the idea of that at all.

Again Polotics of envy. I see people banging on about greedy landlords. I'm a landlord, the property I rent is in top condition. Before my tenant went in it was decorated top to toe, new carpets throughout. New oven and hob. Washing machine provide with a service agreement. As the girl didn't have much I left her to fairly new leather sofas, a wardrobe that cost me £900. My first tax year I was told I could write of the paint ! Now personally I wouldn't do anything different but sadly there are some landlords out there who don't do fu ck all. Usually the ones with loads of properties Sad

it will be in the interest of london landlords not to increase their costs

is it a coincidence that the 2008 review was sat on and not published?

and there would not be a conflict of interests in parliament either - would there?

however - think about who are landlords???  Dare I say more?

The government was further criticised this week when Conservative MPs threw out a Labour amendment to the housing and planning bill designed to ensure all rented accommodation is safe for people to live in.

Conservative MPs threw out a Labour amendment to the housing and planning bill designed to ensure all rented accommodation is safe for people to live in.

The legislation already exists that's why they threw it out.

As we've seen, it's enforcing it that's lacking.

If a council if found guilty of renting out dangerous properties as was the case here. Are we going to stop them from renting out properties?

Unbelievable
May gets dropped directly outside the chosen hospital that has 8 people in, 6 of which are in a coma.
Runs in and runs out.
What a specimen.

Lily Allen clearly upset and speaking out, because diffusing anger by drip feeding information is frustrating and pretty patronising, when it is without question a much higher number of dead, she said could even be 150.

"It's giving people false hope and denying them the chance to start the grieving process. I'd say it's really psychologically damaging." To smear her for caring is actually quite depressing, total respect for her.

That could very well be a factor, but if you look at the way she 'ran' the home office with a small circle of 'trusted advisers' and continued this in Government, then I have to conclude this is her modus operand, and she should be replaced asap. Clueless and out of her depth.

Im amazed May didnt opt go to the morgue instead, shes clearly s hitting it and wants to limit exposure to real people.
No cameras inside the hospital and all choreographed to limit confrontation.

Nobody would even have known she went if there wasnt a fast shutter camera outside, she was inside 45mins and by the time she left word obv got around and people started arriving, but she darted straight for the car that couldnt physically have been parked closer to the exit.

that barweell bloke was far worse than may when sky camera,s tried to get a comment of him this morning, wouldnt be surprised if he tops himself if what he knows in the report is dynamite,
if the councils are like this with public buildings imagine the regulations getting bent, avoided in the private sector housing stock especially in the big cities, even those dwellings which have safety regs they wont be covering the over occupancy ,rubbish piled up everywehere etc, firebombs waiting to go off

this staying in your flat rule till help arrives seems madness,if you can safely make the fire stairs which should be safe from fire ,what sort of loon advises people to stay put, talking about in general not just this case ,where it seems the fire stairs were no such thing
By:

When: 16 Jun 17 14:43
Standard advice from Local authorities 1st time. the reasoning is the 1/2 hour fire door will keep you safe, until the fire is dealt with, we now know how moronic that advice is.
By:
1st time poster
When: 16 Jun 17 14:50
so in effect the safety fire escapes stair are only built for 1 flat in every high rise, everyone else told to stay put except the flat where the fire starts,a chip pan goes up you phone the fire brigade on the way to the stairs but no point warning the rest of the block bec, knocking on doors because they,ve all been advised to stay put, must be the worst advice ever issued to anyone ever
By:

When: 16 Jun 17 14:51
All that advice worked well until they wrapped a wick round the outside, which rather changed the game. The advice needed changing, but that would have meant acknowledging the risk.

didn't work well in cambelwell wherever in 2009, your all in on the firebrigade getting there and sorting the fire out in 20 mins,as no one can predict the type of fire till it happens your gambling your life on the toss of a coin

woman just been on the BBC (dont know what capacity she was speaking from) but she suggested the £10million in effect was badly spent and could have included a sprinkler system and was asking the question whether there was a case of profiteering.

You know where this is going, somebody will get dug out for charging extreme amounts for nothing.

does anyone actually think anyone is going to be brought to book over this

and how can they if the regs have sort of been followed because one or two say they have

or will they catch out one person at the bottom of the chain who was told to sign off on building checks

the ones who have sat on the reports/reviews are one lot to lock up

but then how about the councils that have been warned previously

one councillor was branded a trouble maker for continuously bringing it up on behalf of her constituents
