![]() Hee hee...rumour that Kate Bush's new album is called CRAGS! |
|

That's brilliant, Vel! Crags will love that.

"Crags, Leave Me Alone"
![]() Great album title...like TAME IMPALA - LONERISM...AND...SOLITUDE IS BLISS... |
|
By:
That's a very good likeness Vel. An attractive and modern looking portrait. It will be a hard act to follow.
|

Finally got round to doing a quick KB sketch. This is a sketch of one of the photos posted by Crags on the Kate Bush thread where she is wearing a white lace top. Will do the painting in gouache.

There's a 6 minute video on Youtube, a sales pitch, really. It's for a Cuban academic painter...check out...SECRETS OF PORTRAIT PAINTING WITH CESAR SANTOS...he sure looks like an artist!
It's from the ARC RENEWAL org. who favour very conservative painters...it says, "A systematic approach to portrait painting." He breaks down the portrait as follows : 1...drawing and composition. 2...dead colouring 3...firstpainting 4...second painting This little clip is very good in itself, but the actual dvd is ridiculously expensive imo. It's on ebay at £160 for a 4 dvd set. The free 6 minute clip tells you all you need to know anyway... ![]() |

hee hee...u off to a flying start, Foinavon...MONDAY MORNING...
![]() |
|
By:
Hehe, that's me finished for the day. Five minutes work is all I can manage now.
![]() Just watched the vid. That portrait is amazingly realistic and would have taken countless hours to do. I'm always willing to learn although, as you say, his course is a bit overpriced if you know the basics already. The key is in getting the drawing correct all the rest is decoration. |
|
By:
...yeah, I'm off for some Scotch Broth. |
|
By:
You mentioned a life-size oil painting on canvas. Is that what you intend to do or is your homage to crags complete?
|
|
By:
Foinavon, baby, I got 50 other things on the go!
![]() |
|
By:
When I say LIFESIZE I mean the face. Maybe in the spring I can do an oil painting. I was saying to my brother the other day that, when I was a kid I drew Blondie, Gloria Gaynor and Agnetha from Abba but I never drew Kate Bush.

By:
Hee hee, ain't we all.
I'm going to try and finish the KB and my temple painting this week, probably another two to three hours each. Need food at the moment,,, |
|
By:
A close friend asked me to paint his grandson's portrait last week. I'm not over the moon about painting kids although it's from a photo so I don't have to suffer the presence of the little shin-kicker.

Had a bit of a splash around with some watercolour this afternoon, just the base washes, a long way to go yet. What on earth does that girl do with her hair!

That's really nice, Foinavon. I liked your earlier sketch, too

Thanks, M-D. I still have to get the cheek profile right and the top of the head isn't quite high enough. I will be putting on some opaque layers of gouache next to define the nose, eyes, light and shadow. The original photo is on page 2 of the Kate Bush thread, the last post of 29 December.
Why not have a go yourself with pastel, it's great fun. Scrub in a rough shape first then gradually adjust by brushing out and painting over. Keep it loose and free and don't worry about making a mistake. |
|
By:
I might do that, Foinavon. I now have the complete set of Conte Pastel Pencils
![]() |
|
By:
Wow, you have more than me. They are very good for drawing detail like eyelids, lashes and irises. Also for putting finishing touches to paintings.
|
|
By:
Also nice just to look at in all their colourful splendour
![]() |
|
By:
Yes, they are works of art in themselves with the lovely gold lettering. I like the smell of the wood too.
|
|
By:
I'm going to get them out to have another look at them

when painting hair - do not paint every strand. Block it in and add highlights.

I did a bit more to my crappy picture of Saint Tropez, this afternoon.
It's rubish compared to what the guys on here do but I'm enjoying doing it ![]() I'm not a natural at all this. In fact I very nearly accidentally ate my Conte pencil sharpener earlier! ![]() I can't upload pictures to my gallery on here so this is a link to photobucket....it might not work. Where is Crags when I need him? . http://s1266.photobucket.com/component/Download-File?file=%2Falbums%2Fjj521%2FMakybe_Diva%2Fimage_zpssax9h0sa.jpeg |

I've submitted it to the moderators for you Makybe_Diva. It's not rubbish, keep going. Choose a direction from which the light is coming (top left for example) and put in the shadows. They will bring it to life.

Thanks, Foinavon

I will put more shadow in. I have tried with the yellow part of the tower.
Off to bed now, night night ![]() |
