If you search RAPHAEL STUDY FOR ENTOMBMENT...you'll see quite a few gridded drawings.

Thanks, that's impressive. Presumably, he squared up the cartoon to transfer his drawing to a larger painting or MURIAL.(without ducks).
The Flashman stories are about a fictional hero embroidered over actual events such as the Crimean war, the retreat from Kabul or the Indian Mutiny and many others.
McAuslan is an anti-hero infantryman in a Scottish regiment in more recent times and is tongue in cheek. Quartered safe out here is about real life experiences in the British Army on foreign postings.

I've got THE LETTERS OF PRIVATE WHEELER EDITED BY BH LIDDELL HART...THE DIARY OF A NAPOLEONIC FOOT SOLDIER EDITED BY MARK RAEFF...THE RECOLLECTIONS OF RIFLEMAN HARRIS EDITED BY CHRISTOPHER HIBBERT...all books about the Napoleonic wars...got them for £3 the set in charity shop.

I haven't read any of those. Will make a note and check if they are on Kindle. I've read a few military autobiographies including several by blokes who signed up for the French Foreign Legion.
The fictional trilogy about the foreign Legion by PC May is also worth a read ( Beau Geste, Beau Sabreur and Beau Ideal).

Is your picture by Edward Hopper?

Foch is highly regarded in France, many thoroughfares named after him. (pronounced Fosh btw).

Used to watch Tony Hart too, Evgenny, he was very good.

I'm signing off now as the cricket in Sydney is being delayed because of rain Sad

Good night.

I have a couple of Hopper clones in my gallery Evgenny. The last one I posted was by John Everett Millais. Sophy was his sister-in-law.

Good afternoon, Velasquez! Pleased to see we are both still here. Scared

Thanks for the new drawings, seems to be a common way of transferring images. These guys were professionals on commission and with deadlines from very powerful people so not surprising that they used any available tools to make the job easier. Great drawing skill by Raphael wasn't it?
Obama looks aged and tired Zorro, that's what eight years of stress does to a man. Would prefer Michelle Devil

Evgenny,
These are tho copies of Hopper paintings. I love his work even if he was a bit oddball.
They are Sunday, Girl at a sewing machine and Chop Suey (extract).

The Chop Suey extract was a watercolour sketch with not much detail.  It would make a good exercise in pastels. I had intended to paint the whole picture but never got round to it.
Here is a link to Hopper's painting which is very colourful.

didn't anyone notice the coconut trees and the fur collar ? It was subliminal racism?
you guys don't see it any more.

I saw the palm trees Zorro and thought it was a reference to Hawaii, Obama's home state.
Why are palm trees racist? To me, they are just vegetation.

Oh let's do. I hear they are showing his "The Fall of Crags: a Tribute" this week.
It's one of his late works from his "ChitCHat period.

OH, Darling, You're so KNOWLEDGEABLE. Love

I adored the Zorrostrikes cartoons Larry, especially his "POTUS with coconuts" and for some strange reason, Foin's Flying Banana reminded me of you.

Spent about 2 hours painting that drawing on paper...I'm marooned with 6 tubes of poundland acrylics and 2 cheapo brushes...that was not enjoyable...did it while band thing and pop quiz was on bbc4...the thing is -- you are gonna get some sort of likeness with an accurate drawing...ho hum...will wait for mods...a life size oil painting on canvas would take about 8 hours.
